A sleeping giant awakening

Considero que el imperialismo estadounidense nunca se imaginó que su patio trasero, al sur de su frontera, algún día, muy a futuro, despertaría y empezaría a romper las cadenas de la dependencia, tanto económica como militar e inclusive cultural del dominio que por casi dos siglos ha impuesto en los países del continente americano.

The US imperialism never imagined that its backyard, south of its border, would one day, far in the future, wake up and begin to break the chains of USA dependency, both economic and military and even cultural, of the full domination that for almost two centuries has imposed on the countries of the American continent.

En 1959, con la llegada de Fidel Castro en Cuba, empezó una racha, que tomó varias décadas en verse el cambio en otros países. Antes de la llegada de los sandinistas al poder en Nicaragua, el imperialismo truncó ese cambio en 1973 con el golpe de estado, brutal y sangriento en Chile contra Salvador Allende.

There were also military dictatorships in other countries, such as Argentina, which remained allied, both to the interests of the national oligarchies and to foreign monopolies, maintaining a brutal repression against Latin American peoples. En el Siglo XXI, países como Venezuela, en su tiempo Ecuador, ahora Chile junto con Honduras y claro además con Cuba, Nicaragua, El Salvador se unen al que ha dado el ejemplo con su liderazgo, me refiero a México.

Estados Unidos es la sede en junio próximo de la Cumbre de Las Américas, pero no todos han sido invitados. Solamente los países que son amigos del imperio, se les permitirá su participación. Como que países como Cuba y otros, no fueran parte de Las Américas.

Next June, the United States is hosting the Summit of the Americas, but not everyone has been invited. Only countries that are friends of the USA will be allowed to participate. As if countries like Cuba and others were not part of the Americas.

Presidentes como el de México y Bolivia, han dicho que no viajaran a la Cumbre, si no se les permite participar a todos.

América Latina es un continente enorme, que debido al yugo imperial, por décadas ha estado agachado a los designios de Estados Unidos, viviendo anestesiado con los controles económicos, político militares del llamado Coloso del Norte.

Latin America is a huge continent, which due to the imperial yoke, for decades has been bowed to the designs of the United States, living anesthetized with the economic, political-military controls of the so-called Colossus of the North.

Pero, como dice el presidente de México, América Latina, ‘ya no es tierra de conquista’. El gigante dormido, ahora ha despertado. México y otras naciones están demostrando que pueden salir adelante con sus propios recursos, comerciar con todos y en beneficio de todos, no solamente para satisfacer los bolsillos de las empresas extranjeras que han actuado como aves de rapiña sobre Nuestra América.

But, as the president of Mexico says, Latin America, «is no longer a land of conquest.» The sleeping giant has now awakened. Mexico and other nations are showing that they can go ahead with their own resources, trade with all countries and for the benefit of all, not only to satisfy the pockets of foreign companies that have acted as birds of prey on our America Continent.
