JCI COLOMBIA 70 YEARS OF LEADERSHIP: The story in Colombia

La JCI Colombia (Cámara Junior de Colombia), este lunes 06 de Abril cumple 70 años de haber sido fundada en Barranquilla (Puerta de Oro de Colombia),  por el joven Biólogo, Bacteriólogo  Barranquillero ALFREDO GONZALEZ RUBIO BURGOS ,acompañado por un puñado de jóvenes profesionales,empresarios,nace la  Cámara Junior de Barranquilla Y 6 meses después en Noviembre de 1956 y en el XI Congreso Mundial celebrado en Wellington, Nueva Zelanda Colombia es admitida como miembro de la JCI,desde entonces esta organización de liderazgo sigue haciendo presencia en el país.

JCI Colombia (Junior Chamber of Colombia), this Monday, April 6th, celebrates its 70th anniversary. It was founded in Barranquilla (the Golden Gate of Colombia) by the young Barranquilla biologist and bacteriologist Alfredo Gonzalez Rubio Burgos, accompanied by a handful of young professionals and entrepreneurs. Six months later, in November 1956, at the 11th World Congress held in Wellington, New Zealand, Colombia was admitted as a member of JCI. Since then, this leadership organization has maintained a presence in the country.

La primera junta directiva nacional quedó integrada por Alfredo González Rubio como presidente, Epifanio Montoya e Ignacio Bernal vicepresidentes, Manuel Toro como Secretario y Emilio Volpe Marín Tesorero, todos ellos miembros fundadores de la Cámara Junior de Barranquilla que acompañaron a Alfredo Gonzales Rubio en su fundación.

The first national board of directors was made up of Alfredo González Rubio as president, Epifanio Montoya and Ignacio Bernal as vice presidents, Manuel Toro as secretary and Emilio Volpe Marín as treasurer, all of them founding members of the Junior Chamber of Barranquilla who accompanied Alfredo Gonzales Rubio in its founding.

Hoy queremos reconocer a este puñado de hombres, que hicieron posible que esta organización mundial se iniciara en el país, permanezca en él y siga vigente para el bien de estos estos jóvenes interesados en hacer parte de ella.

Today we want to recognize this handful of men, who made it possible for this global organization to start in the country, remain in it and continue to be active for the benefit of these young people interested in being part of it.

La JCI nació en San Louis, de Missouri cuando un joven líder HENRY GIESSENBIER Jr., en 1910 creo una organización que era un club de baile, que luego evoluciono y en 1915 se convirtió en la primera Cámara Junior de Comercio, y en 1944 la JCI se estableció como organización mundial en ciudad de México con el objetivo de unir jóvenes líderes del mundo.

The JCI was born in St. Louis, Missouri when a young leader, Henry Giessenbier Jr., in 1910 created an organization that was a dance club, which then evolved and in 1915 became the first Junior Chamber of Commerce, and in 1944 the JCI was established as a world organization in Mexico City with the goal of uniting young leaders of the world.

La JCI Colombia en el 2026 esta presidido por la joven samaria Laura Stefania Ochoa Domínguez, contadora publica de profesión y líder de convicción, quien lidera la organización nacional con presencia en mas de 10 ciudades de Colombia, fue presidente local de la JCI Santa Marta en el 2020.

JCI Colombia in 2026 is presided over by Laura Stefania Ochoa Domínguez, a young woman from Santa Marta, a public accountant by profession and a leader by conviction, who leads the national organization with a presence in more than 10 cities in Colombia, and was the local president of JCI Santa Marta in 2020.

El Senado de la JCI es una distinción honorifica vitalicia, creada hace más de 50 años para reconocer la trayectoria, liderazgo, y servicio excepcional de miembros destacados de la JCI.Fue creado por el canadiense Philip T.R. Pugsley  y es una red de apoyo activa dentro de la organización mundial de jóvenes lideres su actual Presidente Nacional del Senado JCI Colombia es el abogado Samario Leonardo Manuel Pérez Arias.

The JCI Senate is a lifetime honorary distinction, created over 50 years ago to recognize the achievements, leadership, and exceptional service of outstanding JCI members. It was founded by Canadian Philip T.R. Pugsley and is an active support network within the global organization of young leaders. Its current National President of the JCI Senate Colombia is lawyer Leonardo Manuel Pérez Arias from Santa Marta.

Its motto is «Building Legacy,» an example of service and work by the JCI Senate Colombia.

El presidente mundial de la Junior Chamber Internacional JCI en 2026 es Alejandra Castillo de Bolivia, con su lema Liderar, Conectar, Evolucionar es la primera mujer latina elegida para dicho cargo a nivel mundial.

The world president of Junior Chamber International (JCI) in 2026 is Alejandra Castillo from Bolivia, with her motto «Lead, Connect, Evolve,» and she is the first Latin woman elected to this position worldwide.

En octubre del 2026 se realizará en Barranquilla nuestra convención nacional de la JCI Colombia como homenaje a esa Puerta de Oro de Colombia donde comenzó la organización mundial de jóvenes lideres que hoy conocemos como JCI COLOMBIA, y en esta ciudad se realizaran muchas actividades en este mes de abril de celebración de los 70 años.

In October 2026, our JCI Colombia national convention will be held in Barranquilla as a tribute to that Golden Gate of Colombia where the worldwide organization of young leaders that we know today as JCI COLOMBIA began, and many activities will be carried out in this city in this month of April to celebrate the 70th anniversary.
