EDITORIAL: «SOS» FOR THE HEALTH OF COLOMBIA

Ante las dificultades que se vienen presentando en el sector salud, desde hace varias décadas, agudizadas por la pandemia y sus picos, es mucho lo que podemos y debemos hacer desde nuestras cotidianidades; en primera instancia, darnos por enterados de que el sistema de salud nos compete a todas las personas, sin exclusión alguna; así mismo, en segunda instancia, que debemos  apostarle a la dignificación de los profesionales de  la salud; y de remate, empeñarnos en la búsqueda de la dignificación de la atención a los usuarios, a todas estas, lo venimos diciendo hace rato: usuarios somos todos.

Faced with the difficulties that have arisen in the health sector for several decades, exacerbated by the pandemic and its peaks, there is much we can and must do from our daily lives; in the first instance, we are aware that the health system is the responsibility of all people, without any exclusion; Likewise, in the second instance, that we must bet on the dignity of health professionals; And to top it all off, we strive to dignify the attention to users, to all of these, we have been saying for a long time: we are all users.A quienes les debemos un reconocimiento especial es a los profesionales de la salud, quienes en todo tiempo ofrendan los mejores años de su vida para con sus conocimientos y experticia atendernos las veinticuatro horas al día, de todos los días, sin importar que sea fin de año, Carnavales, Semana Santa, y/o demás feriados, de verdad, se merecen todo nuestro respeto, consideración y admiración.

Con mayor razón, quienes se desempeñan en las Unidades de Cuidados Intensivos de las clínicas y hospitales del país. Allí es donde más vulnerables llegamos, en esas unidades encontramos un personal de la salud con toda la disposición a atender a adultos e infantes con lo mejor de su experticia, aún contra todo tipo de dificultades y de pronósticos.

Even more so, those who work in the Intensive Care Units of the clinics and hospitals in the country. That is where we are most vulnerable, in these units we find health personnel willing to care for adults and infants with the best of their expertise, even against all kinds of difficulties and prognoses.

Los recursos, en especial los económicos, son manejados por terceros, instituciones que en su mayoría se dedican a exprimir al máximo todo cuanto les trasladan para su beneficio particular, sin importarles para nada desangrar al sistema de salud.

The resources, especially the economic ones, are managed by third parties, institutions that are mostly dedicated to squeezing out to the maximum everything that is transferred to them for their private benefit, without caring about bleeding the health system at all.

Las ías, de espaldas a la realidad, se mantienen viajando por el país, cual turistas de clase alta, hospedándose en los mejores hoteles a costas del erario público y se dan el lujo de recorrer otros países con la excusa de “hermanar esfuerzos” sin explicar el para qué, otras son convidadas de piedra y ni se hacen notar y otras se desconoce su paradero, sin que hasta la fecha hayan rendido informes sobre sus posibles intervenciones al sistema de salud.

The ías, with their backs to reality, keep traveling around the country, like high-class tourists, staying in the best hotels at the expense of the public purse and have the luxury of traveling to other countries with the excuse of «joining forces» without explain why, others are stone guests and do not make themselves noticed and others their whereabouts are unknown, without to date they have rendered reports on their possible interventions to the health system.

Hablamos de la Contraloría General de la República, la Defensoría del Pueblo, la Fiscalía General de la Nación, y sumados la Superintendencia de Salud y el Ministerio de Salud, todas estas entidades brillan por su ausencia, dejando mucho que desear. Nadie sabe ante quien acudir a quejarse, peor aún, por la vía virtual. A la final, nadie responde.

We are talking about the Office of the Comptroller General of the Republic, the Office of the Ombudsman, the Office of the Attorney General of the Nation, and added the Superintendency of Health and the Ministry of Health, all these entities are conspicuous by their absence, leaving much to be desired. Nobody knows who to go to complain to, even worse, by virtual means. In the end, no one responds.

Las colas son inmensas en las salas de recepción de hospitales y clínicas, las citas, así sea para asuntos de emergencia son programadas para fechas posteriores, lo único que atinan a decir en esas dependencias es: “espere que está agendada su cita”, lo único es que no dicen para cuándo.

The queues are immense in the reception rooms of hospitals and clinics, appointments, even for emergency matters, are scheduled for later dates, the only thing they can say in those dependencies is: «wait for your appointment to be scheduled». The only thing is that they do not say when.

Finalmente, los hospitales del país han hecho varios llamados al gobierno nacional, por el no pago de las EPS a los servicios prestados durante meses y años, para que tome cartas en el asunto, sin que hasta la fecha hayan obtenido respuesta. Pareciera que la consigna fuera el cierre definitivo de todos los hospitales de Colombia y así, de una vez por todas, pasarlos al sistema de salud privado en su totalidad.

Finally, the country’s hospitals have made several calls to the national government, for the non-payment of the EPS for the services provided for months and years, to take action on the matter, without having received a response to date. It seems that the slogan is the definitive closure of all hospitals in Colombia and thus, once and for all, pass them to the private health system in its entirety.

La salud es asunto de todos, los profesionales de la salud merecen trato digno, al igual que los pacientes, y en definitiva, todos los usuarios, puesto que: USUARIOS SOMOS TODOS. Health is everyone’s business, health professionals deserve dignified treatment, as do patients, and ultimately, all users, since: USERS WE ARE ALL.SOS POR LA SALUD DE COLOMBIA.
