COLOMBIA: A CALL TO SANITY AND DIALOGUE IN SANTA MARTA

Diversas opiniones han surgido en la ciudad de Santa Marta luego de los hechos del pasado lunes en el que incitados por falsos líderes, algunos miembros del gremio de mototaxistas participaron en los desórdenes acaecidos el pasado lunes en varios sectores de la urbe.

Various opinions have emerged in the city of Santa Marta after the events of last Monday in which, incited by false leaders, some members of the motorcycle taxi drivers’ union participated in the disorders that occurred last Monday in various sectors of the city.

Estos hechos originaron el caos en las principales calles de Santa Marta y la Central de Transporte, ocasionando pérdidas económicas a un considerable número de comerciantes, que se vieron obligados a cerrar sus negocios para así evitar daños materiales. Debido a estos hechos la alcaldesa de Santa Marta, Virna Johnson, procedió a instaurar la correspondiente denuncia penal ante la Fiscalía para que se investigue, como lo manda la Ley, todas estas acciones vandálicas que no persiguen otra cosa que subvertir el orden público en la ciudad.

These events caused chaos in the main streets of Santa Marta and the Central de Transporte, causing economic losses to a considerable number of merchants, who were forced to close their businesses in order to avoid material damage. Due to these events, the mayor of Santa Marta, Virna Johnson, proceeded to file the corresponding criminal complaint with the Prosecutor’s Office to investigate, as required by law, all these acts of vandalism that seek nothing more than to subvert public order in the city.

Es necesario que intervengan las autoridades competentes para así evitar la ocurrencia de todos aquellos actos que no persiguen algo diferente a sabotear a la actual administración, teniendo en cuenta la presencia de falsos líderes que se involucraron y hasta son los ideólogos de todos estos hechos vandálicos que han recibido el rechazo de la ciudadanía samaria.  

It is necessary for the competent authorities to intervene in order to avoid the occurrence of all those acts that do not pursue something other than sabotaging the current administration, taking into account the presence of false leaders who were involved and are even the ideologues of all these acts of vandalism that they have received the rejection of Samaria citizenship.

La alcaldesa Virna Johnson se dirigió personalmente ante la Fiscalía General de la Nación para interponer una denuncia en contra de aquellas personas que lideraron los actos de vandalismo y violencia durante la protesta que se realizó el pasado lunes.

Mayor Virna Johnson personally addressed the Attorney General’s Office to file a complaint against those who led the acts of vandalism and violence during the protest that took place last Monday.

Según la mandataria distrital, detrás de estos hechos que generaron pánico y alteraron el orden público hay opositores políticos que se disfrazan de líderes del gremio para afectar la gestión de su gobierno sin tener en cuenta las graves consecuencias que le están generando a la imagen de la ciudad, que al parecer es lo que persiguen los integrantes de estos grupos de revoltosos que actúan bajo la orientación de estos promotores de los desórdenes acaecidos en varios sectores de Santa Marta, cuya finalidad es desestabilizar la ciudad.

According to the district president, behind these events that generated panic and altered public order, there are political opponents who disguise themselves as leaders of the union to affect the management of their government without taking into account the serious consequences that they are generating for the image of the city, which apparently is what the members of these groups of rioters who act under the guidance of these promoters of the disorders that have occurred in various sectors of Santa Marta, whose purpose is to destabilize the city, are pursuing.

Ante estos hechos la alcaldesa se vio en la imperiosa necesidad de acudir a la Fiscalía General de Nación para solicitar que este ente acusador avance en dicha  investigación con la consabida individualización de todos aquellos que violentando la normatividad vigente lideraron los ataques a los bienes públicos y privados y que causaron momentos de pánico con amenazas a comerciantes y a la población en general.

Given these facts, the mayor felt the urgent need to go to the Attorney General’s Office to request that this accusing entity advance in said investigation with the usual individualization of all those who, violating current regulations, led the attacks on public and private property. and that caused moments of panic with threats to merchants and the population in general.

La alcaldesa Virna Johnson recalcó que, si bien es cierto que su gobierno respeta la protesta pacífica, no es menos cierto seguirá rechazando de manera contundente todos aquellos actos que perturben la tranquilidad de los samarios y generen caos como ocurrió el pasado lunes, actos que causaron zozobra entre la comunidad la cual rechaza estos  reprochables hechos desde cualquier ángulo que se le mire, no obstante los invitó al diálogo y la concertación.

Mayor Virna Johnson stressed that, although it is true that her government respects peaceful protest, it is no less true that it will continue to strongly reject all those acts that disturb the tranquility of the samariums and generate chaos as happened last Monday, acts that caused anxiety among the community which rejects these reprehensible facts from any angle that you look at it, despite inviting them to dialogue and agreement.

Igualmente la mandataria informó que está dispuesta a seguir con la conformación de mesas de diálogos, los representantes de mototaxistas legalmente asociados no reconocen como tales a varios de los sujetos que aparecieron liderando la movilización en contra del decreto contentivo de algunas restricciones que comenzaron a regir en Santa Marta.

Likewise, the president informed that she is willing to continue with the formation of dialogue tables, the representatives of legally associated motorcycle taxi drivers do not recognize as such several of the subjects who appeared leading the mobilization against the decree containing some restrictions that began to govern in Santa Marta.

La alcaldesa manifestó con toda claridad que respetará el derecho a la protesta siempre que esta se ciña a la normatividad que rige esta materia y que está dispuesta al diálogo y que en su administración se continuará socializando con los verdaderos representantes del gremio las medidas contempladas en el decreto.

The mayor clearly stated that she will respect the right to protest as long as it adheres to the regulations that govern this matter and that she is willing to dialogue and that her administration will continue to socialize with the true representatives of the union the measures contemplated in the decree.
