COLOMBIA: STATEMENT BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC AFTER SUFFERING AN ATTACK

El día de ayer 25 de Junio el Presidente de la República de Colombia, Iván Duque Márquez, en Cúcuta dió la siguiente declaración:

Yesterday, June 25, the President of the Republic of Colombia, Iván Duque Márquez, in Cúcuta gave the following statement:

.."Quiero informarle al país que luego de cumplir un compromiso en Sardinata, en el Catatumbo colombiano, y aproximándonos a aterrizar a la ciudad de Cúcuta, el helicóptero presidencial fue víctima de un atentado.
Nos encontrábamos en el helicóptero el señor Ministro de la Defensa, el Ministro del Interior, el Gobernador de Norte de Santander y mi persona.
Tanto el dispositivo aéreo, como la capacidad de la aeronave, evitaron que ocurriera algo letal. 
Lo cierto es que es un atentado cobarde, donde se ven impactos de bala a la aeronave presidencial.
Una vez, más reiteramos que como Gobierno no vamos a desfallecer un solo minuto, un solo día en la lucha contra el narcotráfico, contra el terrorismo y contra los organismos de criminalidad organizada que operan en el país.
Quiero, una vez más, reiterar ese mensaje. Aquí no nos amedrentan con violencia, ni nos amedrentan con actos de terrorismo. 
Nuestro Estado es fuerte y Colombia es fuerte para enfrentar estas amenazas.
Seguiremos trabajando todos los días y demostrando que el Estado hace presencia en cualquier lugar del territorio.
Le he dado instrucciones muy claras, también, a todo el equipo de seguridad de ir detrás de quienes dispararon contra la aeronave y pusieron en riesgo también la vida de otras personas.
Pero el mensaje es que Colombia sigue siempre fuerte enfrentando la criminalidad y nuestras instituciones están por encima de cualquier amenaza.

I want, once again, to reiterate that message. Here they do not intimidate us with violence, nor do they intimidate us with acts of terrorism.
Our State is strong and Colombia is strong to face these threats.
We will continue working every day and demonstrating that the State is present anywhere in the territory.
I have also given very clear instructions to the entire security team to go after those who shot at the aircraft and also put other people's lives at risk.
But the message is that Colombia is always strong in the face of crime and our institutions are above any threat.
