BOLIVIAN WRITERS FAILED TO UNIFY UNDER DEMOCRACY

En una entrevista con la escritora Jackeline Barriga Nava organizadora del I Congreso de Escritores en Literatura de Bolivia y como ex vicepresidente de la Sociedad de Escritores de Bolivia (SODESBO) en la finalización de este evento del cual hacemos seguimiento, expresa un sentimiento agrio, porque en el congreso no lograron unificarse democráticamente “como mencioné en una entrevista anterior, sino logramos la unión de los escritores será por la mezquindad de los propios escritores, y así fue”.

In an interview with writer Jackeline Barriga Nava, organizer of the 1st Congress of Writers in Literature of Bolivia and former vice president of the Writers Society of Bolivia (SODESBO), she expressed a bitter feeling about the conclusion of this event, which we have been following. According to her, they were unable to unify democratically «as I mentioned in a previous interview, if we fail to achieve the unity of writers, it will be due to the small-mindedness of the writers themselves, and that’s what happened.»

El objetivo del congreso fue unir a todos los escritores de Bolivia y formar una mesa directiva en beneficio del sector, Barriga expresa que organizó con mucha ética el congreso y para la elección optó en proponer dos opciones 1) escoger en ese momento (a dedo) 2) escoger por procesos debido a la FALTA DE QUORUM, porque estaban presentes en el día de la elección solo 50 escritores aproximadamente, se tuvieron que retirar y muchos no pudieron concurrir por limitaciones económicas, laborales y de salud, por tal motivo lo correcto era realizar la votación electrónica, cuyo proceso fue sugerencia de los mismos escritores que no asistieron, además hubiera servido para conocer propuestas, perfiles, cronogramas de los frentes, otros. Sobre el tema, la actual mesa directiva culpabiliza a la organización, en vez de ser éticos y observar la deficiencia legal del quorum.

The objective of the congress was to unite all the writers in Bolivia and form a board of directors for the benefit of the sector. Barriga states that he organized the congress with great ethics and for the election, he opted to propose two options: 1) choose in that moment (by hand) 2) choose through processes due to the LACK OF QUORUM, because only about 50 writers were present on the day of the election, many had to leave and many others could not attend due to economic, work, and health limitations. For this reason, it was correct to carry out the electronic voting, a process suggested by the same writers who did not attend. It would have also served to learn about proposals, profiles, schedules of the different fronts, among other things. Regarding the issue, the current board of directors blames the organization instead of being ethical and acknowledging the legal deficiency of the quorum.

Sin embargo, la autora denuncia que un grupo de escritores exigió de manera desordenada y agresiva realizarlo en ese momento, porque ya tenían todo arreglado y fueron con su grupo de choque para que salgan los amigotes de siempre. El presidente fue René Rivera Miranda, el vicepresidente René Aguilera Fierro, el Secretario de Actas Esteban Rada y el Tesorero Francisco Medina. Tomaron las más importantes carteras con el apoyo del ex presidente de SODESBO, Edmundo Torrejón, quien apoyó de manera desleal en la organización del congreso.

However, the author denounces that a group of writers demanded disorderly and aggressively to carry it out at that moment because they already had everything arranged and they went with their shock group so that the usual cronies come out. The president was René Rivera Miranda, the vice president René Aguilera Fierro, the Secretary of Minutes Esteban Rada, and the Treasurer Francisco Medina. They took the most important positions with the support of the former president of SODESBO, Edmundo Torrejón, who supported them disloyally in the organization of the congress.

En un video que muestra a nuestro corresponsal, se observa el agravio del ex presidente Edmundo Torrejón, quien interrumpe de manera torpe a la organizadora del evento, rompiendo el orden del programa para ejercer una votación ilegal de «levantar manos», imponiendo que se haga la elección en ese momento, lo que lleva a cortar la emisión del evento. Barriga califica ese hecho como vergonzoso, porque después fue peor (adjunta enlace al final de la nota).

In a video that shows our correspondent, we observe the outrage of former president Edmundo Torrejón, who clumsily interrupts the event organizer, disrupting the program’s order to carry out an illegal «show of hands» vote, imposing that the election be held at that moment, which leads to the broadcast of the event being cut off. Barriga describes this incident as shameful because it got worse afterwards (attach link at the end of the note).

En el proceso de elección, existieron muchas irregularidades. Por ejemplo, el presidente del presidio, al que Barriga califica como «el contador de manos levantadas», computaba sin control. Incluso hubo personas que votaron dos e incluso tres veces. En los medios de prensa, el vicepresidente actual acusa a la organización de maniobras de prorroguismo y reelección (adjunto el enlace al final de la nota). Barriga afirma que propusieron su nombre para presidente, pero lo rechazó frente a todos. «Mienten por envidia», dice, «porque estos señores, en 30 años de dirigencia, nunca hicieron lo que yo hice SOLA EN 3 MESES: un congreso con impacto social, una base de datos de casi 400 escritores de distintas organizaciones y sectores rurales y urbanos de los 9 departamentos de Bolivia, los cuales estaban dispuestos a participar en la elección de su mesa directiva.»

In the election process, there were many irregularities. For example, the president of the assembly, whom Barriga refers to as «the hand-raising counter,» was tallying votes without any control. There were even people who voted two or even three times. In the media, the current vice president accuses the organization of maneuvers for prolonging their term and seeking re-election (I have attached the link at the end of the article). Barriga claims that they proposed her name for president, but she rejected it in front of everyone. «They lie out of envy,» she says, «because these gentlemen, in 30 years of leadership, never did what I did ALONE IN 3 MONTHS: a congress with social impact, a database of nearly 400 writers from different organizations and rural and urban sectors of the 9 departments of Bolivia, who were willing to participate in the election of their board of directors.»

Sin embargo, Barriga puso la piedra fundamental para el empiezo de la unión de los escritores de su país, las dirigencias antidemocráticas no duran toda la vida, y ésta desaparecerá por su propio peso.

However, Barriga laid the foundation for the beginning of the union of writers in his country, undemocratic leaderships do not last a lifetime, and this one will disappear on its own.

La corrupción, manipulación y LA VIEJA ROSCA prevalecen en casi todos los sectores. Somos el reflejo de una sociedad carente de liderazgo, ética y respeto, incluso propio. Parte de la intelectualidad boliviana se encuentra en crisis. No se trata de hacer quedar mal a los escritores en literatura de Bolivia, al contrario, es nuestro deber con este tipo de acciones reflexionar, aprender de nuestros errores y mejorar desde las esferas en las que participamos, expresó.

Corruption, manipulation, and the old clique prevail in almost every sector. We are a reflection of a society lacking in leadership, ethics, and self-respect. Part of Bolivia’s intellectual elite is in crisis. It is not about trying to discredit Bolivian writers in literature, on the contrary, it is our duty with these types of actions to reflect, learn from our mistakes, and strive for improvement in the spheres in which we participate, stated.
