Artificial Intelligence is in our phones, our jobs, and even our conversations. Yet, amidst so many algorithms and data processing, a vital question arises: Are we letting the machine amplify our light, or are we allowing it to dim our essence? Today, we discover how to use technology as a bridge rather than a wall.

Our goal is to analyze the impact of AI from a humanistic perspective. We want to reassure our readers that their unique value—creativity, empathy, and personal history—is irreplaceable. We seek to encourage the conscious use of digital tools so that they serve as allies in our transformation and holistic well-being.

The computer is the most remarkable tool we have ever invented, but it can never replace the spark of human intuition.

In an increasingly automated world, the fine line between technology and our essence lies in what cannot be replicated by an algorithm. The following analytical overview examines how the advance of artificial intelligence not only reshapes our daily interactions and the workplace but also challenges us to re-evaluate empathy, well-being, and the deeper meaning of our humanity.

Strategic Synthesis: The balance between efficiency and essence

Digital transformation does not seek to displace humanity, but rather to empower it. As algorithms take on the operational and interactive workload—covering more than 80% of digital environments—real value shifts toward empathy, ethics, and personal reconnection. Freeing up as much as two hours of routine work daily presents a key opportunity for well-being, conscious leadership, and unbridled creativity.

To help us explore this topic, we have a distinguished guest: Professor Juan Fernando Abarca Reyes (Mexico)—a true architect of critical thinking and a sower of social consciousness.

As an active member of the Digital Humanities Network, he is a visionary who has successfully deciphered the digital age. Through his daily work, he demonstrates that technology and algorithms do not serve to dehumanize us; rather, they are the perfect tools for spreading culture, philosophy, and art to every corner of the planet.

Furthermore, his insight and sensitivity have been captured in ink and paper. As the author of various texts on humanistic and social subjects, his writing invites us to reflect on who we are, where we are headed, and how we can build a more just and empathetic society.

How can we understand artificial intelligence not as a magical mind, but as an extension of our human capacity?

J.F.A.—I think the first step is to stop viewing it as something mysterious or as an intelligence that thinks the way we do. Artificial intelligence is a tool created by people. It has an enormous capacity to process information, find patterns, and generate responses in a very short time, but that does not mean it understands the world the way a human being does.

It still makes mistakes; it can misinterpret a situation or even present incorrect information. This reminds us that it lacks independent judgment and has no awareness of what it is saying. It operates based on the information it has learned, but it possesses no experiences, emotions, or capacity to reflect on the consequences of its responses.

That is why I like to view it as an extension of our capabilities. Just as a calculator helps us solve operations more quickly, artificial intelligence can help us organize information, conduct research, or develop ideas. However, judgment, creativity, ethics, and responsibility remain with people. That is the crucial difference. Technology can support us, but the meaning of what we do still depends on us.

Y.A.- 2. Why are intuition and emotional experience aspects that machines will struggle to attain?

J.F.A.— Because feeling is not the same as simulating an emotion. Today, artificial intelligence can recognize facial expressions, interpret the tone of a voice, or respond with phrases that seem empathetic. But behind those responses, there is no real experience.

We construct our emotions based on our lived experiences. Joy, sadness, hope, and fear hold different meanings for each person, as they are linked to our personal history, our family, our memories, and the decisions we have made throughout our lives.

That is something a machine cannot experience. It can identify patterns and learn how we tend to express certain emotions, but it does not know what it means to lose a loved one, feel pride in an achievement, or worry about the future.

This is especially important in education. A teacher does not merely look at grades; they also notice when a student is unmotivated, worried, or in need of support. That sensitivity stems from human interaction, shared experience, and time spent together. Artificial intelligence can be a very useful tool to support this process, but it can hardly replace the closeness, trust, and understanding that a person offers.

Y.A.- 3. How can teachers and parents use artificial intelligence to spark curiosity instead of dulling critical thinking?

J.F.A.—The key lies in understanding that artificial intelligence should not mark the end of learning, but rather serve as a starting point for continued learning. Today, it can explain a complex topic, suggest exercises, summarize information, or answer questions in a matter of seconds. All of this can be incredibly helpful. The problem arises when we accept every answer without analysis or allow technology to do our thinking for us.

That is why I believe both teachers and parents play a crucial role. Rather than banning artificial intelligence, they need to understand it in order to teach how to use it responsibly. Students must learn to ask questions, compare information, verify data, and recognize that an answer can always be improved.

Instead of asking only «what did the artificial intelligence answer?», it is also worth asking: «do I agree with that answer?», «what information is missing?», «how can I supplement it?», or «what can I contribute that a machine cannot?»

When used in this way, artificial intelligence ceases to be a shortcut for completing a task and becomes an opportunity to explore further, develop better ideas, and strengthen critical thinking. Ultimately, true learning lies not in obtaining quick answers, but in learning to formulate better questions.

Y.A.- 4. What is the ethical limit we must not cross when allowing technology to make decisions for us?

J.F.A.—I believe the limit arises when we stop taking personal responsibility. Artificial intelligence can help us analyze information, compare options, or facilitate decision-making, but there are situations where the final decision must always rest with the individual.

There are decisions that involve values, justice, empathy, and responsibility. These cannot be entirely delegated to a machine. If we allow technology to decide everything for us, we gradually cease to reflect, question, and accept the consequences of our actions.

