WHEN DREAMS ALSO CARE FOR OUR MINDS

COLUMNISTA
There are moments in life when we stop dreaming. Not because we no longer have desires, but because exhaustion, disappointments, losses, financial struggles, responsibilities, or simply the passing of years make us believe that dreaming is a luxury no longer meant for us. And so, we begin to live in survival mode.
We get up, fulfill our obligations, work, care for others, and solve problems… yet we stop asking ourselves something essential: What do I really want for my life?
Dreams are not merely things we want to achieve; they are also a way to keep our hope alive.
UN SUEÑO ES UNA RAZÓN PARA SEGUIR
A dream is a reason to keep going.
When a person has a dream, they have something to move toward. It could be writing a book, launching a project, traveling, learning something new, mending a relationship, returning to school, helping others, stepping onto a stage, starting a new chapter, or simply regaining the peace of mind that was once lost. Not all dreams have to be huge. Sometimes, the most important dream is simply feeling good about yourself again. Because mental well-being doesn’t mean living a life without problems. It means learning to navigate difficulties without completely losing our connection to ourselves. And that is where dreams play a wonderful role: they remind us that our story isn’t over yet.
CUANDO LA MENTE SE QUEDA SIN HORIZONTE
When the Mind Is Left Without a Horizon
“No puedo.”
An exhausted mind can start to think that nothing will change. “It will always be this way.” “It’s too late now.” “I can’t.” “Why bother trying?” “That was for when I was young.” These phrases may seem small, but when repeated over a long period, they can turn into veritable mental prisons.
That is why we need to feed our minds with something more than worries. We need purpose. We need a sense of excitement. We need small projects that remind us we still have the capacity to create, learn, enjoy, and start over.
Dreaming does not eliminate problems, but it can change the way we face them.
NO DEJES MORIR AL NIÑO QUE ALGUNA VEZ SOÑÓ
Don’t let the child who once dreamed die.
We were all children once. And that child had dreams. Perhaps they wanted to be an artist, a singer, a writer, a doctor, a teacher, an astronaut, or an athlete—or simply wanted to do something extraordinary with their life.
Después llegaron las opiniones de los demás.
“Eso es imposible.”
“Eso no te dará dinero.”
“Deberías ser más realista.”
“Ya crecerás.”
Then came the opinions of others. “That’s impossible.” “That won’t make you any money.” “You should be more realistic.” “You’ll grow out of it.”
And little by little, we began to replace our dreams with the expectations of others. But there is a question worth asking: How much of what I do today stems from my own choice, and how much stems from the fear of disappointing others?
Perhaps the person who dreamed of a different life still exists within us. Perhaps it is not too late to listen to them.
SOÑAR TAMBIÉN ES CUIDARSE
Dreaming is also a form of self-care.
Taking care of our mental health isn’t just about distancing ourselves from what harms us. It is also about drawing closer to what does us good. A sincere conversation. A walk. A book. Music. Nature. Someone who listens to us. A project that excites us. A goal that challenges us. A dream that reignites the spark in our eyes.
Everything that connects us to life holds enormous value. And when we begin to reclaim our dreams, we can also begin to reclaim parts of ourselves we thought were lost.
NO CONFUNDAS EDAD CON FINAL
Don’t confuse age with the end.
Some people believe that after a certain age, they no longer have the right to make a fresh start. But life has no set age for starting over.
Some find their purpose in their twenties. Others in their forties. Others in their sixties. And some discover who they are just when they thought they had already lived through everything that mattered. It is never too late to learn. It is never too late to write. It is never too late to love. It is never too late to start something new. It is never too late to forgive oneself. It is never too late to discover a new version of ourselves. Age may change our dreams, but it need not extinguish our capacity to dream.
EL BIENESTAR COMIENZA CUANDO VOLVEMOS A MIRARNOS
Well-being begins when we look at ourselves again.
Perhaps for a long time, we have been focused on everyone else. On our children. On our partners. On our parents. On work. On obligations. On solving problems. And we have put ourselves last.
Pero también nosotros necesitamos atención.
Necesitamos preguntarnos cómo estamos.
Qué sentimos.
Qué necesitamos.
Qué nos duele.
Qué nos hace felices.
Y, sobre todo:
¿Qué sueño sigue esperando dentro de mí?
No tenemos que cumplirlo mañana.
No tenemos que tener todas las respuestas.
Podemos comenzar con un pequeño paso.
But we need attention, too. We need to ask ourselves how we are doing. What we are feeling. What we need. What hurts. What makes us happy. And, above all: What dream is still waiting inside me? We don’t have to make it happen tomorrow. We don’t have to have all the answers. We can start with a small step.
Because mental well-being often doesn’t begin when all our problems disappear. It begins when we stop abandoning ourselves.
VUELVE A SOÑAR
Dream again
Respira.
Date permiso para descansar.
Busca ayuda cuando la necesites.
Habla con alguien de confianza.
Y vuelve, poco a poco, a mirar hacia adelante.
If you are going through a difficult time right now, don’t pressure yourself to have your whole life figured out. Breathe. Give yourself permission to rest. Seek help when you need it. Talk to someone you trust. And, little by little, look ahead again. Perhaps your dream has changed. Perhaps the dream you had years ago is no longer the same. And that’s okay.
Because growing up also means learning to dream differently. The important thing is not to let the wounds of yesterday determine everything you will experience tomorrow. Your mind needs rest, but it also needs hope.
And perhaps one of the most beautiful acts of self-love is telling yourself: “I still have dreams. I still have a life. I still have something to offer. And I can still make a fresh start.”
Atrévete a vivir.
Atrévete a creer.
Atrévete a soñar.
Don’t let life find you merely surviving. Dare to live. Dare to believe. Dare to dream. Because perhaps that dream, which seems small today… might just be the beginning of your next great story.
