COLOMBIA: «A Jewel in Plain Sight»

En esta ocasión mi deseo de conocer lo que esconde la historia de esta ciudad llamada Barranquilla, me permitió descubrir un encantador rincón. 

On this occasion my desire to know what the history of this city called Barranquilla hides, allowed me to discover a charming corner.

Y es que en pleno centro del tradicional barrio el  prado,  se alza el Centro Cultural Comfamiliar Atlántico, un refugio cultural que abraza a sus visitantes con la calidez de la literatura. Al adentrarme en este recinto  descubrí una de sus  joyas,  que,  a nivel personal,  me fascinó… te hablo de su biblioteca. 

And in the heart of the traditional El Prado neighborhood stands the Centro Cultural Comfamiliar Atlántico, a cultural refuge that embraces its visitors with the warmth of literature. Upon entering this enclosure, I discovered one of its jewels, which, on a personal level, fascinated me… I’m telling you about its library.

Fundada en 1980 como un faro de conocimiento, esta biblioteca pública atesora más de 33,800 libros que abarcan diversas temáticas.

Founded in 1980 as a beacon of knowledge, this public library houses more than 33,800 books covering various topics.

Bajo los imponentes pilares de su arquitectura neoclásica, este edificio tiene una historia que se entreteje con los cambios de cada época. 

Under the imposing pillars of its neoclassical architecture, this building has a history that is interwoven with the changes of each era.

En sus primeros días albergó a una destaca familia local, transformándose más tarde en el Centro Cultural de la Asociación de Empleados del Comercio (Adeco).  Sus salones también resonaron  y vibraron con festejos carnestoléndicos antes de cerrar sus puertas al público misteriosamente.  Luego Comfamiliar Atlántico decidió darle una nueva vida , convirtiéndolo en el epicentro del arte y la cultura más moderno de la región. 

In its first days it housed a prominent local family, later becoming the Cultural Center of the Association of Commercial Employees (Adeco). Its halls also resonated and vibrated with carnival celebrations before mysteriously closing their doors to the public. Then Comfamiliar Atlántico decided to give it a new life, turning it into the epicenter of the most modern art and culture in the region.

No se puede negar la riqueza cultural que abraza esta obra, ya que en  el  instante en que mis pasos cruzaron el umbral, el aire se impregnó con el irresistible aroma de los libros y ese  perfume intelectual que acaricia los sentidos. Aquí, en medio de estantes repletos de sabiduría, la paz se entrelaza con cada página que espera ser descubierta.

The cultural richness that this work embraces cannot be denied, since the moment my steps crossed the threshold, the air was filled with the irresistible aroma of books and that intellectual perfume that caresses the senses. Here, amidst shelves full of wisdom, peace is intertwined with each page waiting to be discovered.

Cada rincón de este lugar cuenta una historia, desde los volúmenes clásicos hasta las obras contemporáneas, caminar en medio de esa estantería era  como transitar por  diferentes universos al alcance de una mirada.  

Every corner of this place tells a story, from classic volumes to contemporary works, walking in the middle of that bookshelf was like traveling through different universes within reach of a glance.

Las palabras se vuelven cómplices de sueños, y el silencio se convierte en el mejor compañero de quienes buscan refugio en la complicidad  y seducción de una buena  lectura.

Words become accomplices of dreams, and silence becomes the best companion of those who seek refuge in the complicity and seduction of a good reading.

En este remanso cultural, el tiempo se desvanece, y el presente se funde con las narrativas que aguardan ser desentrañadas.

In this cultural haven, time fades, and the present merges with narratives waiting to be unraveled.

El Centro Cultural Comfamiliar Atlántico no solo es un edificio; es un crisol de imaginación y creatividad. Sus paredes resguardan no solo libros, sino también el eco de risas de niños descubriendo mundos entre páginas y el susurro de pensadores que han encontrado aquí su santuario.

The Atlántico Comfamiliar Cultural Center is not only a building; It is a melting pot of imagination and creativity. Its walls protect not only books, but also the echo of laughter of children discovering worlds between pages and the whisper of thinkers who have found their sanctuary here.

Este rincón inspirador invita a perderse en la contemplación de letras y a sumergirse en el vasto océano de conocimiento que ofrece. Así, entre las calles de esta ciudad llena de carnaval y alegría, hallé un oasis donde el alma se nutre de literatura acompañada de nuestra historia y nuestra cultura. 

This inspiring corner invites you to lose yourself in the contemplation of letters and immerse yourself in the vast ocean of knowledge it offers. Thus, among the streets of this city full of carnival and joy, I found an oasis where the soul is nourished by literature accompanied by our history and our culture.
