SOTO EN LA POESÍA

Sensitive and restless, Miguel Soto grew up with a strong inclination for literature and particularly for poetry, which led him to write some texts on his own. He has trained in different specialties, and as expected, he fully resumed poetry in 2014, since then he has written three works, the most recent «La Dama Inconclusa» (The Unfinished Lady).

Sensible e inquieto, Miguel Soto creció con una fuerte inclinación a la literatura y particularmente a la poesía, que le llevaron a escribir de forma autodidacta algunos textos. Se ha formado en distintas especialidades, y como era de esperarse, retomó la poesía de lleno en 2014, desde entonces ha escrito tres obras, la más reciente La dama inconclusa.

Our guest poet was born in Múzquiz, Coahuila, and currently lives in the State of Mexico. Although he graduated as a Bachelor of Education, he was also trained as a Biologist Parasitologist Chemist, he completed a PhD in Human Development at the IEXPRO University, a Specialty in Psychoanalysis at UNIFREUD Guadalajara, in addition to continuous diplomas and workshops in different areas, which make him a tireless seeker and multifaceted professional, lover of photography and motorcycle travel.

Nuestro poeta invitado nació en Múzquiz, Coahuila, y actualmente radica en el Estado de México. Si bien se tituló como Licenciado en Educación, se formó también como Químico Biólogo Parasitólogo, realizó un Doctorado en Desarrollo Humano en la Universidad IEXPRO, Especialidad en psicoanálisis en UNIFREUD Guadalajara, además de continuos diplomados y talleres en distintas áreas, que lo convierten en un buscador incansable y polifacético profesional, amante de la fotografía y los viajes en motocicleta.

Honest and friendly, Soto shares that poetry is what he likes the most and it has come naturally to him.

“My instinct returns me to poetry, they are one of the first cries of humanity, looking at the universe, nature, everything that exists, cries articulated as songs to make ourselves known among nature. In writing we display everything we bring, feelings of experiences”.

“Mi instinto me regresa a la poesía, son de los primeros gritos de la humanidad, mirar el universo, la naturaleza, todo lo que existe, gritos articulados como cantos para darnos a conocer entre la naturaleza. En la escritura nosotros desplegamos todo lo que traemos, sentimientos de experiencias”.

“In high school I started writing when I read Pablo Neruda, Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer, among other authors. I took poetry books from the library, I think that each one looks for their space, their way, and I wrote something when I was very young”.

“En la secundaria comencé a escribir cuando leí a Pablo Neruda, Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer, entre otros autores. De la biblioteca me llevaba libros de poesía, pienso que cada uno busca su espacio, su camino, y yo escribí algo cuando era muy joven”.

“Poetry has accompanied me ever since, it is a discharge of emotions, it has us wanting to be different at the same time as not feeling how things feel, an escape from the real world. Perhaps I would have dedicated myself to writing in university, Soto comments by way of reflection. I like how Jaime Sabines wrote, I felt like a close relative when he died».

“La poesía me ha acompañado desde entonces, es una descarga de emociones, nos tiene queriendo ser diferente a la vez de no sentir como se sienten las cosas, una escapatoria al mundo real. Tal vez me hubiera dedicado a escribir en la universidad, comenta Soto a manera de reflexión. Me gusta como escribía Jaime Sabines, lo sentí como un pariente cercano cuando murió”. 

“Soto comments that in 2014 he was interested in taking a poetry workshop with Leticia Luna at SOGEM. Encouraged by his teacher, he saw the light of his first collection of poems: Poesía insolente, Cuadrilla la Langosta editorial, the proposal to publish it seemed like a good idea to him, and that is when he formally began his journey in letters. This first collection of poems was presented at the Xavier Villaurrutia Literary Creation Center (INBA) Mexico City”.

“Soto comenta que en 2014 le interesó tomar un taller de poesía con Leticia Luna en la SOGEM. Animado por su maestra, vio la luz el primer poemario: Poesía insolente, editorial Cuadrilla la Langosta, la propuesta de editarlo le pareció una buena idea, y es entonces cuando inicia formalmente su travesía en las letras. Este primer poemario fue presentado en el Centro de Creación Literaria Xavier Villaurrutia (INBA) Ciudad de México”.

