COLOMBIA: CARTAGENA DE INDIAS – 490 YEARS OF HISTORY (June 1, 1533)

En Colombia, este 01 de junio del 2023 Cartagena de Indias, nuestra reliquia histórica y fantástica ciudad cumple 490 años de su fundación, por el conquistador español Pedro de Heredia, esta enigmática ciudad a la que llamo Cartagena del Poniente para diferenciarla de Cartagena del Levante en España, al principio era habitada por los indios Calamari de la tribu Karib, se convirtió en el principal puerto de la región y en un punto clave para el embarque de las riquezas que provenían del Perú.

In Colombia, this June 1, 2023 Cartagena de Indias, our historical relic and fantastic city celebrates 490 years of its foundation, by the Spanish conquistador Pedro de Heredia, this enigmatic city that I call Cartagena del Poniente to differentiate it from Cartagena del Levante In Spain, at first it was inhabited by the Calamari Indians of the Karib tribe, it became the main port of the region and a key point for the shipment of the riches that came from Peru.

Esto para su gloria y desgracia la ventaja de ser puerto y bahía la convirtieron en el fortín donde se guardaban los tesoros de América, para ser enviados a Europa. Piratas, corsarios, ladrones provenientes de países con poderío militar como Francia, Inglaterra e Italia la hicieron blanco de sus ataques y asedios permanentes buscando sus riquezas, sus diecinueves kilómetros de murallas, con muros de 15 metros de espesor por 12 de altura, pegados con cal y sangre de toro, se terminaron de construir en 1631 y que protegieron los tesoros de la corona de mas de 18 episodios bélicos y fuego.

Desde 1985 esta ciudad fue declarada por la UNESCO Patrimonio Histórico Artístico y cultura de la humanidad se ha convertido en la primera ciudad turística de Colombia visitada por turistas de todo el mundo por el esplendor de su centro histórico, su arquitectura militar y naval, fortificaciones, iglesias y conventos, la hacen una de la ciudad más deseada de visitar.

Since 1985 this city was declared by UNESCO Historical Artistic Heritage and culture of humanity, it has become the first tourist city in Colombia visited by tourists from all over the world for the splendor of its historic center, its military and naval architecture, fortifications, churches and convents, make it one of the most desired cities to visit.

El 11 de noviembre de 1811 la ciudad declaro su independencia absoluta de la corona española, convirtiéndose en un símbolo de LIBERTAD Y RESISTENCIA.
