Tribute to Encarnación Fernández

Ola de calor a tope incluso a la sombra. Todo sea por estar presente en el mayor homenaje otorgado a Encarnación Fernández hasta la fecha por la presidencia de la Fundación del Cante de las Minas.

Full heat wave even in the shade. Everything is for being present at the greatest tribute granted to Encarnación Fernández to date by the presidency of the Fundación del Cante de las Minas.

En el Parque Urbanización Ribera de Golf de La Unión, frente a la residencia de la histórica cantaora de cantes mineros, se ha descubierto una placa que transforma el nombre en Parque de Encarnación Fernández.

In the Parque Urbanización Ribera de Golf de La Unión, in front of the residence of the historic singer of cantes mineros, a plaque has been discovered that transforms the name into Parque de Encarnación Fernández.

Emoción al máximo, con inevitable lagrimita de la veterana cantaora, acompañada en el solemne acto por toda su familia y la corporación municipal, prensa gráfica y algún que otro redactor. Poca gente, más ausencias que presencias, pero allí estábamos los que teníamos y queríamos estar.

Emotion to the max, with inevitable tears from the veteran cantaora, accompanied in the solemn ceremony by her entire family and the municipal corporation, print media and the occasional editor. Few people, more absences than presences, but the ones we had and wanted to be were there.

En palabras del Presidente de la Fundación, Joaquín Zapata, este es un acto de justicia, y lo es, pero creemos que la cantaora esencia de los cantes mineros, única mujer con dos Lámparas Mineras, merece que la edición 63 del Festival instituya un Premio Encarnación Fernández como reconocimiento y empoderamiento de la mujer cantaora en particular, y de la mujer en general, como contrapunto al Premio Pencho Cros. Ese sí será el acto de justicia total con Encarnación, la mujer más premiada de la historia de este concurso de rango internacional; y no solo por ella, también por La Unión, porque ese premio enriquecerá la tradición e historia del Cante de las Minas. Sugerencia lanzada, querido Joaquín Zapata.

In the words of the President of the Foundation, Joaquín Zapata, this is an act of justice, and it is, but we believe that the essence cantaora of mining songs, the only woman with two Mining Lamps, deserves that the 63rd edition of the Festival establish an Award Encarnación Fernández as recognition and empowerment of female singers in particular, and of women in general, as a counterpoint to the Pencho Cros Award. That will be the act of total justice with Encarnación, the most awarded woman in the history of this international-rank contest; and not only for her, but also for La Unión, because this award will enrich the tradition and history of Cante de las Minas. Quiero también añadir aquí a las emociones de nuestra veterana cantaora la mención a las tres mujeres cantaoras que han intervenido en las galas de esta 62 edición del Festival y que han hecho bandera de sus actuaciones a nuestra admirada y querida Encarnación Fernández: Marina Heredia, Carmen Linares Premio Princesa de Asturias 2022 y Estrella Morente. Tres grandes, que han querido rendir homenaje a la más grande de los cantes mineros.

I would also like to add here to the emotions of our veteran cantaora the mention of the three female cantaoras who have taken part in the galas of this 62nd edition of the Festival and who have made our admired and beloved Encarnación Fernández the flagship of their performances: Marina Heredia, Carmen Linares Princess of Asturias Award 2022 and Estrella Morente. Para que no le faltara nada a este día de emociones de Encarnación Fernández, por la noche, en la Plaza del Flamenco, frente al Antiguo Mercado referente de sus triunfos, acompañada por su marido y su hermana María Fernández, tuve el honor de entregarle un ejemplar de mi libro FLAMENCOS Conversaciones con artistas, en el que ella es una destacada protagonista. Llevaba esperando este momento desde la fecha de su publicación en 2021, pero entre avatares pandémicos y algún otro el año pasado, no había podido estar presente en este festival que empecé a divulgar en 2015 hasta esta edición, incluso en ausencia.

So that nothing was missing from this day of emotions for Encarnación Fernández, at night, in the Plaza del Flamenco, in front of the Old Market, a reference to her triumphs, accompanied by her husband and her sister María Fernández, I had the honor of presenting her with a copy of my book FLAMENCOS Conversations with artists, in which she is an outstanding protagonist. I had been waiting for this moment since the date of its publication in 2021, but between pandemic vicissitudes and some other last year, I had not been able to be present at this festival that I began to promote in 2015 until this edition, even in absentia.

Fue otro momento de emoción para nuestra ilustre cantaora en el mismo día y así me lo manifestó con un abrazo y un par de lágrimas humedeciendo sus hermosos ojos gitanos. Y un honor para mí.

It was another moment of emotion for our illustrious cantaora on the same day and she expressed it to me with a hug and a couple of tears wetting her beautiful gypsy eyes. And an honor for me.

Como dijo durante el acto de la mañana Joaquín Zapata: Los homenajes hay que hacerlos en vida, para que, en este caso la homenajeada los disfrute.

As Joaquín Zapata said during the morning ceremony: Tributes must be made while he is alive, so that, in this case, the honoree can enjoy them.