Leticia Luna invited him to the «Ramón López Velarde» International Poetry Festival (2015) where he appeared to share readings.

This exciting path led him to the Palacio de Minería International Book Fair in 2016, where he took his poems. He continued writing and in 2017 he released his second book: What we love concludes, Versodestierro editorial, which he presented at the Carlos Fuentes library in Xalapa, Veracruz in 2017. During the time he was writing it, his father died, an important person, a lighthouse in his life, for which there is a poem written in a thesis, a tribute to him.

Este apasionante camino lo llevó a la Feria Internacional del Libro del Palacio de Minería en 2016, a donde llevó sus poemas. Continuó escribiendo y en 2017 lanzó su segundo libro: Lo que amamos concluye, editorial Versodestierro, que presentó en la biblioteca Carlos Fuentes, de Xalapa, Veracruz en 2017. Durante el tiempo que lo escribía murió su padre, una persona importante, un faro en su vida, por lo que hay un poema escrito en una tesis, un homenaje a él.

«My father’s death is not the only thing I see, the last scene for many would be terrible, for me it is lucky because I was able to be there, I was the chosen one in those moments and I know that I can leave this experience to others. The human being is multifaceted. My grandfather has always been creative with everything he found, he did new things, my father also dedicated himself to drawing despite the fact that he was a surgeon, he studied Ericksonian and clinical hypnosis, he had a privileged memory”.

“La muerte de mi padre no es lo único que veo, la última escena para muchos sería terrible, para mí es afortunada porque pude estar ahí, fui el elegido en esos momentos y sé que puedo dejar a los otros esta experiencia. El ser humano es polifacético. Desde siempre mi abuelo era creativo de todo lo que encontraba, hacía cosas nuevas, mi papá se dedicó también al dibujo a pesar de que fue médico cirujano, estudio hipnosis ericksoniana y clínica, tenía una memoria privilegiada”.

He continued writing until he finished La dama inconclusida, the most recent work, which on this occasion will be set to music and can be accessed virtually by purchasing the collection of poems, contains narrative, talks about his mother, there are loose poems, comments that the writing occurred in a fluent way. “Right now I am enjoying it, feeling free, aiming for love, pain, self, psychodrama, I am not what I am, the attempt, we are adjusting to the taste of the greats and then to us. The sadness that we thought was an obstacle is gone, we are left with the essence, the value of the human being. You see the beauty in the other, from there we build poetry, the images of a bird, writing is breaking with all that, a bond of communion with other people. Poetry is liberating from oneself”.

Continuó escribiendo hasta que terminó La dama inconclusa, la más reciente obra, que en esta ocasión será musicalizada y se podrá tener acceso en forma virtual al adquirir el poemario, contiene narrativa, habla de su madre, hay poemas sueltos, comenta que la escritura ocurrió de manera fluida. “En estos momentos lo estoy disfrutando, sentirme libre, apuntar al amor, al dolor, el yo, el psicodrama, no soy lo que soy, el intento, nos vamos acomodando al gusto de los grandes y luego a nosotros. Se va la tristeza que pensamos que era un obstáculo, nos queda la esencia, el valor del ser humano. Ves la belleza en el otro, de ahí construimos poesía, las imágenes de un ave, escribir es romper con todo eso, un enlace de comunión con otras personas. La poesía es liberadora de uno mismo”.

Soto has been presented at the International Book Fair in the Zócalo of Mexico City (2016, 2017). He is currently preparing to be present in August of this year at the XIII edition of the National Reading Poetry and Short Story Marathon in Xalapa, Veracruz.

Soto se ha presentado en la Feria Internacional del Libro en el Zócalo de la Ciudad de México (2016, 2017). Actualmente se prepara para estar presente en agosto de este año a la XIII edición del Maratón Nacional de Lectura Poesía y Cuento Corto en Xalapa, Veracruz.
