El 4 de abril de 1979, nacía en Perth (Australia) Heath Ledger. Un excelente actor, que tuvo una carrera y vida corta, pero con trabajos indiscutiblemente memorables. Heath tenia solo 28 años cuando falleció. Pocos meses antes de su fallecimiento, Ledger había terminado con la filmación de su penúltimo papel en «The Dark Knight» (Batman: El caballero de la noche).

Más tarde, realizaría una memorable actuación en «The Dark Knight» (2008), película en la que encarnó a un nuevo «Joker» más oscuro y anarquista, en una actuación sencillamente inolvidable.

Traté de meterme en la mente de un psicópata, hacer empatía con alguien que tiene poca consciencia de sus actos y sus consecuencias. Era divertido, no hay límites ni fronteras de lo que dices o cómo lo dices o de lo que haces. El cómo aterrizas en cierto personaje es un proceso muy personal. Fue una combinación de leer todos los cómics que pude, después el guion y luego, cerrar los ojos y meditar cómo hacerle. Desde el primer día que hablamos del proyecto, quedó demostrado que Chris y yo compartimos la misma idea sobre la interpretación del personaje. Teníamos imágenes idénticas en la cabeza. I locked myself in a London hotel for almost a whole month, kept a diary, experimented with new voices. I tried to get into the mind of a psychopath, to empathize with someone who has little awareness of his actions and their consequences. It was fun, there are no limits or boundaries to what you say or how you say it or what you do. How you land on a certain character is a very personal process. It was a combination of reading all the comics I could, then the script, and then closing my eyes and thinking about how to do it. From the first day we talked about the project, it was clear that Chris and I shared the same idea about the interpretation of the character. We had identical images in our heads.
