RELATOS REALES: MIEL CON VENENO

TRUE STORIES: HONEY WITH POISON

Ambivalence in love means both loving and hating.

Ambivalence in politics consists of using cloying affection to manipulate.

That is why I have always said that the practice of politics closely resembles romantic relationships—in its expressions, purposes, and calculations—because political and economic interests converge in both realms.

Politics is passion: whether in agreement or opposition.

In love, passion also manifests physically—with sweat—as desires and feelings stir to reach the ecstasy of orgasm, the ultimate expression of shared pleasure.

In politics, other orgasms occur—triggered by the thunder of applause—that, much like those in love, stimulate the ego, vanity, and narcissistic tendencies.

Both realms embody a duality where mutual desire is essential and mutual need is paramount; yet, they are also arenas where interests converge—interests that can only be deciphered when the shifting breeze lifts the veil, laying bare their nefarious intentions.

For the politician, engaging in politics is like making love: pure pleasure, convenience, and sweet desire.

In the politician’s fiery, ideological rhetoric, there is a supreme thrill in expressing ideas from the podium.

In politics, plots are hatched in hushed tones and secrecy to engineer a betrayal.

In love, with a whisper behind the ear, agreements and desires are consummated in bed with breathtaking voracity—until, reaching the climax, one cries out to God: «Oh, my God!»

In politics, one sometimes implores God and other times the devil; for when it comes to experience in both realms, the devil knows more because he is the devil than because he is old.

In politics, one sometimes implores God and other times the devil; for when it comes to experience in both realms, the devil knows more because he is the devil than because he is old.

Thus, the love of politics and the love of love form a paradox—and a singular metaphor—that defines them as the quintessence of ambivalence: the coexistence of two feelings toward the same person, where «yes» and «no» ultimately form an alliance of sorts.

¿Quién entiende eso?

Who can understand that?

Por eso es: miel con veneno.

That is why it is honey mixed with poison.
