A Nostalgic Look: How we played in the 80s and 90s

Recordar cómo jugábamos en los años 80 y 90 es un ejercicio nostálgico que nos recuerda la simplicidad y la diversión de aquellos tiempos. Sin las distracciones tecnológicas de hoy, dependíamos más de nuestra imaginación y de las relaciones cara a cara con nuestros amigos. Estos recuerdos no solo nos llenan de nostalgia, sino que también nos invitan a compartir con las nuevas generaciones, la magia de aquellos juegos y actividades, preservando una parte importante de nuestra cultura y nuestra infancia.

Remembering how we played in the 80s and 90s is a nostalgic exercise that reminds us of the simplicity and fun of those times. Without today’s technological distractions, we relied more on our imaginations and face-to-face relationships with our friends. Los años 80 y 90 fueron décadas doradas para quienes crecieron en ellas. Sin la omnipresencia de la tecnología moderna, los niños y jóvenes de esa época desarrollaron una creatividad y una capacidad de entretenernos que a menudo parece perdida en la actualidad.

The 80s and 90s were golden decades for those who grew up in them. Without the omnipresence of modern technology, the children and young people of that time developed a creativity and an ability to entertain ourselves that often seems lost today.

JUEGOS AL AIRE LIBRE / OUTDOOR GAMES

Antes de la era de los smartphones y las tables, los juegos al aire libre eran la principal fuente de entretenimiento.

EL ESCONDITE / HIDEOUT

Un juego clásico, donde un jugador contaba hasta 100 mientras los demás se escondían. El objetivo era encontrar a todos los escondidos antes de que pudieran regresar a la “BASE” Sin ser atrapados.

A classic game, where one player counted to 100 while the others hid. The objective was to find all those hiding before they could return to the “BASE” without being caught.

LA RUEDA DE LA FORTUNA / WHEEL OF FORTUNE

Con una simple cuerda, se organizaban concursos de saltar la cuerda, ya sea individualmente o en grupo. Los más hábiles lograban hacer trucos mientras saltaban.

With a simple rope, jumping rope competitions were organized, either individually or in groups. The most skilled ones managed to do tricks while jumping.

LAS CANICAS / THE MARBLES

Las canicas o bolitas también llamadas pichas. Era un juego de precisión y estrategia. Había diferentes modalidades, pero la más común era intentar sacar las canicas de los demás de un círculo dibujado en la tierra.

The marbles or balls also called pichas. It was a game of precision and strategy. There were different modalities, but the most common was trying to get other people’s marbles out of a circle drawn on the ground.

EL TROMPO / THE SPIN

Jugar con el trompo era todo un arte. El objetivo era mantener el trompo girando el mayor tiempo posible, los más expertos lo bailaban en la uña, a veces compitiendo para ver quién podía hacerlo girar en ciertos lugares o incluso hacer trucos con él.

Playing with the top was an art. The goal was to keep the top spinning for as long as possible, the most expert ones danced it on the nail, sometimes competing to see who could spin it in certain places or even do tricks with it.

Un juego similar al bingo, pero con imágenes coloridas que representaban la cultura mexicana, era una forma divertida y educativa de pasar el tiempo.

MONOPOLY / MONOPOLIO

Este juego de mesa de estrategia financiera, enseñaba a los niños conceptos básicos de economía, y las partidas podían durar horas.

STOP /DETENTE

Consistía en tomar una hoja y hacer un listado, un jugador ponía la letra y había que llenar el listado con esa letra, el que acabara primero decía stop. Y ya nadie podía escribir más. Ganaba el que escribía más columnas.

It consisted of taking a sheet of paper and making a list, a player put in the letter and you had to fill out the list with that letter, whoever finished first said stop. And no one could write anymore. The one who wrote the most columns won.

UNO / ONE

Un juego de cartas sencillo pero educativo, que consistía en deshacerse de todas las cartas de la mano antes que los demás, utilizando cartas especiales para cambiar la dirección del juego o hacer que los otros jugadores pierdan turno.

Libro de colores, hojas sueltas y cualquier papel que se pudiera encontrar, se llenaba de dibujos. Los tapices de colores y creyones eran indispensables.

MANUALIDADES / CRAFTS

Hacer pulseras de hilo, construir figuras con plastilina, y crear obras maestras con papel maché eran actividades comunes.

LEER, LIBROS Y CÓMICS / READ, BOOKS AND COMICS

Historias de aventuras, fantasías y ciencia ficción, llenaban las estanterías de muchos hogares. Los cómics de superhéroes también eran muy populares.
