El amor, por lo regular, empieza por una amistad previa, por lo que ambos están muy ligados por una atracción más material que espiritual.

Love usually begins with a prior friendship, meaning the two individuals are bound by an attraction that is more material than spiritual.

Cuando lo material es lo que enamora —y eso es entendible— y no se tiene en cuenta la trascendencia de lo espiritual, la relación no perdura o puede sufrir trastornos en su desarrollo, debilitándose.

When it is the material aspect that sparks love—understandably so—and the significance of the spiritual is overlooked, the relationship fails to endure or suffers developmental setbacks, gradually weakening.

Cuando una cama se asocia a la atracción, no hay amor: solo interés.

When a bed becomes the focal point of attraction, there is no love—only self-interest.

Una banca frente a un lago o el mar, para contemplar un amanecer o un atardecer con su amiga o compañera, construye los espacios para que el amor crezca en la espiritualidad y el romanticismo se musicalice.

A bench facing a lake or the sea—sharing a sunrise or sunset with a female friend or partner—creates the space for love to grow spiritually and for romance to find its own melody.

El placer de la cama es inobjetable cuando es producto de la espiritualidad que luego se materializa. Entonces sí cumple correctamente su naturaleza y esencia.

The pleasure found in the marriage bed is beyond reproach when it stems from a spirituality that subsequently manifests in the physical realm; only then does it truly fulfill its nature and essence.

Ese amor, cuando es puro, sincero y sentido, jamás es comercial.

Such love—pure, sincere, and deeply felt—is never commercial.

La cama es el espacio para dormir, relajarse, descansar y recobrar fuerzas. También es testigo de los quebrantos de salud y el sitio final donde «confina la vida con la muerte».

The bed is a place for sleeping, relaxing, resting, and regaining one’s strength. It also bears witness to times of illness and serves as the final setting where «life meets death.»

Cuando lo espiritual predomina, el amor es eterno, con la esperanza de continuarlo en la otra vida.

When the spiritual prevails, love becomes eternal, held together by the hope of continuing it in the afterlife.

¿En alguna oportunidad me pregunté por qué razón, siendo este sentimiento el producto de la esencia de la naturaleza de Dios, se quiebra fácilmente, pasando de un sentimiento a una determinación?

Have I ever wondered why this feeling—born of the very essence of God’s nature—so easily fractures, shifting from a heartfelt emotion to a cold, calculated decision?

¿Por qué existe el desamor? ¿Será un problema de inconsistencia en la crianza? ¿O será que los golpes que le propinaron al amor hicieron que se perdieran la admiración, el afecto, la emoción y el respeto?

Why does love turn to indifference? Is it a matter of inconsistency in upbringing? Or did the blows dealt to love cause the loss of admiration, affection, excitement, and respect?

«Dios es amor», nos dice la Biblia en 1 Juan 4:8.

«God is love,» the Bible tells us in 1 John 4:8.

Sin embargo, en 1 Corintios 13, en sus versículos del 4 al 8, se nos dice cómo debe ser y cómo no debe ser el amor.

Yet, in 1 Corinthians 13:4–8, we are told what love should—and should not—be.

El primer paso equivocado al inicio del amor nos lo cuenta un breve verso que proviene de la genial sabiduría popular. Dice así:

A brief verse born of brilliant folk wisdom illustrates the first misstep at the onset of love. It goes like this:

«El amor y el interés se fueron al campo un día, mas pudo el interés que el amor que le tenía».

«Love and Self-Interest went to the countryside one day; yet Self-Interest prevailed over the love it held.»

Yo asimilo el realista verso como una cruel metáfora que tiene en su fondo algo de cínico y engañoso, en la que se busca un escenario de belleza y riqueza natural, asociado a la humildad, para conquistar el amor.

I interpret this realistic verse as a cruel metaphor—underpinned by a certain cynicism and deceit—in which a setting of natural beauty and richness, associated with humility, is used to win over love.

Allí, el ambiente es silencioso, carente del bullicio humano, pero fresco y alegre por el cantar de sus aves y el susurro del viento: un escenario que invita, pero del que se abusa.

