THE THINKER: The only means

Bueno, ya pasó la primera parte. Sigue todo igual. Las mismas actitudes, las mismas palabras, los mismos globos de colores buscando entusiasmar -sin lograrlo esta vez, hay que reconocerlo- a nosotros los ciudadanos. Y lo mismo de los últimos tiempos: vamos a un balottage.

Well, the first part is over. Everything remains the same. The same attitudes, the same words, the same colored balloons seeking to excite – without success this time, we must admit – us citizens. And the same thing about recent times: we are going to a ballot.

Yo, sin dejar de observar alrededor para formar mis juicios con cierta decencia y, sobre todo, con honestidad intelectual, me mantengo escéptico acerca de que vayan a cambiar, gane la presidencia quien la gane, las habituales reglas de juego. Unas abundantes promesas aderezadas convenientemente, convocatorias a la conciliación nacional para un gran plan de todos -mintiendo con descaro acerca de las desconfianza que se profesan todos los candidatos- y anuncios, para después del resultado de encuentros para lograr las mayorías parlamentarias que serán necesarias para cualquier transformación institucional clave para dibujar un mejor futuro: en la educación, en la seguridad, en la reactivación de la economía, en la inserción en el “mundo de los grandes” para modificar nuestra vida y crear una sociedad solidaria, tolerante, creativa, escéptica cuando sea necesario, y esperanzadora para las generaciones que vendrán.

I, without ceasing to look around to form my judgments with a certain decency and, above all, with intellectual honesty, remain skeptical that the usual rules of the game will change, whoever wins the presidency. Abundant promises seasoned appropriately, calls for national conciliation for a great plan for all – blatantly lying about the distrust that all the candidates profess – and announcements, for after the results of meetings to achieve the parliamentary majorities that will be necessary to any key institutional transformation to draw a better future: in education, in security, in the reactivation of the economy, in insertion into the “world of the greats” to modify our lives and create a supportive, tolerant, creative society, skeptical when necessary, and hopeful for generations to come.

Sí. Bla, bla, bla… Ojalá me equivoque.

Yes. Blah, blah, blah… I hope I’m wrong.

Como me he vuelto fanático de la etología, cosa que ya sabe el lector, voy a cerrar la pálida expectativa que me queda con unas frases del fundador de esta ciencia, Konrad Lorenz:

As I have become a fan of ethology, which the reader already knows, I am going to close the pale expectation that remains with me with a few phrases from the founder of this science, Konrad Lorenz:

At this moment, humanity is a functional whole that has completely deviated. The disproportion that exists between the development of weapons and conflicts and the inhibitions to change things threatens to destroy the human race.”

Punto final. Vayan a chiflar finito. No sé si hay algún candidato que conozca a Lorenz ni detalles de su impresionante obra filosófica.

Final point. Go whistle fine. I don’t know if there is any candidate who knows Lorenz or details of his impressive philosophical work.
