SPAIN: ONE OF THE TOURIST DESTINATIONS IN THE NUDIST SECTOR

Muchos habituales del nudismo integral no se encuentran en las listas de asociaciones naturistas repartidas por el mundo. Lo que sí parece cierto, sin embargo, a raíz de las estadísticas es que millones de personas ansían encontrar destinos adaptados a su forma de entender la vida. Bajo las siglas FKK (cultura del cuerpo libre) Alemania es el país con mayor tradición nudista de Europa.

Many regulars of integral nudism are not found on the lists of naturist associations scattered around the world. What does seem certain, however, based on the statistics is that millions of people are eager to find destinations adapted to their way of understanding life. Under the acronym FKK (culture of the free body) Germany is the country with the greatest nudist tradition in Europe.

Ismael Rodrigo es el presidente de FEN (Federación Española de Naturismo). «Para nosotros es completamente natural el desnudo. Lo antinatural es ir con prendas de baño y ropa a temperaturas de escándalo en lugares donde no es necesario por muchas razones. Llevamos varios años celebrando «los dias sin bañador» en colaboración con ayuntamientos como el de Hortaleza o Aluche en Madrid, en piscinas públicas. Nuestra intención – continúa- no es molestar a nadie. Pero defendemos a ultranza nuestros derechos ya que la ley, en España, no persigue el desnudo.»

Ismael Rodrigo is the president of FEN (Spanish Federation of Naturism). «For us, being nude is completely natural. What is unnatural is going with swimwear and clothes at scandalous temperatures in places where it is not necessary for many reasons. We have been celebrating «days without a swimsuit» for several years in collaboration with municipalities such as that of Hortaleza or Aluche in Madrid, in public swimming pools. Our intention – he continues – is not to annoy anyone. But we defend our rights at all costs since the law, in Spain, does not persecute nudity.»

Si bien algunos ayuntamientos españoles se muestran contrarios al nudismo en sus playas habiendo llegado incluso a los tribunales, lo cierto es que todavía está por ver la viabilidad de acotarlo así como su disposición a renunciar al trozo de pastel económico que éste sector produce.

Although some Spanish municipalities are opposed to nudism on their beaches, having even gone to court, the truth is that the feasibility of limiting it remains to be seen, as well as their willingness to give up the piece of economic cake that this sector produces.

D. Quintana lleva veinte seis años practicando el nudismo y no pertenece a ninguna asociación.

Reconoce no necesariamente sentir como propio todo lo relacionado con el naturismo pero sí con el nudismo. «Lo más llamativo del desnudo es que nos equipara a todos por igual . No hay nada sexual ni morboso en un cuerpo, la mayor parte de ocasiones, alejado de los cánones establecidos de belleza. Ver a los adolescentes interactuar entre ellos con total naturalidad y sin complejos demuestra que facilita el crecimiento y la salud mental como seres humanos en desarrollo. Llama mucho la atención como, después de un día de sol, playa y baño completamente desnudos, su forma de comportarse entre ellos cambia con la ropa. Entonces es cuando se relacionan de manera más sexual  intentando resultar atractivos para los otros».

He recognizes not necessarily feeling as his own everything related to naturism but with nudism. «The most striking thing about the nude is that it equates us all equally. There is nothing sexual or morbid in a body, most of the time, away from the established canons of beauty. Seeing teenagers interact with each other naturally and without complexes shows that it facilitates growth and mental health as developing human beings. It draws a lot of attention how, after a day of sun, beach and bath completely naked, their way of behaving with each other changes with their clothes. That’s when they interact in a more sexual way trying to be attractive to each other.»

En cuanto a la higiene Ismael Rodrigo recalca que «es mucho más higiénico ir desnudo que vestido. Utilizamos una toalla que depositamos sobre las superficies donde vamos a sentarnos. No tanto por los demás como por nosotros mismos». De hecho según cuenta «en países sobre todo nórdicos es obligatorio despojarse de las prendas de baño antes de la ducha de higiene que se realiza con jabón en las piscinas para facilitar la limpieza de las partes íntimas. La ropa retiene las bacterias y la humedad propicia su propagación. El sudor y otros fluidos quedan atrapados en el tejido sin posibilitar una correcta limpieza y oxigenación de las distintas partes del cuerpo».

Regarding hygiene, Ismael Rodrigo emphasizes that «it is much more hygienic to go naked than dressed. We use a towel that we deposit on the surfaces where we are going to sit. Not so much for others as for ourselves.» In fact, according to what he says, «in countries, especially Nordic countries, it is mandatory to take off swimwear before taking a hygiene shower, which is done with soap in swimming pools to facilitate cleaning of intimate parts. Clothes retain bacteria and moisture encourages their spread. Sweat and other fluids are trapped in the fabric without allowing proper cleaning and oxygenation of the different parts of the body.

Lo que parece incuestionable es que cada vez con más frecuencia «textiles» y nudistas comparten espacio «y ahí surgen algunos problemas» dice D. Quintana. «Yo tengo un apartamento en propiedad en una de las playas con mayor tradición nudista de España: el playazo de Vera. A veces por error -a pesar de estar perfectamente señalizado de distintas formas- pero muchas por morbo, algún «textil» entra en nuestras instalaciones. No es nada cómodo sentirte observado o que incluso pretendan hacer fotos.

What seems unquestionable is that more and more frequently «textiles» and nudists share space «and that is where some problems arise» says D. Quintana. «I own an apartment on one of the beaches with the greatest nudist tradition in Spain: Playazo de Vera. Sometimes by mistake -despite being perfectly marked in different ways- but many times out of curiosity, some «textile» comes into our facilities. It is not at all comfortable to feel observed or that they even pretend to take photos.

De hecho ésta urbanización o grupo de urbanizaciones (muy cerca hay varios centros comerciales destinados a todo tipo de público) se encuentra inmersa en un conflicto vecinal desde hace años del que no se hacen responsables los propietarios de apartamentos como a los que se refiere D. Quintana destinados al naturismo. Una cuestionable maniobra orquestada por las inmobiliarias adjudicaron a varios compradores de la zona apartamentos en los sectores comercializados como nudistas, que hoy se encuentran divididos en la comunidad de propietarios.

Si bien todos los grupos de población parecen estar representados, a tenor de las más recientes estadísticas, estaríamos hablando de un turismo de calidad, familiar, con cultura ecológica y profundo respeto al medio ambiente que ya se cuenta por millones en todo el mundo. Profesionales en su mayoría independientes con gran poder adquisitivo y de un nivel cultural medio/alto.

Although all population groups seem to be represented, according to the most recent statistics, we would be talking about quality, family tourism, with an ecological culture and deep respect for the environment, which is already counted by millions throughout the world. Mostly independent professionals with great purchasing power and a medium/high cultural level.

Estados Unidos, Venezuela, Perú, Brasil, Grecia, Croacia, Australia, Holanda, Inglaterra, Italia, Ecuador y un larguísimo etcétera han liberalizado el nudismo y han puesto el objetivo en atraer a éste tipo de turismo cada vez más creciente y con demandas más exigentes. Viajes organizados exclusivamente por y para ellos, cruceros….. hoteles de lujo, urbanizaciones enteras al más alto nivel…… Una forma de entender el ocio que, a todas luces, sigue y sigue creciendo.
