COLOMBIA: Neva Lallemand «Reflections of the coastal woman»

El Museo Romántico de Barranquilla, en colaboración con la Fundación Neva Lallemand, inauguró el jueves 16 de mayo la exposición «Reflejos de la mujer costeña: La obra de Neva Lallemand», un homenaje a una de las figuras más destacadas del arte y la cultura del Caribe colombiano.

The Romantic Museum of Barranquilla, in collaboration with the Neva Lallemand Foundation, inaugurated on Thursday, May 16, the exhibition «Reflections of the coastal woman: The work of Neva Lallemand», a tribute to one of the most outstanding figures of art and culture of the Colombian Caribbean.

Neva Lallemand de Mercado, nacida en 1928 en Puerto Colombia- Atlántico, dejó una huella imborrable en el panorama artístico y cultural de Colombia. En 1949, se convirtió en una de las primeras mujeres en graduarse de la Escuela de Bellas Artes de la Universidad del Atlántico, obteniendo el Título de Idoneidad en Artes Plásticas. Su formación artística, influenciada por el maestro Alejandro Obregón, le permitió desarrollar un estilo único que capturaba la esencia de su tierra natal.

Neva Lallemand de Mercado, born in 1928 in Puerto Colombia- Atlántico, left an indelible mark on the artistic and cultural panorama of Colombia. In 1949, she became one of the first women to graduate from the School of Fine Arts of the Universidad del Atlántico, obtaining a Qualification Degree in Plastic Arts. His artistic training, influenced by the teacher Alejandro Obregón, allowed him to develop a unique style that captured the essence of his homeland.

En 1969, con el apoyo de su esposo, Neva Lallemand creó la fundación que lleva su nombre. Esta institución se dedicó a la educación en artes plásticas y ha visto egresar a varias generaciones de atlanticenses, consolidándose como un pilar en la formación artística de la región.

In 1969, with the support of her husband, Neva Lallemand created the foundation that bears her name. This institution was dedicated to education in the plastic arts and has seen several generations of Atlantic citizens graduate, consolidating itself as a pillar in the artistic training of the region.

La obra de Neva Lallemand ha traspasado las fronteras colombianas, siendo expuesta en países como Venezuela, Estados Unidos, Italia, España, Inglaterra y Francia. Su talento y dedicación la hicieron merecedora de numerosos reconocimientos. A lo largo de su carrera, recibió ocho primeros y segundos premios y un sinnúmero de menciones honoríficas a nivel nacional e internacional. Entre sus galardones destacan la Medalla de Honor al Mérito en 1967 y la Condecoración con la Orden Andrés Bello en Venezuela en 1982.

Neva Lallemand’s work has crossed Colombian borders, being exhibited in countries such as Venezuela, the United States, Italy, Spain, England and France. Her talent and dedication earned her numerous recognitions. Throughout his career, he received eight first and second prizes and countless honorable mentions at the national and international level. His awards include the Medal of Honor for Merit in 1967 and the Decoration with the Andrés Bello Order in Venezuela in 1982.

La exposición «Reflejos de la mujer costeña: La obra de Neva Lallemand» se lleva a cabo en el Museo Romántico de Barranquilla y cuenta con una selección de sus obras más representativas. La muestra estará abierta al público hasta el 31 de junio y se espera que atraiga a amantes del arte y defensores de los derechos humanos por igual.
