After the Collateral Damage Following the Extraction of Maduro and Cilia Flores

Algunos murieron como daño colateral, atrapados en el fuego cruzado. Cadetes, jóvenes soldados, civiles entre ellos 34 cubanos que simplemente estaban trabajando. Venezolanos con nombre y rostro, cubanos cuyas vidas truncadas corren el riesgo de convertirse solo en cifras dentro de una estadística.

Some died as collateral damage, caught in the crossfire. Cadets, young soldiers, civilians—among them 34 Cubans who were simply working. Venezuelans with names and faces, and Cubans whose lives, cut short, risk becoming just numbers in a statistic.

Fueron hermanos latinoamericanos y centroamericanos que pagaron un precio demasiado alto, mientras el poder se desplazaba con frialdad, ajeno al costo humano de sus movimientos.

They were Latin American and Central American brothers who paid too high a price, while power moved coldly, oblivious to the human cost of its actions.

Hoy, sus familias enfrentan un silencio que duele más que cualquier comunicado oficial. Un silencio que no explica, que no repara y que no consuela.

Today, their families face a silence that hurts more than any official statement. A silence that doesn’t explain, doesn’t repair, and doesn’t console.

Es necesario hacer un punto y aparte. La guardia que acompañaba a Nicolás Maduro no estaba integrada por figuras inocentes ni ajenas a la represión. Muchos de ellos formaron parte de estructuras señaladas por prácticas de violencia, persecución y tortura, actuando con precisión y sin contemplaciones.

It’s necessary to make a point and move on. The guard accompanying Nicolás Maduro was not made up of innocent figures or ones unrelated to repression. Many of them were part of structures accused of practices of violence, persecution, and torture, acting with precision and without mercy.

Durante años, la población civil —incluidos estudiantes— fue víctima directa de este engranaje del poder, simplemente por pensar distinto o expresar desacuerdo.

For years, the civilian population—including students—was a direct victim of this machinery of power, simply for thinking differently or expressing disagreement.

Tras los hechos, policías y colectivos tomaron nuevamente las calles. Se reforzó la vigilancia, el control y la intimidación, como recordatorio de que el miedo sigue siendo una de las herramientas más eficaces —y menos costosas— para sostenerse en el poder.

After the events, police and collectives took to the streets again. Surveillance, control, and intimidation were reinforced, as a reminder that fear remains one of the most effective—and least costly—tools for staying in power.

El contraste es duro: entre quienes vestían uniforme para proteger al régimen y los civiles que terminaron pagando con sus vidas, queda una lección amarga. La sangre derramada tiene nombre y rostro, y no todo uniforme representa inocencia.

The contrast is harsh: between those who wore uniforms to protect the regime and the civilians who ended up paying with their lives, a bitter lesson remains. The spilled blood has names and faces, and not every uniform represents innocence.

Mientras algunos venezolanos celebraron en la diáspora y otros guardaron prudente silencio dentro del país, hoy impera una calma tensa. El poder vuelve a delegar el control a las calles, maquillando las órdenes con fusiles, discursos y sonrisas forzadas.

While some Venezuelans celebrated in the diaspora and others kept a prudent silence within the country, today a tense calm prevails. Power once again delegates control to the streets, disguising orders with rifles, speeches, and forced smiles.

En Venezuela, el tablero del poder se mueve con precisión calculada. Sin embargo, la historia demuestra que los gobiernos sostenidos únicamente por la fuerza terminan cayendo, una y otra vez, con la misma piedra.

In Venezuela, the board of power moves with calculated precision. However, history shows that governments sustained solely by force end up falling, time and again, over the same stone.

Tarde o temprano, Venezuela será libre.

Sooner or later, Venezuela will be free.
