Durante las últimas décadas –con vacilaciones, ambivalencias y una hipocresía nada secreta- se ha impuesto en lapolítica nacional, con el objetivo descarnado de llegar al gobierno, el recurso de las coaliciones.

Aunque parezca escolar, vale recordar la acepción única que establece el diccionario de nuestro idioma: coalición significa reunirse, juntarse para formar una unión. Y eso es lo que hacen quienes, pese a su pertenencia a una diferente idea o a un diferente partido legalmente constituido, con un perfil propio, distinto al de quien convoca, advierten que solos no alcanzarán la meta. La ambición de hacerlo, pese a todos los pesares, lleva a que la unión de los interesados en esto, junte a muchos –o no tantos, a veces- para suscribir un acuerdo que irá, ¡ah, eso es inexorable!, a formar una columna detrás del partido que, al menos por lo que transmite la cambiante realidad de las estadísticas, tiene más votos cautivos que los demás.

Las coaliciones implican reclamar apoyos pero también hacer concesiones. La tirantez creciente entre el Poder Ejecutivo y Cabildo Abierto, uno de sus aliados iniciales y más influyentes, por temas que van de lo importante a lo banal, sumada a la postura engañosamente expectante, no concesiva y por tanto peligrosa, pese a su inferioridad numérica, del Partido Colorado, colocan al gobierno -enfrentado con dureza a una oposición también coaligada sobre un alambre de equilibrista, pero que, paradójicamente, puede hacer más daño cuantos más problemas internos también tenga- en una situación compleja y muy intensa.

Coalitions involve demanding support but also making concessions. The growing tension between the Executive Branch and the Open Council, one of his initial and most influential allies, on topics that range from the important to the banal, added to the deceptively expectant, uncompromising and therefore dangerous posture, despite their numerical inferiority, from the Colorado political organization, they place the government – harshly faced with an opposition also united on a tightrope wire, but which, paradoxically, can do more damage the more internal problems it also has – in a complex and very intense situation.

Cada quien que la lea sacará sus propias conclusiones, sabiendo todos, tal vez muy en su interior, que nos acercamos al momento en que no deberá importar quién gane las próximas elecciones, sino que lleguemos a ellas con el país peleando de pie, lo más unido posible, para que no nos arrastren corrientes como las que se han llevado puestos a gobiernos muy cercanos y colocado a otros al borde mismo del colapso.  

Everyone who reads it will draw their own conclusions, everyone knowing, perhaps deep inside, that we are approaching the moment when it should not matter who wins the next election, but rather that we reach them with the country fighting on its feet, as united as possible, so that currents such as those that have taken positions from very close governments and placed others on the very brink of collapse do not drag us down.
