MEXICO: INDEPENDENT CINEMA

Hacer cine independiente en estos tiempos resulta ambicioso pero no imposible para Fernando Manzano Moctezuma, joven actor de teatro, televisión, cine, guionista y productor guerrerense oriundo de Alcozauca, a quien su genuino interés sobre temas sociales le lleva a próximas grabaciones de largometrajes en su estado natal y también en la Ciudad de México.

Making independent cinema in these times is ambitious but not impossible for Fernando Manzano Moctezuma, a young actor of theater, television, cinema, screenwriter and producer from Guerrero from Alcozauca, whose genuine interest in social issues leads him to future recordings of feature films in his home state and also in Mexico City.

En sus historias se dedicará a visibilizar la fuerte problemática de la mujer en la montaña de Guerrero, donde todavía son vendidas, tratadas como objetos, sin los derechos más elementales bajo el velo de los usos y costumbres.

Otro de sus proyectos está enfocado en un largometraje dedicado a la historia de amor de una pareja que vive en la calle e intenta contraer matrimonio en una sociedad donde son como invisibles o tácitamente rechazados.

El joven director de los cortometrajes “Hijo de tigre” y “15 de septiembre”, es consciente de la necesidad de unir esfuerzos, ya que el cine independiente, particularmente los largometrajes, requieren de desplazamientos, la participación de actores, proyectos en los que se requiere de financiamiento, es por esto que invita a las asociaciones civiles que trabajan en la defensa de los derechos humanos y el tema de género a que se interesen en su proyecto.

The young director of the short films «Hijo de tigre» and «15 de Septiembre» is aware of the need to join forces, since independent cinema, particularly feature films, require travel, the participation of actors, projects in which financing is required, which is why he invites civil associations that work to defend human rights and gender issues to take an interest in his project.

Entrevistado en el corazón de la alcaldía Coyoacán, de la Ciudad de México, Fernando nos comparte entusiasmado que está realizando una investigación en la montaña de Guerrero, en un pueblo llamado Cahuatache, donde la mayoría de las mujeres son objeto de comercio, y mientras el feminismo está arraigado en las grandes ciudades, en provincia ni siquiera se vislumbran los derechos humanos, expresa con preocupación.

Interviewed in the heart of the Coyoacán mayor’s office in Mexico City, Fernando enthusiastically shares that he is conducting an investigation in the mountains of Guerrero, in a town called Cahuatache, where most of the women are traded, and while the Feminism is rooted in the big cities, in the province human rights are not even glimpsed, she expresses with concern.

Esta es la realidad en las comunidades donde las autoridades locales no ponen atención a estos casos porque los usos y costumbres están tan arraigados que no se cuestionan.

During the investigation, Fernando found the story of a young woman beaten by her husband, from whom she fled and when she returned to her father’s house, he forced her to return with her spouse, regardless of the injuries she presented. This is the reality in the communities where the local authorities do not pay attention to these cases because the uses and customs are so ingrained that they are not questioned.

Es triste, señala el joven cineasta, porque nos debemos reconocer como seres humanos, y que estos derechos se pasen por alto incluso en la misma familia, es terrible, así existen casos en distintos lugares como Oaxaca y Puebla, es un mal nacional, que mientras en las ciudades peleamos por el leguaje inclusivo, no hemos aprendido lo básico como el derecho a la libertad y a elegir.

It is sad, says the young filmmaker, because we must recognize ourselves as human beings, and that these rights are ignored even in the same family, it is terrible, so there are cases in different places such as Oaxaca and Puebla, it is a national evil, that While in the cities we fight for inclusive language, we have not learned the basics such as the right to freedom and to choose.

En las comunidades de nuestro país México, hay conductas machistas, en los pueblos donde el hombre es el proveedor, el eje de la familia y la sociedad, se ha llegado a minimizar a la mujer tremendamente y quien no tiene dinero para pagar una boda, recurre a la violación, conozco casos, y de esta temática va el documental que quiero preparar con asociaciones civiles como Mujeres de Tlapa A.C. y todas las A. C. que estén interesadas en impulsar este proyecto, que puedan ver en el cine un gran catalizador de conciencia social.

En teatro para las obras “Fuckinlandia” (2017) y “El gesticulador” (2018). En televisión ha tenido actuaciones en las series “La Guzmán”, “Rosario Tijeras” e “Ingobernable”, estas últimas en 2018.

El otro proyecto que se desarrolla en la Ciudad de México tiene el título provisional de “Cosas del Amor”, es la historia de una pareja de indigentes que se quiere casar pero no puede porque la sociedad pide requisitos que ellos no tienen, acta de nacimiento, CURP, comprobante de domicilio; ellos viven en la calle, este trabajo quiere llevar a las pantallas sensibilidad y reflexión, ¿es acaso que la sociedad ya los excluyó y no hay oportunidad ni derechos para ellos?.

Fernando Manzano, quien radica la mayor parte del tiempo en México, expresa la dificultad de hacer cine independiente que disfruta mucho y cuando le falta el equipo necesario, el presupuesto, aunado a que el gobierno en la actualidad no tiene el interés mínimo en las artes, cada vez se le disminuyen recursos mientras que en las elecciones se gastaron millones de pesos cuando al IMCINE se le cortó presupuesto y todas las artes han sido afectadas, afirma.

Si a las grandes empresas se les otorga subsidio, por qué no impulsar el arte, tenemos muchos cineastas que han puesto a México en alto pero que han sobresalido no por los apoyos sino por el ímpetu y compromiso de los artistas.

If large companies are granted a subsidy, why not promote art, we have many filmmakers who have made Mexico high but who have stood out not because of the support but because of the impetus and commitment of the artists.

Es necesario visibilizar las problemáticas a través del arte, llegar al intelecto de forma más inmediata, el arte tiene ese poder sin necesidad de explicar nada.
