Tribute to New York – Capital of the World

Hoy en mi columna de Mundo Turístico empresarial, quiero rendir un homenaje a la ciudad de Nueva York, donde viví más de 15 años.

Today, in my *Mundo Turístico Empresarial* column, I would like to pay tribute to New York City, where I lived for more than 15 years.

New York, la gran manzana, la ciudad que nunca duerme, hoy me encuentro en tus lares, recordando todos mis pesares, me acogiste cual madre amorosa como lo has hecho con millones de inmigrantes, que se pierden en el tren de la vida pensando que eres una maravilla hermosos puentes, altos edificios, estructuras arquitectónicas que te hacen única y ciudad muy segura al parecer, torre de babel sin poder entender Por qué te haces querer y amar tanto.

New York—the Big Apple, the city that never sleeps—here I am in your midst, reflecting on all my sorrows; you welcomed me like a loving mother, just as you have millions of immigrants who lose themselves on the train of life, marveling at your beautiful bridges, towering skyscrapers, and architectural structures that make you unique—a city that seems so safe, yet a Tower of Babel where one cannot quite grasp why you inspire such deep affection and love.

Rio Hudson baña, corre atraviesa altanero tu ciudad, recordando a todos sus amores de ensueño en esta gran capital, miles de colores, olores, sabores, lenguas, razas, canciones te hacen tan especial para millones de corazones.

The Hudson River flows proudly through your city, recalling the dreamlike romances found in this great capital; a thousand colors, scents, flavors, languages, races, and songs make you so special to millions of hearts.

Manhattan y Times Square te hacen florecer

Bronx que estilo y calor y sabor tan sabrosón

The Bronx—what style, warmth, and such delicious flavor.

Queens no tiene comparación donde el hispano goza y vive su tradición

Queens is beyond compare—a place where the Hispanic community enjoys life and lives out its traditions.

Brooklyn con tu espectacular puente colgante y comercio en general te hace vibrar

Brooklyn—with your spectacular suspension bridge and bustling commerce, you make the pulse race.

State Island todos te aman de corazón

Staten Island—everyone loves you with all their heart.

Museos, galerías, modas, bares y restaurantes, donde el arte se admira así eres mi Nueva York una Locura atrevida, rincón histórico,cultural,religiosos,futurista moderno Capital del Mundo te dicen muchos que dicen amarte,odiarte,hasta morirían crisol de sol en todo su esplendor en un verano en el Parque Central para no olvidar, En Diciembre la ciudad se ilumina en tu quinta avenida, donde se siente el verdadero espíritu navideño en sus famosas vitrina y árbol de Rockefeller, donde olvidamos ese intenso frio al calor de sus multicolores colores del alumbrado navideño y terminar con las campanadas en Time Square para el nuevo año esperar.

Museums, galleries, fashion, bars, and restaurants where art is admired—that is my New York: a bold, wild place; a corner that is historic, cultural, religious, and futuristic; the «Capital of the World» to the many who claim to love or hate you—or would even die for you. A sun-drenched melting pot in all its summer glory at Central Park—an unforgettable experience. In December, the city lights up along Fifth Avenue; you feel the true Christmas spirit amidst the famous window displays and the Rockefeller tree, forgetting the biting cold in the warmth of the multicolored holiday lights, before finally awaiting the New Year to the sound of the chimes in Times Square.

Babilonia moderna te deje con mi corazón herido, me marche de tus lares para irme a vivir a mi Cartagena de Indias, ciudad donde nací, pero con tu imagen dibujada en mi alma de poeta, andariego enamorado vivirás por siempre en mi memoria como un buen libro leído nunca olvidado. Vivir en Nueva York que mayor ilusión, eres una ciudad de mente abierta, limpia, sucia, liberal y conservadora que con nieve, lluvia o sol eres de lo mejor. GOOD BY NEW YORK, the city never sleep canto Frank Sinatra, Nueva York la ciudad que nunca duerme que excelente descripción, pero siempre estaré despierto viviendo de tus recuerdos.

Modern Babylon, I leave you with a wounded heart; I depart your realm to go live in my Cartagena de Indias—the city of my birth—yet I carry your image etched upon my poet’s soul. As a lovestruck wanderer, you will live forever in my memory, like a great book read and never forgotten. Living in New York—what a dream come true; you are a city of open minds—clean yet dirty, liberal yet conservative—shining at your best whether in snow, rain, or sunshine. «Goodbye, New York—the city that never sleeps,» sang Frank Sinatra; what an excellent description—and I, too, shall remain forever awake, living on the memories of you.

No olvides es casi una visita obligada, viajeros del mundo visitar Nueva York, en cualquier estación no hay distinción, es una mágica, moderna ciudad que te da todo lo que quieras desear.

Don’t forget—for travelers from around the world, visiting New York is practically a must. It makes no difference which season you choose; it is a magical, modern city that offers everything you could possibly desire.
