THE THINKER: THE INEXPLICABLE SILENCE

Autoridades sanitarias argentinas han confirmado la aparición en varias zonas de su país de nuevos casos de corona virus, en variante similar a la ya reportada, por ejemplo, en Estados Unidos y varias naciones europeas. La de todos modos escasa información difundida hasta ahora sugiere que se trata de una variante con escasa mortalidad, menor nivel de hospitalización y consecuencias calificadas “no graves”; sin embargo, al otro lado del Río de la Plata ya se está recomendando la vacunación –no antes de los seis meses de la anterior- y se ha propuesta un programa futuro de ritmo anual.

Argentine health authorities have confirmed the appearance in various areas of their country of new cases of coronavirus, in a variant similar to that already reported, for example, in the United States and several European nations. In any case, the scarce information disseminated up to now suggests that it is a variant with low mortality, a lower level of hospitalization and consequences classified as «non-serious»; however, on the other side of the Río de la Plata, vaccination is already being recommended –not before six months after the previous one- and a future annual program has been proposed.

No es éste un asunto que nos pueda resultar independiente. No sólo por la vecindad con Argentina, sino porque aquí se ha sugerido, y por ahora es una hipótesis sostenida por fuentes confiables, que durante todo este año, detrás de la declarada epidemia de gripe, oficialmente nadie se ha dado por enterado, salvo algunos periodistas. Al momento, ese para mí inexplicable silencio carece de explicación.

This is not a matter that can be independent of us. Not only because of its proximity to Argentina, but because it has been suggested here, and for now it is a hypothesis supported by reliable sources, that throughout this year, behind the declared flu epidemic, nobody has officially taken it for granted, except for a few journalists. At the moment, that inexplicable silence for me lacks an explanation.

Todo conduce, y sólo es mi opinión, a un hecho objetivo, verificable e incluso aludido en recientes declaraciones del doctor Radi, quien encabezó el grupo de especialistas durante la pandemia anterior: superado ese período hubo un claro desapego entre los académicos y personal de la salud, que tanto y tan eficazmente sostuvieron el largo proceso que nos afectó, y las autoridades gubernamentales.

Everything leads, and it is only my opinion, to an objective, verifiable fact and even alluded to in recent statements by Dr. Radi, who headed the group of specialists during the previous pandemic: after that period there was a clear detachment between the academics and staff of the health, which so much and so effectively sustained the long process that affected us, and the government authorities.

No trato de alimentar alarmas infundadas. Pero la hipótesis aludida, al no ser frenada con la palabra oficial, ya va desparramándose y deformándose al ser capturada por las redes sociales.

I’m not trying to feed unfounded alarms. But the aforementioned hypothesis, by not being stopped with the official word, is already spreading and deforming when it is captured by social networks.

Veamos, cual detalle importante, la cuestión de la vacuna. Yo, por edad y enfermedades prevalentes, recibí hasta la quinta dosis; en el proceso, abundaba la información del Ministerio de Salud Pública y del GACH. Luego de transcurrido alrededor de un año, parado frente a una lógica preocupación, no sé nada sobre vacunación, salvo que me coma el sapo de que todo lo arregla la inmunización contra la gripe.

Entre tanto el tiempo sigue pasando y mi inquietud creciendo. Imagino que algo similar sacude el ánimo de muchos otros ciudadanos.

Honestamente, no entiendo la actitud de Salud Pública, única fuente autorizada, supongo, ya que el grupo de especialistas que anteriormente asumió la responsabilidad, ya no existe.

Honestly, I do not understand the attitude of Public Health, the only authoritative source, I suppose, since the group of specialists that previously assumed responsibility no longer exists.

Nadie puede hacerse el distraído. Y si la hipótesis que sigue sobrevolando, y distorsionándose para complicar más las cosas, no es desmentida –o, admitámoslo, confirmada pero sobre datos certeros, confiable- no se necesita mucho ingenio para imaginar la agitación social.

Así las cosas, hay otro hecho que no hace sino reforzar las teorías inquietantes: el uso del tapabocas; abundan las personas que por su propia decisión han vuelto a usarlo, aunque la obligación de hacerlo se reduce a las instalaciones hospitalarias, porque ya ni en las farmacias o en comercios con gran concentración de público se exige. Una enorme paradoja. ¿Acaso una enorme contradicción alimentada por quienes debieran orientar a la gente?

Thus, there is another fact that only reinforces the disturbing theories: the use of the mask; There are many people who have used it again by their own decision, although the obligation to do so is reduced to hospital facilities, because it is no longer required in pharmacies or in shops with a large concentration of public. A huge paradox. Perhaps a huge contradiction fed by those who should guide people?

Es perentorio que el Ministerio competente, o quien decida el Poder Ejecutivo que lo represente, se hagan oír.
