EL PENSADOR: Casi, casi, Vacarezza

Tal como había sido previsto, el pasado domingo ocurrió el programado debate presidencial, televisivo, entre los dos candidatos a presidente en el ballotage del próximo domingo.

As planned, last Sunday the scheduled television presidential debate took place between the two candidates for president in next Sunday’s runoff.

¿Hubo realmente lo que uno, en su sano juicio, llamaría “debate”?

Was there really what one, in their right mind, would call “debate”?

No. En realidad, a mi modesto juicio, fue sí una muy prolija representación de una obra teatral -mejor un sainete- que pudo dejar espectadores entretenidos, aburridos, enojados y hasta sorprendidos de haber asistido a lo inesperado, como si los autores hubiesen cambiado a último momento lo que se iba a presentar en el escenario.

No. In reality, in my modest opinion, it was a very neat representation of a theatrical work – better a farce – that could have left spectators entertained, bored, angry and even surprised at having witnessed the unexpected, as if the authors had changed at the last minute what was going to be presented on stage.

Todos muy bien ajustados a cada guión -incluyendo a la pareja que actuaba como presentadora y ordenadora de los parlamentos, leídos de punta a punta, sin importar si duraban tres, dos o un minuto-, muy bien vestidos y maquillados y con escasos titubeos en el decir.

All very well adjusted to each script – including the couple who acted as presenter and organizer of the parliaments, read from end to end, regardless of whether they lasted three, two or one minute -, very well dressed and made up and with few hesitation in the saying

Es increíble. Al paso de los años hemos ido retocando cada debate hasta desnaturalizarlos por completo. En países donde estos acontecimientos llegan a influir en el resultado electoral, los políticos tienen papeles a mano, cómo no, para apoyar alguna afirmación o leer datos numéricos complejos, pero actúan -por supuesto dentro de tiempos pactados más amplios- con libertad de expresión, incluso sacudiendo el orden temático con alusiones pensadas en el momento, con absoluta naturalidad y modificaciones de tono y carácter.

It’s incredible. Over the years we have been tweaking each debate until we completely distorted them. In countries where these events influence the electoral result, politicians have papers at hand, of course, to support a statement or read complex numerical data, but they act – of course within broader agreed times – with freedom of expression, even shaking up the thematic order with allusions thought at the moment, with absolute naturalness and modifications of tone and character.

Bueno. Acá inventamos debates teatralizados, casi, casi parecidos a muñecos movidos por inteligencia artificial, que hallan imposible cambiar de ruta argumental, de usar el humor, la ironía, el aparente o real enojo y hasta la discusión directa y gestual, interrumpiéndose hasta la intervención de un ordenador que siempre está presente para que no se advierta la verdadera capacidad y personalidad de los actores.

Well. Here we invent theatrical debates, almost, almost similar to dolls moved by artificial intelligence, which find it impossible to change the plot route, to use humor, irony, apparent or real anger and even direct and gestural discussion, interrupting until the intervention of a computer that is always present so that the true capacity and personality of the actors is not noticed.

Así las cosas: con toda sinceridad, ¿qué puede haber cambiado este mamarracho con el que los organizadores terminaron insultando a los ciudadanos inteligentes?

So it is: in all honesty, what could have changed this nonsense with which the organizers ended up insulting intelligent citizens?

Nada. El inminente resultado será igual al que ya los votantes tenían resuelto.

Nothing. The imminent result will be the same as what the voters had already decided.

No se puede creer tanta idiotez. Esa desesperación por lo esquemático, ese apego inexorable a la lectura y a tiempos insuficientes para ciertos temas, sólo lleva a la payasada. Me importa un rábano si alguien cree que exagero. Estoy convencido de que mi reacción se parece bastante a la que cualquier elector, salvo, quizás, una minoría de ignorantes o fanáticos.

You can’t believe such idiocy. That desperation for the schematic, that inexorable attachment to reading and insufficient time for certain topics, only leads to clowning. I don’t give a damn if anyone thinks I’m exaggerating. I am convinced that my reaction is quite similar to that of any voter, except, perhaps, a minority of ignorant or fanatics.

Así que, no queda otra, regresaré para continuar estas reflexiones la semana que viene, ya con todo resuelto.
