Una novela basada en hechos reales, nos dice la contraportada de este libro, el último por ahora de Marc Levy, el autor francés más leído en el mundo, con más de cincuenta millones  de ejemplares vendidos y traducidos a más de cincuenta idiomas.

Marc Levy empezó a escribir con treinta y siete años, un libro dedicado a Louis, el hijo que esperaba, “Ojalá fuera cierto”, que ya fue un éxito.

La sinfonía de los monstruos divulga el hecho atroz del secuestro y deportación ilegal de niños ucranianos por parte de Vladimir Putin y su comisionada para los Derechos del Niño. María Lvova-Belova, ambos bajo una orden de arresto emitida por la Corte Penal Internacional, por el crimen de guerra de deportación ilegal de niños ucranianos, orden que no ha podido llevarse a efecto .

The Symphony of Monsters discloses the atrocious fact of the kidnapping and illegal deportation of Ukrainian children by Vladimir Putin and his Commissioner for Children’s Rights. María Lvova-Belova, both under an arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court, for the war crime of illegal deportation of Ukrainian children, an order that could not be carried out.

Se estima que desde la invasión de Ucrania  el número de niños ucranianos secuestrados y deportados a distintos puntos de la Federación Rusa, con el propósito de hacerlos olvidar quiénes son y transformarlos en rusitos agradecidos al Zar por haberlos salvado de “la orfandad o el abandono” es de unos 20.000.

A través de la historia, ficticia o no, de Valentyn, un niño de nueve años, superdotado, con recursos increíbles para su edad, pero que no habla, secuestrado a la salida del colegio junto a un compañero en su ciudad, Rikove, próxima a Crimea, adonde son llevados a un internado, en realidad un centro de concentración destinado a borrar la memoria de los niños. Pero Valentyn, observador excepcional y pequeño héroe encontrará la forma de escapar.

Through the story, fictional or not, of Valentyn, a nine-year-old boy, gifted, with incredible resources for his age, but who does not speak, kidnapped after school with a classmate in his city, Rikove, near to Crimea, where they are taken to a boarding school, in reality a concentration center designed to erase the children’s memories. But Valentyn, exceptional observer and little hero, will find a way to escape.

Veronika y Lilya, madre y hermana adolescente de Valentyn, no se quedan quietas. Veronika ha encontrado ayuda en un antiguo paciente suyo, Vital,  ahora miembro del Grupo 9, un grupo clandestino, heterogéneo, con miembros  de varias nacionalidades, procedencias y destrezas que trabaja para deshacer los turbios designios del Zar Putin.

Veronika and Lilya, Valentyn’s mother and teenage sister, don’t sit still. Veronika has found help in a former patient of hers, Vital, now a member of Group 9, a clandestine, heterogeneous group, with members of various nationalities, backgrounds and skills that works to undo the shady designs of Tsar Putin.

Lilya se escapa para ir a buscar a su hermano a Crimea, en condiciones precarias, amenazada por miembros de la temible Patrulla Wagner y ayudada sin que ella lo sepa por cómplices de los Nueve. Encuentra un perro que se transforma en su compañero fiel.

Lilya escapes to look for her brother in Crimea, in precarious conditions, threatened by members of the fearsome Wagner Patrol and helped without her knowledge by accomplices of the Nine. He finds a dog who becomes his faithful companion

Tras muchas peripecias, actos de valentía sin límite, peligros que pueden ser letales, ayudas que casi siempre no son lo que parecen, encuentro con personajes de todo tipo, desde los esclavos mentales del Kremlin, algunos que encuentran valor para rebelarse, amigos y enemigos, todo ello narrado con la extraordinaria fuerza literaria que otorga saber que a través de una entrañable y dramática ficción, se está contando al mundo una de las realidades más atroces que nos rodean, se llega a un final feliz, en el que Veronika y Lilya aprenden a conocerse y quererse, y verse de nuevo reunidos los tres, dejando alguna incógnita quizá de resolución a futuro.

After many adventures, acts of unlimited bravery, dangers that can be lethal, help that is almost always not what it seems, I meet characters of all kinds, from the mental slaves of the Kremlin, some who find the courage to rebel, friends and enemies , all of this narrated with the extraordinary literary force that comes from knowing that through an endearing and dramatic fiction, the world is being told one of the most atrocious realities that surround us, a happy ending is reached, in which Veronika and Lilya They learn to know and love each other, and see themselves reunited again, the three of them perhaps leaving some unknowns regarding a future resolution.

El Grupo 9 podría ser real y aparecer camuflado con nombres de ficción. Ya han aparecido en otras novelas basadas en hechos reales. Si no son reales habría que inventarlos. Ellos, en el libro que nos ocupa,  son Maya, que reside en París, Janice en Tel Aviv, los gemelos Vital y Malik en Ucrania, hackers formidables, Cordelia y Diego que viven respectivamente en Londres y Madrid,  Ekaterina en Oslo, Mateo en Roma y Noa, agente secreta de Israel.

Group 9 could be real and appear camouflaged with fictional names. They have already appeared in other novels based on real events. If they are not real, they would have to be invented. They, in the book in question, are Maya, who lives in Paris, Janice in Tel Aviv, the twins Vital and Malik in Ukraine, formidable hackers, Cordelia and Diego who live respectively in London and Madrid, Ekaterina in Oslo, Mateo in Rome and Noa, Israel’s secret agent.

De lo que no cabe duda es de que existen grupos reales que trabajan en ayuda de víctimas de ese régimen cruel, despiadado, en primer lugar con sus disidentes internos, de los que conocemos sus asesinatos. Y por supuesto en ayuda de los niños ucranianos secuestrados, hecho por desgracia muy real.

What there is no doubt is that there are real groups that work to help victims of this cruel, ruthless regime, first of all with its internal dissidents, of whom we know of their murders. And of course in aid of the kidnapped Ukrainian children, a very real fact unfortunately.

La Sinfonía de los monstruos es la tercera novela que leo, basada en hechos reales que conciernen  directamente al régimen de Putin.  La primera fue El secreto de las golondrinas, de autor anónimo, para preservar su seguridad, es un tremendo testimonio de lo que hay detrás de la llegada de Trump al poder y para entender la posterior muerte en extrañas circunstancias de su primera mujer, Ivana, cuyo cadáver fue llevado rápida y sigilosamente a Mar-a-Lago para ser enterrada sin autopsia.

The Symphony of Monsters is the third novel I have read, based on real events that directly concern the Putin regime.  The first was The Secret of the Swallows, by an anonymous author, to preserve its safety, it is a tremendous testimony of what is behind Trump’s arrival to power and to understand the subsequent death in strange circumstances of his first wife, Ivana, whose body was quickly and quietly taken to Mar-a-Lago to be buried without an autopsy.

La segunda, El mago del Kremlin de Giuliano da Empoli, fue Premio Goncourt en España el año pasado. Una historia oscura, fascinante y terrible, de cómo llegó a la presidencia de Rusia, el anterior director del KGB transformado en FSB, (Servicio Federal de Seguridad de la Federación Rusa) Vladimir Putin. The second, The Wizard of the Kremlin by Giuliano da Empoli, won the Goncourt Prize in Spain last year. A dark, fascinating and terrible story of how the former director of the KGB transformed into the FSB, (Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation) Vladimir Putin, became president of Russia.