There is also another risk: getting used to artificial intelligence doing everything for us. It is very convenient to ask it to write, solve problems, or make decisions, but if we stop making the effort to think, learn, or create, we end up relying on it too much.

Ethics does not consist of rejecting technology, but of using it responsibly. Artificial intelligence should help us make better decisions—never cause us to relinquish our capacity to think, choose, and act consciously.

Technology is merely a paintbrush; we remain the artists of our own story.

Y.A.- 5. Is it possible that artificial intelligence helps us become more creative, or is it simply teaching us to copy existing patterns?

J.F.A.—The answer depends largely on how each person uses this tool. Artificial intelligence can become a support for developing new ideas or, conversely, a means of constantly repeating the same things.

If we merely copy what is generated for us, our creativity is likely to become limited. We stop experimenting, making mistakes, and seeking our own solutions because everything seems to be resolved from the very start.

However, when we use it as a starting point, the possibilities change. It can help us explore different options, compare approaches, overcome a creative block, or discover ideas we might not have otherwise considered. It is then up to each individual to select, transform, and enrich those ideas with their own experience and perspective.

Creativity does not consist solely of producing something new. It also involves interpreting, assigning meaning, and expressing a personal vision. That remains a deeply human capacity. For this reason, I believe that artificial intelligence can enhance creativity, provided it does not replace the thinking process but rather propels it.

Y.A.6. In the age of recommendation algorithms, how can we prevent technology from isolating us in «bubbles» and continue connecting with what is different?

J.F.A.—Technology has the ability to know our tastes and offer us content very similar to what we already consume. This can be convenient because we quickly find what interests us, but it can also lead us to gradually stop encountering other ways of thinking. When we only listen to opinions that align with our own, we run the risk of believing that this is the only way to understand reality. Yet, personal growth actually occurs when we engage in dialogue with different people, listen to other points of view, and learn from experiences unlike our own.

Artificial intelligence can help us discover new cultures, learn other languages, understand different ways of life, or explore topics we hadn’t previously delved into. It all depends on the attitude with which we use it.

I believe it is important to always remain curious—to seek out diverse information, read authors with differing opinions, and converse with others, rather than settling solely for what the algorithm recommends. Technology should broaden our worldview, not narrow it. As long as we remain open to learning from others, artificial intelligence will serve as a tool for connecting with new ideas, rather than a barrier that traps us within our own beliefs.

Y.A.- 7. How can you use these tools to gain quality time instead of using them to work more?

J.F.A.— One of the greatest advantages of artificial intelligence is that it can save us time. It automates repetitive tasks, organizes information, and streamlines many processes that previously required hours of work.

The really important question is what we do with the time we reclaim.

If we use it solely to take on more work or responsibilities, we will likely end up just as busy as before. However, if we dedicate that time to our family, rest, learning something new, looking after our health, or simply socializing with others, then technology will truly be improving our quality of life.

We live in an era where we often confuse productivity with well-being. But working more does not always mean living better. We also need space to think, converse, read, exercise, or enjoy the company of those around us.

Artificial intelligence should help us do precisely that: free up time for the things we often neglect because there is no room for them in our daily routines. Ultimately, the true benefit of technology lies not in doing more things, but in enabling us to live with greater balance.

Do not fear the machine; fear losing the capacity to be amazed, to embrace, and to feel. Use artificial intelligence to help you create, but never let it replace who you are.

Y.A.- 8. How can we prevent the digital divide from becoming an opportunity gap for those who lack access to these tools?

J.F.A.— This is one of the great challenges we face as a society. Artificial intelligence offers enormous opportunities, but those opportunities must reach everyone, not just those with better resources or greater access to technology.

There are still many communities where access to the internet, devices, or even training remains limited. If this situation is not addressed, the gap between those who have access to these tools and those who do not could continue to widen.

That is why it is essential for schools, universities, governments, and institutions to work towards making these technologies accessible to everyone. However, simply providing computers or internet access is not enough; it is also necessary to teach people how to use these tools in a critical, responsible, and ethical manner.

Y.A.- 9. What will human beings be like in the coming decade if we learn to coexist with artificial intelligence while preserving our essence?

J.F.A.—I believe the future will not depend solely on the advancement of artificial intelligence, but rather on the decisions we make as a society regarding how we use it. Technology will continue to evolve and bring significant benefits in areas such as education, healthcare, research, science, and many other fields. It will enable us to solve problems more quickly and open up opportunities that seemed impossible just a few years ago.

At the same time, however, we will face new challenges. We must ensure that technology does not make us overly dependent, replace our personal relationships, or cause us to lose vital skills such as critical thinking, empathy, and creativity. That is why I believe the challenge lies not in competing with artificial intelligence, but in learning to coexist with it without losing what makes us human. We need people capable of thinking for themselves, acting responsibly, working in teams, creating innovative solutions, and understanding others. If we strike that balance, artificial intelligence will not be a threat, but a tool that enhances our capabilities. The future will be better not because of the existence of smarter machines, but because of people who know how to use them with good judgment, values, and a deep sense of responsibility.

Humanistic education does not seek to create minds filled with certainties, but rather spirits capable of embracing complexity with empathy and critical thinking.
