Marciano Cantero era el nombre artístico de Horacio Eduardo Cantero Hernández nacido en Mendoza ubicado a 1.100 kilómetros al oeste de Buenos Aires, Argentina un 25 de Agosto de 1960.

Su primer contacto con la música se produjo a los 9 años de edad cuando escucha por primera vez a Los Beatles por quienes se sintió atraído, especialmente por el bajo y fue su hermano mayor quien le enseñó sus primeros acordes de guitarra en casa, es así que comienza ahorrar para comprarse un bajo muy económico que no se supo de donde salió pero con el que pudo explorar las notas musicales más bajas, practicando todos los días así como escuchando discos y tocando encima, ampliando así su gran colección de discos que incluía álbumes completos de grupos de rock argentinos.

His first contact with music occurred at the age of 9 when he first heard The Beatles, to whom he felt attracted, especially the bass, and it was his older brother who taught him his first guitar chords at home, is how he began to save to buy a very cheap bass that did not know where it came from but with the one who was able to explore the lower musical notes, practicing every day as well as listening to records and playing over them, thus expanding his large record collection that included complete albums by Argentine rock groups.

Marciano Cantero, uno de los íconos del rock latino, fue un extraordinario músico cantante y compositor de himnos pop y canciones de amor verdadero, reconocido internacionalmente como el líder indiscutible y cantante de la banda de Rock Enanitos Verdes y que a mediados de los 80 escribió temas que sin lugar a dudas traspasaron todas las fronteras y que después de muchos años a la fecha esos temas de esas canciones siguen ahí, como un himno, imperecederas y no como otras en la nostalgia y los recuerdos. Es más, siguen cobrando adeptos en las plataformas más importantes como Spotify entre otras además de reconocimiento y admiración de las nuevas generaciones de músicos, cantautores y público en general.

Marciano Cantero, one of the icons of Latin rock, was an extraordinary musician, singer and composer of pop hymns and true love songs, internationally recognized as the undisputed leader and singer of the rock band Enanitos Verdes and who in the mid-80s wrote themes that undoubtedly crossed all borders and that after many years to date those themes of those songs are still there, like an anthem, enduring and not like others in nostalgia and memories. What’s more, they continue to gain followers on the most important platforms such as Spotify, among others, as well as recognition and admiration from the new generations of musicians, singer-songwriters and the general public.

En 1979, forma la banda Marciano Cantero Bajista, tecladista y cantante junto con Felipe Staiti en la guitarra y Daniel Piccolo en la bateria, forma Enanitos Verdes.. Pero fue a mediados de la década de los 80 cuando la banda se convierte en la expresión mendocina (de Mendoza – Argentina) de ese rock post dictadura que tanto dio que hablar por esas tierras. Es así, que, gracias a sus presentaciones frente a cientos de jóvenes de la época le permitió hacer conocidísima a la banda en Buenos Aires capital Argentina lo que le serviría de plataforma para alcanzar una gran popularidad en toda Latinoamérica ya que Enanitos Verdes basa su éxito en ese estilo tan personal y característico que ellos han sabido plasmar con la indiscutible voz y letra de Marciano, desfilando entre sus discos más populares: Contrarreloj (1986) trabajo que los llevó a la popularidad y contó con la producción de un Andrés Calamaro de quien Cantero dijo: “Creo que Andrés fue parte integral de Contrarreloj y, de hecho, hubo una sugerencia suya en relación a ‘La muralla verde’ que aún la tengo muy presente: me dijo que en el estribillo en vez de estirar la palabra ‘amor’, cantara ‘amor, or, or de ayer’. Esa cuestión de swing, aunque parezca pequeña, él siempre la dominó con mucha gracia”, Habitaciones extrañas (1987), Carrousel (1988), Igual que ayer (1992) y Big Bang (1994), así como el disco Tracción acústica (1998), con canciones de ellos pero en versión en vivo (toda una joya del Rock en Español).

