Hay mujeres que llegan para cambiar el mundo. Y hay mujeres que, sin saberlo, cambian el mundo de una sola persona. Después descubres que, en realidad, también cambiaron el de muchas más. Así es Betty Peláez.

Every so often, someone appears whose presence transforms the places they inhabit—not because they raise their voice or seek the spotlight, but because they possess that rare ability to make those around them feel better. There are women who arrive to change the world. And there are women who, without even realizing it, change the world of a single person. Later, you discover that they actually changed the worlds of many others, too. That is who Betty Peláez is.

Hay mujeres cuya belleza cautiva una mirada. Y hay mujeres cuya nobleza conquista un corazón. Betty posee ambas virtudes.

La naturaleza le regaló una belleza que no pasa inadvertida. Nature endowed her with a beauty that does not go unnoticed. Yet, those of us privileged enough to know her understand that her greatest beauty lies not in her face, but in the serenity with which she lives, the generosity with which she gives of her time, and the quiet way she stands by those in need.

Betty ha elegido un camino diferente.

Nunca ha necesitado imponerse para ser respetada. Nunca ha necesitado deslumbrar para ser admirada. Nunca ha necesitado reclamar un lugar, porque su trabajo, su integridad y su forma de tratar a las personas han hablado siempre por ella.

She has never needed to assert herself to command respect. She has never needed to dazzle to be admired. She has never needed to stake a claim to her place, because her work, her integrity, and the way she treats people have always spoken for her.

Hay personas que ofrecen su tiempo, pero, cuando les sobra….o lo que es más triste cuando le interesa

There are people who offer their time, but only when they have some to spare… or, more sadly, when it suits their interests.

Betty lo ofrece incluso cuando no lo tiene.

Betty offers hers even when she doesn’t have any to give.

Hay personas que ayudan esperando reconocimiento. Ella ayuda porque forma parte de su manera de entender la vida.

There are people who help while expecting recognition. She helps because it is part of how she views life.

Y esa diferencia lo cambia todo.

And that difference changes everything.

He conocido personas brillantes. He conocido grandes profesionales. He conocido líderes admirables.

I have known brilliant people. I have known great professionals. I have known admirable leaders.

Pero muy pocas veces he encontrado a alguien cuya primera reacción, cuando sabe que alguien la necesita, sea simplemente decir:

But very rarely have I met someone whose first reaction, upon learning that someone needs her, is simply to say:

«Cuenta conmigo.»

«Count on me.»

Sin cálculos. Sin condiciones. Sin esperar nada a cambio.

No calculations. No conditions. Expecting nothing in return.

Ese es el lenguaje de las personas verdaderamente grandes.

That is the language of truly great people.

En un mundo donde la competencia muchas veces reemplaza a la solidaridad, Betty demuestra que todavía es posible alegrarse sinceramente por los logros ajenos.

In a world where competition often replaces solidarity, Betty shows that it is still possible to sincerely rejoice in the achievements of others.

Donde algunos cultivan el resentimiento, ella cultiva la reconciliación.

Where some cultivate resentment, she cultivates reconciliation.

Donde otros responden con dureza, ella responde con serenidad.

Where others respond with harshness, she responds with serenity.

Y quizá esa sea una de las razones por las que transmite tanta paz.

And perhaps that is one of the reasons why she radiates such peace.

Porque la paz no es un discurso. Es una forma de vivir. Se construye en los pequeños gestos. En la palabra oportuna. En la mano tendida. En la capacidad de escuchar antes de juzgar. En la decisión de tender puentes donde otros levantan muros.

Because peace is not a speech. It is a way of life. It is built through small gestures: the timely word, the outstretched hand, the willingness to listen before judging, the decision to build bridges where others erect walls.

La fortaleza de Betty nunca ha necesitado hacer ruido. Está en la firmeza con la que sostiene sus principios. En la valentía para afrontar los desafíos. En la capacidad de mantenerse fiel a sí misma incluso cuando el camino no es fácil.

Betty’s strength has never needed to make noise. It lies in the steadfastness with which she holds to her principles. In the courage to face challenges. In the ability to remain true to herself, even when the path is not easy.

Porque ser valiente no significa no sentir miedo. Significa no permitir que el miedo decida por nosotros.

Y esa es una lección que Betty ha enseñado y me ha enseñado con el ejemplo.

No se buscaba reconocer únicamente a una directora. Ni solamente a una comunicadora….

Tu mayor legado serán las personas que un día se sintieron más fuertes porque tú estuviste a su lado. Serán los proyectos que ayudaste a levantar. Las manos que sostuviste cuando nadie más las veía. Las palabras de esperanza que ofreciste cuando otros callaban. Las sonrisas que provocaste sin buscar crédito alguno.

Your greatest legacy will be the people who once felt stronger because you were by their side. It will be the projects you helped build. The hands you held when no one else saw them. The words of hope you offered when others remained silent. The smiles you inspired without seeking any credit.

Gracias por recordarnos que la verdadera grandeza nunca necesita hacer ruido. Gracias por demostrar que la firmeza puede caminar de la mano de la bondad.
