Hola ¿como están?, aquí estamos de nuevo en un nuevo año, una nueva aventura de 365 días que se nos presenta, desafortunadamente en medio de una pandemia se ha mostrado lo mejor y lo peor de nosotros, nos ha demostrado que la humanidad puede perder ese adjetivo que califica a su nombre “humanidad”, ¿de que te hablo?, ya te lo diré.

unfortunately in the middle of a pandemic the best and worst of us have been shown, It has shown us that humanity can lose that adjective that qualifies its name «humanity», what am I talking about? I’ll tell you.

Hoy nos tomaremos un café expreso fuerte, tan fuerte como ese sentimiento que hoy nos llena, te invito a que te prepares tu bebida favorita y me acompañes en esta travesía de palabras que irán tomando forma hasta develar una historia, que en este momento todavía no sé cómo llamarla, espero que en el transcurso de la misma el nombre de devele.

Hoy te platicaré un poco de mi historia, recorreremos juntos 34 horas aproximadamente de mi vida, te estoy hablando tres días, Viernes, Sábado y Domingo.

Today I will tell you a little about my story, we will travel together approximately 34 hours of my life, I’m talking to you for three days, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

¿Sabes?, el viernes desde temprano el día se sentía un poco pesado, con algunos o mejor dicho muchas cosas que estaban sucediendo que hacían que las cosas se descontrolaran un poco y se tuvieran que hacer ajustes sobre la marcha para que la operación de la empresa y el servicio a los clientes se diera de forma correcta. A la par de lo anterior estaban las llamadas telefónicas y mensajes de mi esposa que me comentaban que el papá de una amiga muy querida seguía malito, te hago una pausa, el papá de nuestra amiga había salido positivo a Covid con baja carga viral y estaba convaleciendo en casa con enfermera asistiendo en los cuidados; ahora si, regresando a la historia mi esposa me comentaba que el Sr. Se había quitado la línea del suero y no podían volver a ponerle otra línea (así le llamamos), ese día terminamos de trabajar y me quedé hasta que cerramos oficinas como normalmente lo hago, salimos y le dije a mi esposa que pasaría a casa de nuestra amiga que me quedaba de paso para ver como seguía la situación y si la podía apoyar en algo, llegué a su casa y ahí arranca el conteo de las 34 horas siguientes.

Along with the above were the phone calls and messages from my wife who told me that the father of a very dear friend was still ill, I pause you, our friend’s father had tested positive for Covid with a low viral load and was convalescing at home with a nurse assisting in the care; yes now, Going back to the story, my wife told me that Mr. had removed the serum line and they could not put another line on him (that’s what we call him), that day we finished work and I stayed until we closed offices as I normally do, We went out and I told my wife that I would go to our friend’s house, who I was passing through to see how the situation was going on and if I could support her in something, I arrived at her house and there the count of the next 34 hours starts.

Cabe aclarar, que no daré nombres porque no es necesario, lo que es necesarios es dejar un testimonio de lo que actualmente está sucediendo y que todos deberíamos tomar en consideración para las decisiones que tomamos.

Llegando a su casa vi que las cosas no estaban nada bien, no habían podido ponerle una línea para el suero porque ya estaba muy deshidratado y las condiciones de las venas no ayudaban, cabe aclarar que mi amiga está sola ella con sus hijos, llegó también su hermana y llegó el momento de tomar decisiones.

Arriving at his house I saw that things were not good at all, they had not been able to put a line for the serum because he was already very dehydrated and the conditions of the veins did not help, It should be noted that my friend is alone with her children, her sister also arrived and it was time to make decisions.

Hablamos con el Neumólogo que lo estaba asistiendo y efectivamente nos dijo que ya era momento de llevarlo al hospital porque se estaba descompensando, no había forma de alimentarlo, pasarle medicamentos y su oxigenación bajaba peligrosamente, cabe aclarar que el paciente contaba con seguro de gastos médicos mayores por lo que no debería haber problema para que lo atendieran por lo menos para estabilizarlo.

