Se notan y mucho los cambios en los criterios de programación de la edición 2023 en la Casa del Piñón. Se nota que el nuevo presidente del festival como alcalde de La Unión, Joaquín Zapata García, es desde hace años un estudioso y divulgador de la esencia de los cantes mineros en particular y del arte jondo en general. Reconocido por quienes lo conocen bien como buena persona, – así en primer lugar – con gran sensibilidad. Llega con la difícil tarea de lograr un revival del en los últimos años languideciente mejor festival flamenco del mundo. Algo que ya se percibe por varias vías.

The changes in the programming criteria for the 2023 edition at Casa del Piñón are evident. It is clear that the new festival president and mayor of La Unión, Joaquín Zapata García, has been a scholar and promoter of the essence of flamenco singing, especially the cantes mineros (mining songs) and deep artistic expression in general. Known by those who know him well as a kind-hearted person, he brings great sensitivity to the role. Mayor rigor en las bases del concurso para que lleguen a semifinales los mejores con objeto de recuperar el prestigio de los premios; reconocimientos a medios, a otros festivales, escritores, fotógrafos, incluso a diplomáticos. Tiene sabor especial el premio al Corral de la Morería, no solo por plenamente merecido, sino como reparación a un desdichado incidente en la edición anterior; reconocimiento a unionenses sabios e inmersos desde siempre en la historia y arte mineros, incomprensiblemente ninguneados, como Paco Paredes y su padre el cantaor Niño Alfonso, que por fin tendrá su calle en La Unión. Y más que ya iremos viendo.

Strict adherence to the competition rules to ensure that only the best reach the semifinals, in order to restore the prestige of the awards; acknowledgments to media outlets, other festivals, writers, photographers, and even diplomats. The award for Corral de la Morería holds a special significance, not only because it is fully deserved, but also as a reparation for an unfortunate incident in the previous edition. Recognition for wise locals from La Unión who have always been immersed in the history and art of mining, inexplicably overlooked, like Paco Paredes and his father, the singer Niño Alfonso, who will finally have a street named after him in La Unión. Las veladas de gala en el Antiguo Mercado , del 3 al 8 de agosto, contarán con Guadiana y Pedro Ojesto Trío; la Gala de Ganadores del concurso 2022; Marina Heredia en concierto; una doble gala el domingo, primero con Polito presentando «Y tú» y luego la gran Carmen Linares con sus «Cuarenta años de flamenco»; el lunes, Los Vivancos; y como broche final de las galas del martes la polifacética Estrella Morente en Concierto.

The evening galas at the Old Market, from August 3rd to 8th, will feature Guadiana and Pedro Ojesto Trio; the Winners Gala of the 2022 competition; Concert Gala by Marina Heredia; a double gala on Sunday, first with Polito presenting «Y tú» and then the great Carmen Linares with her Forty years of flamenco; on Monday, Los Vivancos; and as the final highlight of the galas on Tuesday the multifaceted Estrella Morente in Concert.

Las noches del 9 al 11 de agosto actuación eliminatoria de los finalistas de esta edición y la noche del 12 como de costumbre será la gran noche de la finalísima con los premiados de la 62 edición de este festival/concurso.

Hay más eventos, como la Misa Minera anual, cantada por Encarnación Fernández acompañada a la guitarra por su hijo Antonio Muñoz el 3 de agosto en una parroquia unionense. Y desde el viernes 28 de julio, en el icónico restaurante El Vinagrero la exposición de pinturas de la artista unionense Antonia Esther Martínez, Bodegones cantantes y sonantes.

La Fundación Cante de las Minas invita a la presentación de la revista «Lámpara Minera», publicación oficial del Festival Internacional Cante de las Minas, el próximo jueves 3 de agosto a la una de la tarde en el Salón de Actos de la Casa del Piñón.