In 1979, he formed the band Marciano Cantero Bassist, keyboardist and singer together with Felipe Staiti on guitar and Daniel Piccolo on drums, he formed Enanitos Verdes. Así mismo, en el discurrir del tiempo podíamos apreciar indistintas personalidades de la nueva generación de la música como grandes íconos de ésta, le pedían su colaboración invitándolo a grabar con ellos, como lo hicieron el puertorriqueño Bad Bunny, el colombiano J. Balvin reconocidos reguetoneros con quienes graba «Un peso» cumpliendo así ellos su propio sueño al lado de Marciano Cantero quien vuelve a cantar sobre el final de un amor fugaz. No fue autobiográfico. “Ahora venimos con el doctorado de la vida: casarse, tener hijos, divorciarse, tener pareja, volver a intentarlo. Así que para mí es fantástico”, contó sobre su matrimonio de 2020 en esa entrevista con el diario local Los Andes. “También volver a Mendoza, como dice mi amigo David Summers: ‘La ciudad que te gusta es donde vive tu novia’, así que disfrutando”. Transcurría el año de 1989 en que se produce la disolución de la banda Enanitos Verdes, logrando que Marciano Cantero inicie su carrera como solista con el disco Luna Nueva bajo un sello independiente con poca difusión pero que sin embargo el tema «Todos esos momentos» fue un éxito impredecible en Chile lo que le animó a encaminarse a su segundo proyecto musical llamado Beat Club en 1991.

Así mismo en 1992 ​se reuniría con sus compañeros de la banda para acordar el retorno de Enanitos Verdes, con la que continuó hasta la fecha fallecimiento el pasado 8 de setiembre del presente año 2022 a la edad de 62 años quien estaba internado en terapia intensiva desde el pasado 29 de agosto por una complicación renal. Había sido operado y no resistió la extirpación de un riñón y parte del bazo.

Fue algo increíble y, cuando terminamos, en los camarines, la gente que trabaja ahí nos dijo que hacía tiempo no escuchaban cantar al público tan fuerte».

El éxito regional de los Enanitos se consolidó especialmente en México y con la diáspora latina de Estados Unidos siendo un buen ejemplo de esto que en Norteamérica se dan las primeras fechas que confirmaron para la gira por sus 40 años: la iniciaron con una participación fugaz en un festival a las afueras de Mendoza y continuaron en Acapulco, Monterrey y Zapopan, con escala en el panteón de la música de Ciudad de México, el Auditorio Nacional. Las grandes joyas musicales que venían de dos de sus álbumes más recordados. Los discos en vivo Tracción Acústica, grabado en Ciudad de México en 1997, y el En Vivo de 2002, que también incluía versiones hechas en Tijuana y del otro lado del Río Grande, en Arizona.

El amor con el público mexicano era tan grande que en su momento Marciano Cantero decide radicar en la ciudad de Hermosillo, desierto de Sonora, en México desde el 2003 hasta el 2019, nacionalizándose allí a principios de siglo.

Es así como Marciano Cantero nos deja una historia de amor maravillosa, la que se coronó con casamiento con una novia de la juventud a la que estuvo 32 años sin ver. Y a la que le había escrito uno de los hits de la banda, Tus viejas cartas.

Marciano Cantero, contó en un programa de radio que la mujer que lo inspiró a componer el tema Tus viejas cartas y con quien se casó después de 32 años sin verse hasta tiempo después justo es uno de los clásicos de Enanitos Verdes, en los años ‘80. “Estuve leyendo tus viejas cartas, donde me hablabas de amor…”, arranca la letra del tema. De novela, definitivamente, su nombre Viviana a quien conoció en 1981 en su Mendoza natal enamorándose plenamente y por completo de ella. Marciano Cantero y su hoy esposa, Viviana, cuentan que poco después de ese flechazo, el grupo fue elegido como “revelación” en el Festival de la Falda, lo que los impulsa a mudarse definitivamente a Buenos Aires, con el objetivo de grabar su primer disco, proyecto incompatible con el noviazgo de Cantero y Viviana. “Cuando nos fuimos con los Enanitos a Buenos Aires, con Viviana dejamos de salir porque yo tenía que seguir con mi carrera, pero nunca tuvimos una pelea, terminamos bien”, recordó entonces el compositor. Terminando la pareja pero jamás aquel amor que se mantuvo intacto durante más de 32 años. En 2018, Marciano y Viviana se reencontraron en Mendoza y le dieron un final felíz a esta historia casándose.
