On August 10, 2026, Colombia experienced the most intense earthquake of the 21st century. Those few seconds changed the lives of thousands of people—90,000 families—across more than a hundred municipalities and cities.

From that moment to the present, the landscape has been one of devastation—both on the land and within the hearts and souls of those who were injured, suffered the loss of property, and are grieving the deaths of grandparents, parents, siblings, children, cousins, and brothers- or sisters-in-law.

In other words, the psychology of grief manifests in its full scope. The great challenge lies in how to restart one’s life amidst a calamity—a situation where every story is unique and unrepeatable.

As the author of the book *Mil Vidas Antes de Morir* (A Thousand Lives Before Dying), experiencing an earthquake of the magnitude recorded in Colombia leaves an indelible memory.

To overcome this individual and collective impact, the starting point is prayer, faith, and a chain of solidarity. It is about «taking a breath—one that rises above mistrust, fear, and loneliness.»

Isolating oneself is not a good self-help strategy. When remembering loved ones, one should do so with gratitude and love. Every moment spent by their side stands out like a «light on the horizon.»

An earthquake reminds humanity of how fragile and fleeting life is. Recovering from an emotional event of this magnitude takes time. Professional support. A remedy born of—and nourished by—the heart.
