Prudencio Aragón, hijo de una ama de llaves en casa de una familia de clase alta, apodado entre sus amigos “El Johnny” por un mechón rojizo que resaltaba en su cabello, nació el 28 de abril de 1887 en el barrio Belgrano, Buenos Aires, y fue, según Horacio Ferrer, “una de las figuras de mayor dimensión en la época inicial del tango”; primero violinista y luego pianista y compositor, llegó a ser ponderado como un ejecutante –de los “orejeros”, que no leían partituras- de gran certeza y enorme fuerza rítmica. De eso trata Circe, la ópera en tres actos que compuso a principios del siglo pasado Ruperto Chapí, con libreto de Miguel Ramos Carrión, con varios objetivos visibles.
