Hablar de Arte, es hablar hoy por hoy de María Ortega. …Es cerrar los ojos y oír a su inteligencia expresarse y a sus sentidos embriagar a los nuestros cuando habla de sus actividades o realizaciones. Es crecer «in situ» cuando descubres lo que comunican sus obras y lo que comunican las obras que ella promueve y ni hablar de los Eventos que produce y/o en los que participa nacionales e internacionales, haciendo del mismo, todo un marco de Arte para el Arte, con todo lo que ella representa para la excelencia cultural en el mundo, haciendo Marca País de su entrañable España, en su máxima expresión.

Si bien la noción de "arte" continúa sujeta a múltiples interpretaciones, cuando María Ortega te habla de lo que esto significa y sobre todo te muestra lo que tiene entre manos la conclusión es una: "exquisitez en su máxima expresión y singularidad."

María Ortega, es madrileña de nacimiento, ciudad capital de España en la que creció para luego emigrar a Londres y después de varios años regresar a la tierra que la vio nacer. Hija de Arqueólogos, creció respirando cultura, vestigios, historia y arte. Cabe mencionar también que la madre de María además, era filósofa como su hermana e hija, de lo que la artista se siente muy afortunada.
María Ortega is from Madrid by birth, the capital city of Spain where she grew up and then emigrated to London and after several years returned to the land where she was born. Daughter of Archaeologists, she grew up breathing culture, vestiges, history and art. It is worth mentioning that María's mother was also a philosopher like her sister and daughter. of which the artist feels very lucky.
Su gran sensibilidad, plasticidad y su culto por el arte en sus indistintos matices la llevó por los senderos del Ballet logrando licenciarse en danza Clásica y Contemporánea así como en aspirante a ser parte de una de las promociones más significativas de dicho arte en España. Sin embargo, su vida da un giro importante por lo que en los años 80 decide estudiar en la Escuela de Diseño de Madrid alcanzando el grado de licenciada y crear su propio estudio de Diseño y de Arte Textil.
Her great sensitivity, plasticity and her cult for art in its indistinct nuances led her along the paths of the Ballet, graduating in Classical and Contemporary dance as well as aspiring to be part of one of the most significant promotions of said art in Spain. However, her life took an important turn, so in the 1980s she decided to study at the School of Design in Madrid, earning a bachelor's degree and creating her own Design and Textile Art studio.
En 1998 se vuelve a mudar a Londres para estudiar Bellas Artes en Art Blake School especializándose en arte textil, grabado, escultura y fotografía. En Londres visitó galerías especializadas en Fiber Art y librerías donde encuentra libros publicados por la editorial "Telos" que le abrió los ojos al mundo hasta entonces desconocido para ella. Portafolios publicados de artistas textiles y libros temáticos sobre Arte Textil de diferentes países del mundo. Las revistas Fiber Art y Textile Forum editadas por la asociación ETN también fueron un referente para su investigación sobre este movimiento que le abre las puertas, conociendo y asistiendo a innumerables eventos, congresos, exposiciones y convocatorias internacionales. Posteriormente completa sus estudios en otras disciplinas artísticas como la cerámica, la fotografía, las nuevas tecnologías digitales técnicas y gestión cultural.
In 1998 she moved back to London to study Fine Arts at Art Blake School, specializing in textile art, printmaking, sculpture and photography. In London, she visited specialized Fiber Art galleries and bookstores where she found books published by the "Telos" publishing house that opened her eyes to a world hitherto unknown to her. Published portfolios of textile artists and thematic books on Textile Art from different countries of the world. The Fiber Art and Textile Forum magazines edited by the ETN association were also a reference for his research on this movement that opened doors for him, meeting and attending innumerable events, congresses, exhibitions and international calls. Later he completed his studies in other artistic disciplines such as ceramics, photography, new technical digital technologies and cultural management.
Su trayectoria artística como podemos apreciar está vinculada al Arte Textil Contemporáneo o Arte de la Fibra (Fiber Art), dedicando sus esfuerzos a promocionar y difundir este movimiento a nivel nacional e internacional de forma relevante.

