Si estás tomando medicación y vas a viajar, puedes hacerlo sin problema, pero tendrás que cumplir algunas ‘normas’, como llevarlo mejor en su embalaje original, llevar la receta médica dependiendo del país al que vayas. A menos que se padezca una enfermedad crónica y, por tanto, se esté acostumbrado a llevar pastillas en el avión u otras medicinas, suele asaltarnos las dudas de que cantidad podemos transportar, si existe alguna prohibición sobre llevar algún tipo de medicación en el avión o si es mejor facturar la medicina o meterla en el equipaje de mano.

• En la UE podrás llevar casi cualquier medicina, pero deberás llevar receta si necesitas jeringuillas o similares para evitar problemas en los controles de seguridad.
• Los medicamentos en la cabina del avión deben estar justificados por una receta médica en la que aparezca el tratamiento, las dosis, la presentación y los nombres comerciales de las medicinas. 
• Es recomendable que se lleve un informe en inglés (o en el idioma del país de destino) en que figuren los datos del médico y los antecedentes sanitarios del pasajero para poder justificar el llevar medicinas en el avión. Al igual que la receta, este informe tiene que estar sellado por el propio médico.
• Ante la duda de cómo llevar medicinas en el avión si estás necesitan ir refrigeradas la respuesta es que las aerolíneas dejan subir un pequeño embalaje isotérmico refrigerado para que no se interrumpa la cadena de frío, o sea, una pequeña neverita. Eso sí, ten en cuenta que va a contar como uno de los bultos que pueden meter en la cabina. 
• En el caso de viajar con medicinas en el avión que no necesiten recetas (o para las plantas medicinales) hay que tener cuidado. La normativa sobre los medicamentos de venta libre o con receta cambia dependiendo del país, por lo que es recomendable que el médico haga alguna nota sobre ellos. Esto es más importante si el viaje te va a llevar fuera de la UE, porque en su interior es complicado que haya problemas.
• Aunque llevar pastillas en el avión es más habitual, en ocasiones podemos vernos obligados a llevar algún jarabe u otro tipo de medicamento líquido. En ese caso, la normativa establece que estas medicinas no tienen las mismas limitaciones que el resto de los líquidos que transportemos. No obstante, no hay que olvidar los justificantes médicos mencionados anteriormente y, además, son necesarias bolsas de plástico selladas para llevar medicinas en el avión con las mismas características (transparencia) que para los otros líquidos.

Siendo los productos médicos que suelen presentar algunos problemas fuera de la UE sustancias como la codeína, los antidepresivos, los ansiolíticos y el fentanilo.
