COLOMBIA: UNESCO CHAIR FOR THE PREVENTION OF VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN IN LATIN AMERICA

Ante América Latina, Colombia asume el liderazgo con la CÁTEDRA UNESCO PREVENCIÓN DE VIOLENCIAS CONTRA LAS MUJERES, que fue lanzada recientemente en la capital de la República, contando con la Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia como anfitriona, en su sede de la Avenida Caracas, en alianza con la Universidad Simón Bolívar, de Barranquilla, y la Fundación TEKNOS, contando con el apoyo irrestricto de la Alta Consejera para la Equidad de la Mujer, Clemencia Carabalí.

In Latin America, Colombia assumes leadership with the UNESCO CHAIR FOR THE PREVENTION OF VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN, which was recently launched in the capital of the Republic, with the Cooperative University of Colombia as host, at its headquarters on Avenida Caracas, in partnership with the Simón Bolívar University, of Barranquilla, and the TEKNOS Foundation, with the unrestricted support of the High Councilor for Women’s Equality, Clemencia Carabalí.

Acudió, en nombre de la institución que acogió tan valiosa iniciativa, en su calidad de anfitriones: la Vicerrectora General licenciada María Consuelo Moreno Orrego, dando sus palabras de agradecimientos a la UNESCO, y por su conducto a la directora de la Cátedra Prevención de Violencias contra las Mujeres, al igual que al numeroso público asistente, que colmó el auditorio central del alma mater. La licenciada Moreno Orrego, expresó: “es de destacar el compromiso adquirido a nivel institucional con el que buscaremos la transformación eficaz de los paradigmas machistas imperantes en nuestra sociedad, en tal sentido, desde nuestro claustro, en los ambientes administrativos, logísticos y operativos de las diecinueve sedes de la Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia aportaremos para que sea realidad la dignificación y el respeto de la mujer en todos los ámbitos, tanto familiares como académicos, culturales y sociales en general.»

The following attended, on behalf of the institution that hosted such a valuable initiative, in their capacity as hosts: the General Vice-Rector, María Consuelo Moreno Correa, giving her words of thanks to UNESCO, and through her to the director of the Violence Prevention Chair against Women, as well as the large audience, which filled the central auditorium of the alma mater.

A su turno, la licenciada Eva Janet Prada, Directora del Campus donde se llevó a cabo tan valiosa y sentida ceremonia, en su intervención manifestó su interés y disposición para implementar las acciones necesarias en pro de la erradicación de las violencias contra las mujeres, luego de compartir el panorama poco alentador de las estadísticas que, nos muestran las nada agradables cifras en aumento de las violencias contra las niñas y las mujeres.

In her turn, Ms. Eva Janet Prada, Director of the Campus where such a valuable and heartfelt ceremony took place, in her speech expressed her interest and willingness to implement the necessary actions in favor of the eradication of violence against women, then to share the not very encouraging panorama of the statistics that show us the unpleasant figures on the increase in violence against girls and women.

La Directora de la Cátedra UNESCO para la Prevención de las Violencias contra las Mujeres, licenciada Emma Doris López Rodríguez, en su intervención, expuso ante el auditorio el recorrido que, desde España, tuvo que realizar para hacer realidad tan valioso sueño; contando con el apoyo de organizaciones colombo/españolas, entre otras la Fundación “Por ti Mujer”, organización con trece años de actividades en la comunidad valenciana, que preside Lucy Polo Castillo, psicóloga colombiana radicada en España desde hace varias décadas.

The Director of the UNESCO Chair for the Prevention of Violence against Women, Emma Doris López Rodríguez, in her speech, explained to the audience the journey that, from Spain, she had to take to make such a valuable dream come true; with the support of Colombian/Spanish organizations, among others the “Por ti Mujer” Foundation, an organization with thirteen years of activities in the Valencian community, chaired by Lucy Polo Castillo, a Colombian psychologist living in Spain for several decades.

Al investigador docente, Jaime Torres, coordinador de la Cátedra UNESCO para la Prevención de las Violencias contra las Mujeres al interior de la universidad Cooperativa de Colombia le correspondió la moderación del panel central con el que se dieron a conocer muchos aspectos importantes y los avances en la temática en el orden nacional e internacional. El licenciado Torres, con sumo orgullo, para La Agencia Mundial de Prensa nos expresó: “Constituye un reto muy interesante para nuestra institución el que nos haya correspondido tan destacado honor de acoger tan importante Cátedra en nuestro claustro,  y corresponderme ser el  responsable de la misma es un grato orgullo que nos llena de muchas expectativas a cumplir en el corto y mediano plazo, procurando sentar las bases de la eliminación de las violencias contra las mujeres en nuestra comunidad educativa, en todas nuestras seccionales, irradiando así a sus familias y a la sociedad en general, con tal de erradicar tan lamentable flagelo para el bien de nuestras futuras generaciones”.

The teaching researcher, Jaime Torres, coordinator of the UNESCO Chair for the Prevention of Violence against Women within the Cooperative University of Colombia, was responsible for moderating the central panel with which many important aspects and advances in the subject in the national and international order. Mr. Torres, with great pride, told us for The World Press Agency: «It is a very interesting challenge for our institution that we have received such an outstanding honor of hosting such an important Chair in our faculty, and being responsible for it is a great pride that fills us with many expectations to meet in the short and medium term, trying to lay the foundations for the elimination of violence against women in our educational community, in all our sections, thus irradiating their families and society in general, in order to eradicate such a lamentable scourge for the good of our future generations”.

Luego de cuatro horas de extraordinarias intervenciones se dio por concluido el lanzamiento de la Cátedra UNESCO para la Prevención de las Violencias contra las Mujeres en la ciudad de Bogotá, campus de la Avenida Caracas de la Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia, para América Latina.

After four hours of extraordinary interventions, the launch of the UNESCO Chair for the Prevention of Violence against Women in the city of Bogotá, Caracas Avenue campus of the Cooperative University of Colombia, for Latin America was concluded.