En el año 2000 de regreso a España comienza a desarrollar obras combinando los textiles con las técnicas de grabado, fotografía y escultura, creando un proyecto global de intercambio cultural que se lleva a cabo desde el año 2007 desarrollando en España con otros países y desde el año 2010 arrancó varios programa de intercambios con artistas Asiáticos y de los Países Bálticos.

Como hemos podido apreciar, María Ortega ha participado en más de 50 exposiciones, entre Ferias de Arte, Bienales y Trienales en todo el mundo, siendo ganadora del 2do premio de la V Bienal Internacional WTA en Argentina, así como otras competiciones. Así mismo ha comisariado y dirigido hasta el momento más de 20 exposiciones relacionadas con el Fiber Art siendo la Directora General de VIII Bienal de Arte Textil Contemporáneo WTA Ciudad Sostenible Madrid, España que tuvo lugar en 2019 y lo que viene pronto, en breve.. También ha sido jurado internacional y nacional en muchos eventos muy significativos a lo largo de su carrera como Gestora Cultural, miembro de importantes organizaciones de vital relevancia así como Embajadora de Madrid.
As we have been able to appreciate, María Ortega has participated in more than 50 exhibitions, including Art Fairs, Biennials and Triennials around the world, being the winner of the 2nd prize of the V WTA International Biennial in Argentina, as well as other competitions. She has also curated and directed more than 20 exhibitions related to Fiber Art to date, being the General Director of the VIII Biennial of Contemporary Textile Art WTA Sustainable City Madrid, Spain that took place in 2019 and what is coming soon... El Arte Textil es una de las fuentes de inspiración de María Ortega, su segunda piel, una forma de expresión a la vez que una disciplina artística en donde los artistas actuales han venido renovando sus propuestas en las últimas décadas, creándose así, una inmensa generación de artistas que alternan las diferentes gramáticas plásticas con los procedimientos de la tradición y la producción artística contemporánea. Y es que el arte textil se está convirtiendo en un medio de comunicación conceptual contemporánea, expresión que cada vez cobra más relevancia en el mundo cultural y que dispone de un infinidad de materiales y técnicas que aportan riqueza a todos los niveles desde el táctil a lo visual.
Textile Art is one of the sources of inspiration for María Ortega, her second skin, a form of expression as well as an artistic discipline where current artists have been renewing their proposals in recent decades, thus creating an immense generation of artists who alternate the different plastic grammars with the procedures of tradition and contemporary artistic production. And it is that textile art is becoming a means of contemporary conceptual communication, an expression that is becoming more and more relevant in the cultural world and that has an infinity of materials and techniques that provide richness at all levels from the tactile to the visual.
Por todo esto, para María Ortega, uno de sus principales objetivos es dar a conocer su trabajo artístico, así como promover y difundir el Arte Textil Contemporáneo, creando y generando exposiciones y eventos culturales relacionados a Fiber Art para generar e intercambiar experiencias y dar a conocer a las nuevas generaciones, ese gran número de artistas que trabajan con estas técnicas y materiales quien como María utiliza muchas técnicas de textiles tales como el bordado a mano y, a veces el bordado a máquina, el patchwork, la tapicería e impresión digital fusionando con diferentes técnicas no textiles como grabado, escultura, fotografía, bajorrelieve o videoarte. Así mismo en algunos de sus de sus trabajos utiliza técnicas de la Alta Costura como el modelado o el patronaje y en otros las técnicas escultóricas de las Bellas Artes.
For all this, for María Ortega, one of her main objectives is to make her artistic work known, as well as to promote and disseminate Contemporary Textile Art, creating and generating exhibitions and cultural events related to Fiber Art to generate and exchange experiences and give meet the new generations, that large number of artists who work with these techniques and materials who, like Maria, use many textile techniques such as hand embroidery and sometimes machine embroidery, patchwork, tapestry and digital printing merging with different non-textile techniques such as engraving, sculpture, photography, bas-relief or video art. Also in some of his works he uses Haute Couture techniques such as modeling or pattern making and in others the sculptural techniques of Fine Arts.
Hablar de arte definitivamente es hablar de María Ortega quien ha logrado atraer la mirada de propios y extraños, generando en torno a sus obras propias como las que promociona gran expectativa a nivel nacional e internacional, gracias al concepto, a las propuestas textil-visuales que presenta.