Hablamos con el seguro y se pusieron a tratar de localizarnos una ambulancia y esa fue el primer problema, no había ambulancias, se me ocurrió hablar al 911 y ahí si nos pudieron conseguir una ambulancia. Una vez que llegó la ambulancia, subimos al paciente y nos dirigimos al hospital, primero no lo quisieron recibir en urgencias por ser covid positivo, así que nos mandaron al área covid del hospital, ahí se da uno cuenta que no estábamos lo suficientemente preparados porque ni letrero tenía. Así que de entrada fue difícil encontrarla, luego te das cuenta que la recepción está a un lado de una puerta en un pasillo que dice “Morgue” y pues eso va minando tu carácter, el paciente entró directo lo subieron a un elevador y se lo llevaron a piso para su supuesta atención, pero resulta que dice la de recepción que había un error y ellos pensaron que era otro paciente que estaban ya esperando y que no tenían espacio para nuestro paciente, le dijimos, el problema es que ya no tenemos oxígeno para llevarlo a otro lugar y el Dr. El especialista de aquí nos pidió traerlo, ella nos comentó que había 20 pacientes adelante por recibir atención y que era imposible atenderlo.

There were no ambulances, it occurred to me to call 911 and then if they could get us an ambulance. Once the ambulance arrived, we took the patient up and went to the hospital, first they did not want to receive him in the emergency room because he was covid positive, so they sent us to the covid area of ​​the hospital, there one realizes that we were not sufficiently prepared because there was no sign. So from the beginning it was difficult to find it, then you realize that the reception is next to a door in a corridor that says «Morgue» and well that is undermining your character, he patient entered directly, they put him on an elevator and took him to the floor for his supposed attention, but it turns out that the receptionist says that there was an error and they thought it was another patient who was already waiting and that they did not have space for our patient, wWe told him, the problem is that we no longer have oxygen to take him to another place and Dr. The specialist here asked us to bring him, she told us that there were 20 patients ahead to receive care and that it was impossible to treat him.

Ya te imaginarás como la tensión subía poco a poco cada vez que nos decían que teníamos que sacarlo de ahí, localizamos al médico especialista y nos comentó que si ya estaba en piso sería negligencia sacarlo porque estaba en un estado ya muy grave en ese momento, le pedimos que hablara él con el hospital y así lo hizo y la respuesta fue la siguiente:

“Me llamaron la atención por tratar de influir para que el paciente fuera aceptado y que la única forma de que lo  pudieran recibir es que en ese momento pagáramos 1 millón de pesos y con eso lo pondrían en reconversión” se nos cayó el mundo cuando nos dijeron eso porque ¿de donde sacar en ese momento 1 millón de pesos? Hablamos con el seguro de gastos médicos para que ellos hablaran con el hospital y fue inútil, a ellos igualmente se les dijo que le negaban la atención al paciente y mientras esto sucedía vi que se abrió el elevador y ahí venía el papá de mi amiga, prácticamente lo estaban sacando del hospital sin atenderlo y en un estado casi agónico, lo estaban corriendo, lo estaban dejando prácticamente en la calle, cabe aclarar que en ese momento estábamos a 9 grados centígrados, así que hacíamos lo posible por cubrirlo con mantas para que pudiera aguantar un poco más.

Todo esto nos decía que la noche sería una noche de muchas decisiones que tomar, la ambulancia nos decía que ya no tenían ellos tampoco oxígeno que ya se les había terminado por lo que debíamos decidir rápidamente que hacer, nos podían llevar a otro hospital pero como es un servicio público si ahí ya no nos recibían ya no podrían llevarnos a ningún otro lugar, así que la decisión que se tomó es que regresara a la casa de donde había salido, por lo menos ahí había una máquina que generaba oxígeno y eso por lo menos nos daría tiempo.

All this told us that the night would be a night of many decisions to make, the ambulance told us that they no longer had oxygen that they had already run out so we had to quickly decide what to do, they could take us to another hospital but since it is a public service if they no longer received us there they could not take us anywhere else, so the decision that was made was for him to return to the house where he had come from, at least there was a machine that generated oxygen and that at least would give us time.

Lo regresamos a la casa, pero ya te imaginarás que si yo estaba molesto como estaban sus hijas, destruidas emocionalmente por ver que a su padre lo había sacado del hospital y no les había importado ni la condición ni la situación, todo era dinero, dinero, dinero.

We returned him to the house, but you can imagine that if I was upset how his daughters were, emotionally destroyed to see that their father had been taken from the hospital and they had not cared about the condition or the situation, it was all money, money, money.

Ya en la casa se le volvió a conectar al oxígeno y decidimos no hacer ningún otro movimiento hasta que estuviéramos seguros que lo aceptarían en alguna institución hospitalaria, para esto ya eran alrededor de las 3:00 am del sábado, nos fuimos y después de buscar encontramos que un hospital público si lo podría recibir y ahí venía otra vez el problema de encontrar ambulancia.

