Faruk Gandji nacido Nishapur, Irán, es ciudadano francés, educado en Suiza e Inglaterra. Artista, director creativo y ex bróker de bolsa residente en España que en los ochenta abandonó su carrera profesional como bróker en Ginebra para convertirse en el alma mater de algunas de las fiestas más emblemáticas celebradas en KU (hoy Privilege) y Amnesia, ambas de fama mundial gracias a la gran diversidad de las fiestas que ofrecían, su música emblemática y la gente asombrosa y sorprendente que acudía a estas… Faruk, vio nacer a la Eivissa que se convirtió en un icono de la noche, del ocio, de la diversión y de la libertad.

Faruk Gandji born Nishapur, Iran, is a French citizen, educated in Switzerland and England. Faruk, era muy pequeño cuando sus padres lo llevaron a Mallorca en donde solia pasar sus vacaciones de verano por la década de los 60 y 70. Ya pasado el tiempo y al sentirse siempre en Las Islas Baleares (oficialmente en catalán, Illes Balears) como en casa es cuando decide viajar a Eivissa en 1981, dando comienzo así a ese su gran romance amoroso con la isla, su trocito de cielo en la tierra. Siendo, que en la primera vez que va a Eivissa, Faruk dirigía una firma de brockers de Inversión en Suiza sin embargo muy pronto comienza a organizar fiestas y concursos de gran relevancia y emvergadura por lo que se vio obligado a compaginar su carrera de Bróker de Mercados durante los inviernos en Ginebra y de Maestro de Ceremonias durante los veranos en Eivissa.

Faruk was very young when his parents took him to Mallorca where he used to spend his summer vacations in the 60s and 70s. Time passed and the Balearic Islands (officially in Catalan, Illes Balears) always felt like home when he decided to travel to Eivissa in 1981, thus beginning his great love affair with the island, his little piece of heaven in the earth.

El documental que a continuación compartiremos, lleva por título Ecstasy & Agony el mismo que fue grabado en el 2021 de febrero a noviembre (año en el que celebraba su 40 aniversario en Ibiza). Faruk pasó 8 meses de filmación y 4 de edición de imágenes que lo dicen todo como la belleza de sus campos frente a la masificación y proliferación de la venta ambulante en Ses Salines, paisajes vírgenes y solitarios frente a la basura en el mar así como el excesivo turismo náutico que muchas veces va en contra del ecosistema, las casetas de pescadores frente a las barcas de Formentera repletas de turistas para pasar un día en la isla, sin olvidar imágenes tan precarias como la de colas de hambre (gente que duerme en las calles o la lucha constante de los vecinos de los Apartamentos etc) que podremos apreciar…. Documentando así lo que consideró el éxtasis de la isla: la hermosa y aún bien conservada belleza natural con su encanto ibicenco, y por otro lado la agonía, que se hace manifiesto en la reciente pandemia, el turismo de masas, la construcción salvaje y la destrucción resultante que, sin duda, conduce a la desaparición de este lugar especial a lo que él mismo añade: “El año 2021 fue el peor año que he presenciado en la isla hasta el momento, especialmente en contraste con los años dorados de la isla”.

De hecho el nombre de Ecstasy & Agonía supone un guiño a la novela que escribiera Irving Stone, (escritor estadounidense conocido por sus novelas biográficas de famosas personalidades históricas). En este caso, esta novela se refiere a la figura del gran escultor y pintor del Renacimiento: Miguel Ángel.

Nos encontramos frente a un proyecto en el que Faruk Gandji observó «pobreza extrema, contaminación y malestar social» que coincidía con la llegada de mega yates, aviones privados y riquezas insondables. Un proyecto que como el mismo explica, en un reconocido medio de prensa Español, que lo realizó motivado por el impulso de contar la Historia de Ibiza desde otra perspectiva diferente a la que aparece en buena parte de los medios de comunicación. Según Faruk, lamentablemente muchos turistas hoy en día “llegan, destruyen el paisaje y dejan a la población residente en la miseria”. apreciación muy tomada en cuenta además en indistintos puntos importantes del Mundo así como en las Organizaciones Internacionales del Turismo en donde ya tienen conocimiento de que esto viene sucediendo en vez de un Turismo Sustentable y Sostenible en donde debe primar el respeto por el entorno y su vida en fauna y flora.
