For decades, the recognition of Italian citizenship *iure sanguinis* was governed primarily by Law 91/1992. In practical terms, for those who could prove a line of Italian descent, the process involved reconstructing the family lineage through documentation, verifying records, correcting any errors, and submitting the appropriate application.
