REFLECTION: Is happiness unattainable?

¿Por qué será que la felicidad nos parece tan evasiva?

Why is it that happiness seems so elusive?

Pareciese que nos pasamos la vida persiguiendo la felicidad y que esta fuese como un ideal quimérico que por más que apresuremos el paso no lograrnos alcanzarle.

It seems that we spend our lives pursuing happiness and that this is like a chimerical ideal that no matter how much we speed up the pace, we cannot reach it.

Será quizá que hemos perdido el enfoque correcto sobre la felicidad y que inmersos en el afán de centrar nuestras ilusiones y expectativas en el concepto de que ella depende de otros, de tal o cual cosa, tal logro académico o ascenso económico, de esa persona a quien hemos idealizado, nos hemos olvidado de que nuestra felicidad no depende de nadie y menos del dinero o las posesiones, aunque es innegable estos nos otorgan muchísimos y necesarios beneficios para una calidad de vida mejor, y aunque definitivamente existen personas muy especiales que nos aportan momentos maravillosos, inolvidables y especiales con quienes conecta el alma llenando e iluminando nuestro ser con destellos hermosos de felicidad, el hecho de compartir la vida con otros NO nos garantiza la felicidad plena ni eterna.

It may be that we have lost the correct focus on happiness and that immersed in the desire to center our illusions and expectations on the concept that it depends on others, on this or that thing, such academic achievement or economic promotion, from that person to Who we have idealized, we have forgotten that our happiness does not depend on anyone and less on money or possessions, although it is undeniable these give us many and necessary benefits for a better quality of life, and although there are definitely very special people who give us wonderful, unforgettable and special moments with whom the soul connects, filling and illuminating our being with beautiful flashes of happiness, the fact of sharing life with others does NOT guarantee us full or eternal happiness.

Podría decirse que la felicidad es subjetiva, independiente e insurgente; No es permanente, constante ni eterna, por lo que no debemos atar nuestra felicidad a las cosas, las personas o las circunstancias, tampoco obsesionarnos en perseguirla y atraparla cómo a una mariposa fugaz. It could be said that happiness is subjective, independent and insurgent; It is not permanent, constant or eternal, so we must not tie our happiness to things, people or circumstances, nor obsess over chasing it and catching it like a fleeting butterfly.

Debemos disfrutar de ella cada vez que su brillo roce nuestro espíritu, nuestro pensamiento, nuestro ser; En cada gesto de amor, en la dulzura de un beso, una sonrisa o un detalle especial inspirado en el alma hacia otro ser. En la alegría que nos trae la aurora, la lluvia, el ámbar policromático de un ocaso o una noche estrellada, en los pequeños y grandes regalos que nos obsequia el universo y la vida. La felicidad nos encuentra cuando obramos correctamente, cuando somos conscientes de nuestra humanidad y existencia, cuando ayudamos a otros, cuando ponemos límites y no permitimos que otros nos dañen, cuando no herimos… más bien nos alejamos de los seres nocivos que n aportan nada positivo a nuestro exitir.

We must enjoy it every time its brightness touches our spirit, our thought, our being; In each gesture of love, in the sweetness of a kiss, a smile or a special detail inspired by the soul towards another being. In the joy that the dawn brings us, the rain, the polychromatic amber of a sunset or a starry night, in the small and great gifts that the universe and life give us. Happiness finds us when we act correctly, when we are aware of our humanity and existence, when we help others, when we set limits and do not allow others to harm us, when we do not hurt … rather we move away from harmful beings that do not contribute nothing positive to our success.
