AGEISM: «A SERIOUS CRIME», PUNISHED BY SOCIETY AGING?

De acuerdo  al término  «Ageism o Edadismo» que acuñó el gerontólogo y psiquiatra Robert Butler en 1968 para referirse a la discriminación contra las personas mayores por alcanzar el proceso de envejecimiento, antes de entrar de lleno a la nota informativa de este artículo, quiero recordar un punto.

Cuando estuve en México (2018) observé a un grupo de personas mayores en buen estado físico, solicitando empleo en un almacén, dónde se levantan cajas pesadas. Pero un muchacho flaco casi desnutrido fue «el seleccionado» en vez de un hombre fornido porque había alcanzado los alcanzó 50 años.

También pude notar el discrimen en Colombia (2021), en Bolivia (2013) y en República Dominicana (2011 y 2012 ) en que las personas mayores pasaban por la misma situación de discriminación por edad y muchos ancianos se dedicaban a la «quincallería» o colocaban pequeños negocios  para subsistir.

A nivel global, está práctica discriminatoria contra la vejez lamentablemente no tienen fin y esta vez, se le ha visto arremeter en la compañía más grande del mundo La WWE una empresa de Lucha Libre en USA, al despedir a Carlos Cabrera de Colombia, un hombre con una voz impecable y narrador de lucha libre por haber alcanzado los 62 años y haber laborado 29 años, ya que la empresa le dio el puesto Jerry Soto.

Cabe destacar que la empresa WWE está en etapa de renovación con recortes presupuestarios desde que comenzó la pandemia eliminando talentos con altos salarios y Carlos Cabrera no sería la excepción de ostentar con un salario jugoso, ya que el caballero cuando llego a la empresa realizaba anuncios en español, laboro en radio televisión y fue productor y presentador de «New Jersey Hispano», un programa que trataba asuntos relacionados con la comunidad hispana del estado de Nueva Jersey.

Según datos de un informe de la ONU, la organización hace un llamado de urgencia a poner fin a la exclusión de ese grupo de población, debido a que afecta la salud de los envejecientes y además causa pérdidas de miles de millones de dólares cada año a las economías de los países y la discriminación alcanza a los sistemas sanitarios, sociales y legales de los países.
