La noche de hoy, jueves 30 de septiembre, el escenario de luz del ICÓNICA Sevilla Fest se abrirá a la potencia rítmica del grupo francés, bandera de la rumba catalana: los Gipsy Kings. A partir de las 22:00 horas los fans de esta formación musical francesa, con orígenes/tintes españoles, disfrutarán del peculiar estilo que los caracteriza, en una consagrada mezcla entre flamenco, pop y rumba catalana. Gipsy Kings es toda una leyenda musical con más de tres décadas de éxitos sobre el escenario. Entre las columnas de la grandiosa Plaza de España sonarán algunos de los temas más representativos de esta banda, como “Bamboleo” , “Volare” o “Djobi Djoba”, entre muchos otros.

Gipsy Kings, con más de tres décadas de éxitos, es una leyenda de la rumba fusionada con el pop y el flamenco, creando un estilo propio e inconfundible. Es un grupo de flamenco-rumba procedente de Arles y Montpellier (Francia) formado por dos bandas de hermanos: los Reyes: Nicolás, Canut, Paul, Patchaï y Andrés, y los Baliardos: Tonino, Paco y Diego, primos y descendientes de familias españolas que emigraron a Francia. Están considerados ‘padres del mestizaje musical’, pioneros en la fusión de guitarra flamenca y rumba catalana con pop, rock y sonidos de África y Latinoamérica. Siendo adolescentes, Nicolas, Canut y Paul Reyes acompañaban a su padre, José Reyes, que popularizó el flamenco a escala internacional. Tras la muerte de su progenitor, se unen a los Baliardos y actúan por las calles de Cannes y en bodas y fiestas, incorporando ritmos pop y latinos. Aunque Los Reyes se forman en 1970 no adoptan su actual nombre hasta varios años después, cuando un admirador americano traduce al inglés su apellido: “Los Reyes”- “The Kings”.

Gipsy Kings, with more than three decades of success, is a legend of rumba fused with pop and flamenco, creating his own and unmistakable style. El álbum que les lleva al estrellato y les introduce en el mundo la rumba gitana es “Gips Kings” editado en 1987. El disco incluye su primer gran éxito internacional, el tema “Bamboleo” (versión de la canción folk venezolana «Caballo Viejo»). A continuación, versionan en rumba el tema de Domenico Modugno, “Volare” y fue incluida en su disco “Mosaique”(1989). Este tema hace que el grupo adquiera gran popularidad en Francia, Europa y Oriente Medio. En 1988 “Gipsy Kings” sale en Estados Unidos y permanece 40 semanas en las listas de discos más vendidos.

The album that takes them to stardom and introduces the gypsy rumba to the world is «Gips Kings» released in 1987. Entre sus numerosos logros, se incluye un Grammy Latino en 1993 por “Love and Liberté”, considerado el Mejor Álbum Pop del Año. Su recopilatorio “The Best of the Gipsy Kings» (1995) fue Disco de Platino y permaneció más de un año en las listas. Otros discos como “Allegria” (1990), “Este Mundo” (1991), “Tierra Gitana” (1996), “Cantos de Amor” (1998) y “Volare! – «The Very Best of the Gipsy Kings” (1999) consiguieron ser Disco de Oro.

Para conmemorar el 25º aniversario del álbum que les convirtió en estrellas internacionales, rompen un silencio de siete años y en 2013 lanzan “Savor Flamenco”, el primer disco escrito y producido en su totalidad por la banda de hermanos y primos franceses.

El escenario se convertirá en un majestuoso espectáculo visual, donde los iconos de la música actual se fundirán con esta obra cumbre de Aníbal González, mostrando una visión totalmente desconocida hasta el momento de la misma. Desde el máximo respeto de la organización para con el patrimonio histórico y natural, se ha dado forma al mágico escenario que se instalará para las citas musicales programadas: un escenario totalmente transparente, construido a partir de una estructura abierta, sin telas u otros elementos que distorsionen a la propia Plaza de España, que se convertirá en el escenario y telón de fondo real de cada una de las noches, ofreciendo una fusión de música, patrimonio y cultura a través de una espectacular visión lumínica.
