Y.A ¿Qué te inspiró a dedicarte al teatro y la escritura? / What inspired you to dedicate yourself to theater and writing?

Y.A ¿Cómo abordas la creación de un guion teatral? How do you approach creating a theatrical script?

La vida misma es un teatro y vivimos actuando a cada momento. Sencillamente recojo el diario vivir y lo plasmo en un papel, haciendo diálogos dinámicos y de fácil entendimiento.

Life itself is a theater, and we live acting every moment. I simply capture daily life and put it down on paper, creating dynamic and easy-to-understand dialogues.

Y.A ¿Qué elementos consideras esenciales para transmitir emociones en el escenario? What elements do you consider essential to convey emotions on stage?

El elemento principal es el actor; luego el guion teatral, la expresión corporal bien marcada, dicción, la gesticulación, la música, las luces. Las articulaciones de estos y otros elementos en el momento preciso son esenciales.

Y.A ¿Qué papel juega la poesía en su trabajo teatral o en tus cuentos? What role does poetry play in your theatrical work or in your stories?

Yo he hecho teatro desde hace treinta años atrás aproximadamente. y por ese entonces ya escribía poesía, pero, yo mismo descalificaba mi propio trabajo poético. No me gustaba el producto final. Hasta que hace dos años participé en un concurso dónde se puso a prueba mis habilidades, y mi poesía llegó a gustar. Desde ese entonces algunos cuentos los matizo con poesía como es el caso del cuento “El verde de mis recuerdos, aroma de mamá”. Y en teatro, recién estaré llenándolo de poesía, antes no lo hacía.

I’ve been doing theater for about thirty years, and by then I was already writing poetry, but I used to discredit my own poetic work. I didn’t like the final product. Until two years ago, I participated in a contest that tested my skills, and my poetry was liked. Since then, I’ve nuanced some stories with poetry, as is the case with «The Green of My Memories, the Scent of Mom.» And in theater, I’m just now infusing it with poetry; I didn’t do that before.

Y.A ¿Cómo crees que el teatro puede influir en la sociedad actual? How do you think theater can influence today’s society?

El teatro cambia vidas, te abre las puertas a un mundo nuevo, te despierta. Muestra a veces crudas realidades que no somos capaces de denunciarlas públicamente. Libera de pesos que muchas veces llevamos en la espalda. Educa. Incluye. Es terapia para algunos. Yo conocí a chicos tímidos, introvertidos, que les aterraba la idea de pisar un escenario y poco a poco dándoles papeles desde el más pequeño y simple se han ido soltando y adquiriendo liderazgo. Ahora esos chicos tímidos incapaces de socializar o desenvolverse por sí solos, son grandes profesionales, conferencistas, líderes.

Theater changes lives, opens doors to a new world, awakens you. It sometimes shows harsh realities that we’re unable to denounce publicly. It frees us from the weight we often carry on our shoulders. It educates. It includes. It’s therapy for some. I knew shy, introverted kids who were terrified of stepping on stage, and little by little, by giving them roles, even the smallest and simplest, they’ve begun to loosen up and acquire leadership. Now those shy kids, incapable of socializing or managing on their own, are great professionals, speakers, and leaders.

Y.A ¿Qué mensaje esperas transmitir a través de sus obras escritas? What message do you hope to convey through your written works?

Valores que se están perdiendo en este mundo cada vez más materialista. Casi todas mis obras teatrales guardan un mensaje. Pero te diré que no todas las obras tienen mensaje. Hay algunas obras cuyo fin es divertir y entretener.

Y.A ¿Qué consejo daría a los jóvenes que quieren dedicarse al teatro? What advice would you give to young people who want to dedicate themselves to theater?

Si te gusta hazlo. No todos los países y todas las ciudades tienen la misma realidad. Hay ciudades en donde no se puede vivir del teatro y lo hacemos porque nos gusta y porque queremos despertar y/o descubrir talentos dormidos y liderazgos.

If you like it, do it. Not all countries and cities have the same reality. There are cities where you can’t make a living from theater, and we do it because we love it and because we want to awaken and/or discover dormant talents and leaders.

Y.A ¿Cómo encuentras inspiración para escribir poesía que conecte con las emociones de los jóvenes? How do you find inspiration to write poetry that connects with the emotions of young people?

De la vida misma, de las situaciones cotidianas que le pasa a la gente común y corriente. Y no solo en la poesía, también en el cuento, trato de transportarme por las fibras de cada lector y llegar hasta su cerebro. Trato de darle sentimiento a cada párrafo y verso, vivir las letras. Si escribo un poema sobre el miedo, debo sentir que el miedo que se apodera de mí, si escribo sobre el tiempo y la senectud, debo sentir el cuerpo cansado, agotado y también transmitirlo. Tengo cuentos que han hecho reír a más de uno y también tengo cuentos que han hecho llorar sobre todo a las mujeres y niño.

From life itself, from the everyday situations that happen to ordinary people. And not just in poetry, but also in short stories, I try to transport myself through the fibers of each reader and reach their brain. I try to infuse each paragraph and verse with emotion, to live the words. If I write a poem about fear, I must feel the fear that takes hold of me; if I write about time and old age, I must feel my body tired, exhausted, and also convey that. I have stories that have made more than one person laugh, and I also have stories that have made women and children, especially, cry.

Y.A ¿Cómo el teatro puede ser una herramienta para expresar y superar los desafíos que enfrentan los jóvenes? How can theater be a tool to express and overcome the challenges young people face?

El teatro poco a poco va dando al joven seguridad en sí mismo, aumenta su autoestima. Le ayuda a expresar lo que siente y piensa, lo va preparando para ser altamente sociable. Liderar, proponer, planificar, organizar y dirigir. Le ayuda a encontrar soluciones ante los problemas que se les presente.

Un joven con creatividad, puede sentirse más seguro de sí mismo. No encuentra problemas, encuentra soluciones en su diario vivir.

Y.A ¿Qué estrategias utilizas para motivar a los jóvenes a perseguir sus sueños, incluso en circunstancias difíciles? What strategies do you use to motivate young people to pursue their dreams, even in difficult circumstances?

Hacerlos sentir importantes, como seres creados a la imagen y semejanza de Dios. Enseñarles que es bueno soñar, pero es mucho mejor alcanzar los sueños y no solo vivir soñando.

Make them feel important, like beings created in the image and likeness of God. Teach them that it’s good to dream, but it’s much better to achieve your dreams and not just live dreaming.

Y.A ¿Cómo puedes ayudar a los jóvenes a identificar y desarrollar sus talentos únicos? How can you help young people identify and develop their unique talents?
