En representación de La Agencia Mundial de Prensa y la Red de Mujeres Cubanas contra la Violencia, me permito destacar un tema de vital importancia.

On behalf of the World Press Agency and the Cuban Women’s Network against Violence, I would like to highlight a vitally important issue.

Las situaciones extremas en África nos resultan familiares, en parte porque la prensa, con frecuencia, las presenta de manera sensacionalista. En este caso, apartar la mirada y no actuar ante el sufrimiento de estas mujeres, víctimas de violencia, es prácticamente imposible. No quiero contarte el corto semilla de Kivu a través de mis palabras, porque siento que no haría justicia al impacto y la profundidad de la situación. Es un tema tan complejo y devastador que las palabras no son suficientes. Te invito a que veas el documental para que puedas entender la realidad de estas mujeres.

Extreme situations in Africa are familiar to us, partly because the press often presents them in a sensationalist way. In this case, looking the other way and not acting in the face of the suffering of these women victims of violence is practically impossible. I do not want to tell you about the Kivu short film in my own words, because I do not think it would do justice to the impact and depth of the situation. It is such a complex and devastating issue that words are not enough. I invite you to watch the documentary so that you can understand the reality of these women.

La guerra en la región de Kivu ha sido devastadora, no solo por el conflicto bélico en sí, sino también porque los abusos sexuales se han utilizado como una herramienta de guerra para deshumanizar y someter a las personas. Este tipo de violencia no solo destruye vidas, sino que deja cicatrices profundas en las comunidades afectadas. Verlo te permitirá comprender mejor la magnitud de esta tragedia y cómo impacta a las mujeres, quienes son víctimas directas de una violencia sistemática.

The war in the Kivu region has been devastating, not only because of the conflict itself, but also because sexual abuse has been used as a tool of war to dehumanize and subjugate people. This type of violence not only destroys lives, but leaves deep scars in the affected communities. Watching it will allow you to better understand the magnitude of this tragedy and how it impacts women, who are direct victims of systematic violence.

El corto Semillas de Kivu, presentado en la sede del Parlamento Europeo en España, en conmemoración del Día Internacional de la Mujer, fue una propuesta sin duda merecedora de este espacio. Sus directores, Carlos Valle y Néstor López, lograron captar con sensibilidad la realidad de las mujeres de Kivu sin caer en populismo barato.

The short film Semillas de Kivu, presented at the headquarters of the European Parliament in Spain, in commemoration of International Women’s Day, was undoubtedly a proposal worthy of this space. Its directors, Carlos Valle and Néstor López, managed to sensitively capture the reality of the women of Kivu without falling into cheap populism.

Conmovido por el impacto del tema, decidí dirigir mi pregunta a los directores, expresándoles mi deseo de que el presidente Trump pudiera comprender la importancia de proyectos como el del Hospital de Panzi, que dependen en gran medida de la cooperación internacional y podrían verse afectados por decisiones que reduzcan este tipo de ayudas. Los creadores me informaron que harán todo lo posible para que Semillas de Kivu llegue al público estadounidense. Desde ese momento, he mantenido la esperanza de que este documental cause un gran impacto y, ojalá, sea reconocido con un Oscar.

Moved by the impact of the topic, I decided to direct my question to the directors, expressing my hope that President Trump could understand the importance of projects such as the Panzi Hospital, which depend heavily on international cooperation and could be affected by decisions that reduce this type of aid. The creators informed me that they will do everything possible to make Seeds of Kivu reach the American public. Since then, I have maintained the hope that this documentary will make a great impact and, hopefully, will be recognized with an Oscar.

Como fiel defensor de los derechos humanos, apoyo todas las iniciativas que fortalezcan a las mujeres, especialmente a aquellas que han sido víctimas de violencia y abusos. Es fundamental garantizar no solo su seguridad y justicia, sino también brindarles acceso a asistencia psicológica, un pilar esencial en su proceso de recuperación y reconstrucción de sus vidas.

As a staunch defender of human rights, I support all initiatives that strengthen women, especially those who have been victims of violence and abuse. It is essential to guarantee not only their safety and justice, but also to provide them with access to psychological assistance, an essential pillar in their process of recovery and rebuilding their lives.

Es importante resaltar que este trabajo ha sido reconocido con el Premio Goya a Mejor Cortometraje Documental en la 39ª edición de los Premios del Cine Español.

It is important to highlight that this work has been recognized with the Goya Award for Best Documentary Short Film at the 39th edition of the Spanish Film Awards.
