COLOMBIA: The SWEET ROUTE-Cali Flowerpots-Heritage, Memory and tradition of visiting Cartagena.

Con el Lema el “Arte dulce que nos une”, la Asociación de mujeres artesanas de macetas de alfeñiques ASOMACETAS se tomaron Cartagena de Indias este fin de semana pasado, con el propósito e intención de mostrar su arte y cultura en la creación de la Macetas de Alfeñiques, y en la Fundación Ángeles Somos Patrimonio Cultural Inmaterial de Colombia, mostraron la forma de hacer y crear estas multicolores Macetas Caleñas.

With the motto «Sweet art that unites us», the Association of Women Artisans of Alfeñique Pots ASOMACETAS took over Cartagena de Indias this past weekend, with the purpose and intention of showing their art and culture in the creation of Alfeñique Pots, and at the Ángeles Somos Intangible Cultural Heritage of Colombia Foundation, they showed the way to make and create these multicolored Cali Pots.

MACETAS DE CALI o macetas de alfeñiques / CALI POTS or sugar candy pots.

Son artesanías elaboradas en azúcar, que los días 29 de junio los padrinos entregan a sus ahijados, como símbolo de su vínculo afectivo y espiritual. Tradicional regalo de Padrino y Madrinas a sus ahijados todos los 29 de Junio.

These are sugar crafts that godparents give to their godchildren on June 29th as a symbol of their emotional and spiritual bond. A traditional gift from godparents to their godchildren every June 29th.

HISTORIA Y TRADICION / HISTORY AND TRADITION.

Esta tradición que nació según su historia en el sigo XIX, por una leyenda sobre Dorotea Sánchez que el día del cumpleaños de sus gemelos no tenia nada que darle pidió ayuda divina a los santos apóstoles Pedro Pablo y en estos se le aparecieron y le enseñaron PREPARAR ESTE DULCE.

This tradition, which according to its history originated in the 19th century, stems from a legend about Dorotea Sánchez who, on her twins’ birthday, had nothing to give them and asked for divine help from the holy apostles Peter and Paul. They appeared to her and taught her how to prepare this sweet treat.

Por su valor cultural esta practica fue declarada Patrimonio Cultural Inmaterial de la Nación en el 2013, y por eso estuvieron en la Fundación Ángeles Somos de Cartagena de Indias, que es otro Patrimonio Cultural e Inmaterial de la Nación, en compañía del Interact Cartagena de Indias y otros niños de la comunidad las artesanas les enseñaron como hacer los alfeñiques y como preparar la maceta. La asociación regalo macetas a cada uno de los participantes.

Due to its cultural value, this practice was declared an Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Nation in 2013. For this reason, the children visited the Ángeles Somos Foundation in Cartagena de Indias, another Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Nation, where, along with members of Interact Cartagena de Indias and other children from the community, the artisans taught them how to make the sugar skulls and how to prepare the flowerpots. The association gave flowerpots to each of the participants.

COMPONENTES DE LA MACETA / COMPONENTS OF THE POT

Dulces de alfeñiques, que son figuras elaboradas con azúcar hilado y moldeado con diversas figuras. Que se ensartan en un tallo de maguey y con varitas secas de adorno se decoran con papel celofán y sedas de colores muy vivos. Más de cien años lleva esa tradición caleña. Que en el 2003 paso de ser una tradición familiar caleña a un Patrimonio Cultural de la Nacion.Asomacetas es la organización líder en la labor de mantener vivo este arte, se organizan ferias, talleres y exposiciones en plazas y calles de Cali, que se llenan de color puntos de ventas de estas tradicionales macetas-

Alfeñique sweets are figures made from spun sugar, molded into various shapes. They are strung on a maguey stalk and decorated with dried sticks, cellophane paper, and brightly colored silks. This Cali tradition is over a hundred years old. In 2003, it went from being a Cali family tradition to a National Cultural Heritage. Asomacetas is the leading organization in the effort to keep this art alive, organizing fairs, workshops, and exhibitions in Cali’s plazas and streets, which are filled with colorful sales points for these traditional sugar figurines.

OBSERVATORIO DE INFANCIA Y ADOLESCENCIA ANGELES SOMOS / ANGELS WE ARE OBSERVATORY OF CHILDHOOD AND ADOLESCENCE

En su sede el barrio de Torices, se hizo este famoso encuentro taller con participación de mas de 50 niños y adultos del Interact Cartagena de Indias, Club Rotario Cartagena de Indias, Guardianes de Ángeles Somos, , padres de familia y comunidad, donde además se brindo por parte del observatorio el Tradicional Sancocho de Ángeles Somos donde su Presidente Rosa de Paniagua explico y mostro a los invitados los diversos elementos y componentes de este famoso sancocho.

At its headquarters in the Torices neighborhood, this famous workshop meeting was held with the participation of more than 50 children and adults from Interact Cartagena de Indias, Rotary Club Cartagena de Indias, Guardians of Ángeles Somos, parents and community, where the observatory also provided the Traditional Sancocho of Ángeles Somos where its President Rosa de Paniagua explained and showed to the guests the various elements and components of this famous sancocho.
