XPLORALYA: The 62nd edition of the Cartagena de Indias International Film Festival – Colombia culminated

EL FESTIVAL INTERNACIONAL DE CINE de CARTAGENA, «FICCI» https://ficcifestival.com/ fundado en 1960, es el festival de cine más antiguo de América Latina. A lo largo de su historia se ha caracterizado por acoger y promover el riesgo y la renovación de la dramaturgia y la caligrafía cinematográfica de Iberoamérica y el mundo. Se trata de un evento cinematográfico gratuito y con vocación social que, anualmente, lee las circunstancias de Colombia y el mundo para desarrollar un encuentro cultural que se resiste a la pretensión de exclusividad y se plantea, en cambio, de una manera inclusiva, plural y de miradas relevantes para el crecimiento del ser humano, la protección de la libre expresión y la potenciación de la cultura como elemento fundamental en la construcción de democracia y sociedades libertarias, progresistas e incluyentes.

THE CARTAGENA INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL, «FICCI» https://ficcifestival.com/ founded in 1960, is the oldest film festival in Latin America. Throughout its history it has been characterized by welcoming and promoting the risk and renewal of dramaturgy and cinematographic calligraphy of Latin America and the world. It is a free film event with a social vocation that, annually, reads the circumstances of Colombia and the world to develop a cultural encounter that resists the pretension of exclusivity and is presented, instead, in an inclusive, plural and of perspectives relevant to the growth of the human being, the protection of free expression and the empowerment of culture as a fundamental element in the construction of democracy and libertarian, progressive and inclusive societies.

Durante 6 días, Cartagena de Indias, se vistió de gala para recibir estudiantes, integrantes de la industria audiovisual de Iberoamérica, prensa, patrocinadores y más de 45 mil personas que disfrutaron de la fiesta cinematográfica más importante de Colombia y de la región.

For 6 days, Cartagena de Indias dressed up to receive students, members of the Ibero-American audiovisual industry, the press, sponsors and more than 45 thousand people who enjoyed the most important film festival in Colombia and the region.

El pasado lunes 27 en el Teatro Adolfo Mejía (TAM) se llevó a cabo la clausura y contó con la proyección de una selección de cortometrajes colombianos, dentro de los cuales se encuentran Color-ido (2023) de Estefanía Piñeres; Entre las sombras arden mundos (2023) de Ismael García; Gualí  (2023) dirigido por Rosa Patricia Perea; Hippomane Mancinella (2022) bajo la dirección de Ricardo Muñoz y Tape (2023) de Carlos Nieto; haciendo del cine nacional uno de los principales protagonistas, con un inicio y un cierre del festival, con historias contadas por cineastas colombianos. 

Last Monday the 27th at the Adolfo Mejía Theater (TAM) the closing ceremony was held and included the screening of a selection of Colombian short films, among which are Color-ido (2023) by Estefanía Piñeres; Between the shadows worlds burn (2023) by Ismael García; Gualí (2023) directed by Rosa Patricia Perea; Hippomane Mancinella (2022) directed by Ricardo Muñoz and Tape (2023) by Carlos Nieto; making national cinema one of the main protagonists, with the beginning and end of the festival, with stories told by Colombian filmmakers.

Durante la ceremonia se realizó un homenaje al Clan Cinematográfico, a la Familia Durán, Mitrotti, Ventura  quienes, por su trayectoria en la industria, que empezó con el nortesantadereano Ciro Durán, dieron inicio a un legado lleno de cine para Colombia en cada generación. Alexis Duran, Hyalmar Mitrotti, y Joyce Ventura, son algunos de los integrantes que estuvieron presentes en el TAM para recibir el reconocimiento hecho por el Festival.

During the ceremony, a tribute was made to the Cinematographic Clan, to the Durán Family, Mitrotti, Ventura, who, due to their career in the industry, which began with Ciro Durán from North of Santander, began a legacy full of cinema for Colombia in each generation. Alexis Duran, Hyalmar Mitrotti, and Joyce Ventura, are some of the members who were present at the TAM to receive the recognition made by the Festival.

“Los cortometrajes que dieron cierre a esta versión del festival, hacen parte de distintas secciones oficiales de esta edición 62, que, en conjunto, crean un poderoso programa de cortos que dan cuenta del panorama actual de la cinematografía colombiana y que deja en evidencia la fuerza visual, narrativa y estética de nuevas generaciones y voces, de diferentes geografías y culturas del país; como La Muestra Indígena, Animotion, Omnívora, entre otras. Desde el año pasado estamos creando un símbolo en la clausura en donde se homenajea a una familia que tenga un historial en el cine colombiano durante generaciones. Uniendo un ‘Clan Cinematográfico’ que generacionalmente han aportado al cine y a su vez, nuevos creadores audiovisuales que se han visto influenciados y beneficiados por dichas familias.”, expresó Felipe Aljure, Director Artístico del Festival, frente a la noche de cierre y lo que se pudo ver.