There, the atmosphere is quiet—devoid of human clamor—yet fresh and cheerful, alive with birdsong and the whispering wind: a setting that offers an invitation, yet one that is ultimately exploited.

El enamoramiento es una especie de susurro al oído y a los anhelos, que refresca las hojas de los árboles que embellecen el paisaje.

Falling in love is like a whisper to the ear and to one’s deepest longings; it refreshes the leaves of the trees that adorn the landscape.

Están acariciadas por los suspiros que les regala la fresca brisa, que estimulan el coqueteo de sus alegres follajes.

They are caressed by the sighs of the cool breeze, which stir the playful flirtation of their vibrant foliage.

Son como pieles de colores que animan para que, al extasiarnos por la atracción, nos ceguemos. Y es en ese instante cuando la inocencia pierde el uso de razón y se entrega. Ahí surge el engaño.

They are like colorful skins that entice us, blinding us as we become intoxicated by attraction. And it is in that moment that innocence loses its reason and surrenders. That is where deception arises.

El verso es profundamente calculador, pero tristemente realista, y también tendencioso.

The verse is deeply calculating, yet sadly realistic—and also biased.

Construye un entramado perverso que finalmente daña la esencia del concepto del amor, para crear dudas sobre su naturaleza, que va ligada a la índole humana, que siempre tiene sus propias contradicciones e intereses ocultos.

It constructs a perverse web that ultimately damages the very essence of love, casting doubt on a nature inextricably linked to the human condition—a condition always fraught with its own contradictions and hidden agendas.

Cuando el amor sufre su propio cuestionamiento, que lo conduce a construir su propia disyuntiva, la duda lo desafía.

When love begins to question itself, creating its own dilemma, doubt rises to challenge it.

Se confronta la materia con lo espiritual hasta dominarla, para esclavizarla y colocarla como una pluma pegada a un árbol que, por la fuerza del viento, no se marcha porque encontró su soporte en el grueso tallo, hasta que la brisa cambie de norte y termine flotando por los aires para aferrarse a las espigas de los herbazales, como en tránsito incierto, para seguir viajando hacia un lugar desconocido.

The material confronts the spiritual until it dominates and enslaves it, pinning it down like a feather stuck to a tree; held fast by the wind against the thick trunk, it remains—until the breeze shifts direction and sets it adrift, floating through the air to cling to the stalks of a meadow, caught in an uncertain transit toward some unknown destination.

Así queda el amor cuando se vuelve viajero, errante y a merced del viento.

That is the state of love when it becomes a traveler—wandering and at the mercy of the wind.

Ese amor no hace feliz a nadie.

Such love brings happiness to no one.

Es un nómada frustrado e inestable.

It is a frustrated, unstable nomad.

En ocasiones, el amor se somete a pruebas y condiciones tan difíciles que se prefiere inclinarse más hacia la riqueza de la materia, que se ve, se toca, estimula y provoca, para apartarse de lo espiritual.

At times, love is subjected to such arduous trials and conditions that one prefers to lean toward material wealth—tangible, visible, stimulating, and provocative—turning away from the spiritual.

Atrae más lo palpable y visible, y se desprecia lo que el espíritu nos regala, que no se ve, pero que sí se siente.

We are drawn to the palpable and the visible, while spurning the gifts of the spirit—things unseen, yet deeply felt.

Solo cuando se alcanza un grado de madurez con la sabiduría del tiempo, nos convencemos de que la materia se deprime, se arruga, se vuelve minúscula, y es cuando el espíritu aflora majestuoso para darnos salud mental, vida y belleza, que no se ve, pero que emana a nuestro alrededor como el aura o energía luminosa que nos hace atractivos y dignos.

Only when we attain maturity through the wisdom of time do we realize that the material realm withers, wrinkles, and shrinks into insignificance. It is then that the spirit emerges majestically, bestowing mental health, life, and a beauty that—though invisible—radiates around us like an aura or luminous energy, rendering us attractive and dignified.