Once at home he was reconnected to oxygen and we decided not to make any other movement until we were sure that he would be accepted in a hospital institution, for this it was already around 3:00 am on Saturday, we left and after searching we found that a public hospital could receive him and there came the problem of finding an ambulance again.

Nuevamente se le habló al seguro de gastos médicos y nos comentaron que ya nos habían asignado ambulancia pero que estaba detenido en otro hospital desde las 10 de la noche es decir más de 5 horas con un paciente dentro porque el hospital a donde lo estaban llevando no lo podían recibir por falta de capacidad. Entonces. estaban esperando y nos dijeron, realmente esto está complicado sería bueno a ver si ustedes la pueden conseguir, otra vez el 911 fue de gran ayuda, ellos nos consiguieron otra ambulancia y cuando llegaron y lo vieron fueron muy claros, su papá está muy grave y es probable que tenga un infarto en la ambulancia, se decidió correr el riesgo porque la verdad es que ya lo veíamos en un estado agónico y era más que necesario la intervención de algún hospital que lo pudiera sacar adelante.

Again, the medical expenses insurance was spoken to and they told us that they had already assigned us an ambulance but that he was detained in another hospital since 10 at night, that is, more than 5 hours with a patient inside because the hospital where they were taking him was not they could receive it for lack of capacity, So, tThey were waiting and they told us, this is really complicated, it would be good to see if you can get it, again 911 was a great help, they got us another ambulance and when they arrived and saw it they were very clear, his dad is very serious and is likely to have a heart attack in the ambulance, it was decided to take the risk because the truth is that we already saw him in an agonizing state and the intervention of a hospital that could take him forward was more than necessary.

Llegamos al hospital público y esta es la forma en que se maneja: Uno está parado en la calle afuera de una puerta roja, toca uno y abren para que entre la camilla con el paciente y solo ellos, la puerta se cierra y solo la abren lo necesario para que pueda uno dar información sobre el paciente que está ingresando, piden autorización para en caso de ser necesario, se intube y te piden que una persona se quede ahí afuera por 1 hora por si se requiere algo y la otra persona vaya a la entrada de urgencias a dejar un teléfono y correo electrónico ya que solamente una vez al día te llamarán para decirte como está tu familiar, a las 6 de la mañana del sábado terminamos con esta situación.

We arrive at the public hospital and this is the way it is handled: One is standing in the street outside a red door, knocks on one and they open for the stretcher to enter with the patient and only them, the door closes and they only open it what is necessary so that one can give information about the patient who is entering, they ask for authorization to, if necessary, get intubated and they ask you to have a person stay out there for 1 hour in case something is required and the other person go to the emergency entrance to leave a phone and email since only once a day they will call you to tell you how it is your relative, at 6 in the morning on Saturday we ended this situation.

Cabe señalar que a medio día hablaron que el paciente seguía en condición crítica pero estaba resistiendo, pero para las 2 de la mañana del domingo presentó un infarto y falleció.

It should be noted that at noon they spoke that the patient was still in critical condition but was resisting, but by 2 am on Sunday he had a heart attack and died.

Todo lo anterior te lo cuento porque esto que ahora lo vivimos nosotros al apoyar a nuestra amiga, ocurre todos los días en todo el país, tener un seguro de gastos médicos ya no es importante porque no hay espacio en los hospitales y ellos ya se olvidaron de lo que en un principio te dije: “humanidad” se les olvidó como doctores, que tenían que dar todo por sus pacientes, ahora te extorsionan pidiéndote dinero aún y cuando hay un seguro de gastos médicos para este fin y en los hospitales públicos también están saturados y no hay garantía de que tu familiar encuentre un respirador, pero como están aislados nunca te darás cuenta si realmente le dieron la atención o lo dejaron morir.

Como otro punto te comento que el oxígeno tan importante para vivir al inició costaba 2,500 y ahora vale hasta 50,000 pesos mexicanos, todo se ha vuelto negocio para los que venden suplementos médicos, ya no importa que la gente no lo pueda pagar, las enfermeras cobran lo que quieren, la idea es ganar mucho dinero en poco tiempo, todo es lucrar con la muerte.

Así de triste estamos viviendo estos tiempos, necesitamos hacer un alto y pensar que nos está sucediendo como seres humanos, nos hemos acostumbrado demasiado a escuchar sobre la muerte pero créeme lo que te digo, realmente no conoces la muerte hasta que la ves a los ojos en el rostro de un familiar que se te está muriendo y ahí las cosas cambian de perspectiva. Realmente no deseo que la veas, solo espero que con mis palabras la puedas dimensionar.