“The short films that closed this version of the festival are part of different official sections of this 62nd edition, which, together, create a powerful program of short films that reflect the current panorama of Colombian cinematography and that demonstrates the visual, narrative and aesthetic force of new generations and voices, from different geographies and cultures of the country; such as La Muestra Indígena, Animotion, Omnívora, among others. Since last year we have been creating a symbol in the closing where a family that has a history in Colombian cinema for generations is honored. Uniting a ‘Cinematographic Clan’ that generationally have contributed to the cinema and, in turn, new audiovisual creators who have been influenced and benefited by these families”, expressed Felipe Aljure, Artistic Director of the Festival, in front of the closing night and what could be seen.

El FICCI y Cine Color Group, entregaron los premios WIP con 15,000 dólares en servicios de postproducción a cada proyecto, dentro de los cuales estuvieron: Infra rojo Ficción: Adiós al amigo; Infra rojo Documental: Pasajeros; Infra rojo Corto: Gente como uno e Infra rojo – PuertoLab: As cuatro estacoes da juventude. El cortometraje y premio de WIP de Centro Ático fue La Marcha del Hambre. El Documental iberoamericano elegido para los Oscar será El Eco de Tatiana Huezo y Entre las sombras Arden Mundos es el cortometraje iberoamericano seleccionado para los Óscar.

EL FICCI EN CIFRAS / THE FICCI IN FIGURES

1392 miembros de la industria nacional  e internacional se reunieron desde el 22 hasta el 27 de marzo, donde cada rincón de la Heroica respiró cine. Eventos como Historias audiovisuales, posconflicto y justicia transicional Después del Fuego; Docco Laboratorio del Cine a la Acción; Hecho en Colombia: El efecto multiplicador de la industria audiovisual; 25 años de IBERMEDIA, entre otros, fueron los escenarios donde 410 estudiantes pudieron dialogar, aprender y escuchar experimentadas voces de la Industria Cinematográfica mundial.

1,392 members of the national and international industry met from March 22 to 27, where every corner of Heroica breathed cinema. Events such as Audiovisual Histories, post-conflict and transitional justice After the Fire; Docco Laboratorio del Cine a la Acción; Made in Colombia: The multiplying effect of the audiovisual industry; 25 Years of IBERMEDIA, among others, were the venues where 410 students were able to discuss, learn and listen to experienced voices from the world Film Industry.

Directores internacionales como el ganador del Óscar, Sebastián Lelio, Tim Miller director Terminator: Dark Fate y el cineasta israelí Shlomi Elkabetz, hicieron parte del Festival que entre la academia, la cinefilia y las conexiones de producción, conjugaron cada elemento para consolidar al FICCI como uno de los festivales más importantes de la región y el más antiguo de Latinoamérica.

International directors such as the Oscar winner, Sebastián Lelio, Tim Miller, director Terminator: Dark Fate and the Israeli filmmaker Shlomi Elkabetz, were part of the Festival that, between academia, cinephilia and production connections, combined each element to consolidate FICCI as a one of the most important festivals in the region and the oldest in Latin America.

266 proyecciones entre  281 películas de ficción, documental y cortometrajes se pudieron apreciar en AECID, Cine Colombia Plaza Bocagrande, Teatro Adolfo Mejía, Plaza de la Proclamación, MUHCA, Parque Centenario, Torre del Reloj , La Alianza Francesa y Patio La Baronesa, trajeron la cinefilia desde rincones del mundo como España, Italia, Brasil, Reino Unido, Sudáfrica, Malí, Ruanda, Chile, México y muchos más, demostrando la variedad de ópticas cinematográficas que cada año nutren y celebra el FICCI. 

266 screenings among 281 fiction, documentary and short films could be seen at AECID, Cine Colombia Plaza Bocagrande, Adolfo Mejía Theater, Plaza de la Proclamación, MUHCA, Parque Centenario, Torre del Reloj, La Alianza Francesa and Patio La Baronesa, brought the cinephilia from corners of the world such as Spain, Italy, Brazil, the United Kingdom, South Africa, Mali, Rwanda, Chile, Mexico and many more, demonstrating the variety of cinematographic perspectives that each year nourish and celebrate the FICCI.

El Festival conformado por Puerto FICCI-Industria y Academia – con 120 eventos, Cine en los barrios, Secciones oficiales y Los Premios India Catalina de la Industria Audiovisual, trajeron diversidad de actividades y reconocieron a artistas como Alejandra Borrero, Juana Acosta, Sebastián Lelio y 41 categorías de lo más destacado del audiovisual nacional. A nivel local, durante el Festival se generaron 250 empleos directos e indirectos y se desarrollaron 15 eventos sociales entre homenajes, celebraciones y encuentros de la Industria, con un total de 3.160 acreditados. 

The Festival made up of Puerto FICCI-Industria y Academia – with 120 events, Cinema in the neighborhoods, Official Sections and the India Catalina Awards for the Audiovisual Industry, brought a diversity of activities and recognized artists such as Alejandra Borrero, Juana Acosta, Sebastián Lelio and 41 categories of the most outstanding of the national audiovisual. At the local level, during the Festival 250 direct and indirect jobs were generated and 15 social events were held including tributes, celebrations and industry meetings, with a total of 3,160 accredited.
