SPAIN: Conference on Labor inclusion of migrants in Córdoba

El pasado 10 de octubre, el Centro Cívico Lepanto de la capital cordobesa acogió la celebración de la Primera Jornada sobre inclusión laboral de migrantes de Latinoamérica y el Caribe, enmarcada dentro del proyecto Erasmus+ Interlac Market, cofinanciado por la Unión Europea.

On October 10, the Lepanto Civic Center in the capital of Córdoba hosted the celebration of the First Conference on labor inclusion of migrants from Latin America and the Caribbean, framed within the Erasmus+ Interlac Market project, co-financed by the European Union.

La jornada organizada por Acción Laboral tuvo como objetivo principal dar a conocer los retos a los que se enfrentan las personas de Latinoamérica y el Caribe al llegar a España, especialmente a la hora de insertarse en el mercado laboral.

The main objective of the conference organized by Acción Laboral was to raise awareness of the challenges that people from Latin America and the Caribbean face when arriving in Spain, especially when entering the labor market.

Para esta jornada se ha contado con la participación de entidades como Cruz Roja, Accem, YMCA, Córdoba Acoge, Indepcie y la Universidad Rovira i Virgili – URV de Tarragona.

Entities such as the Red Cross, Accem, YMCA, Córdoba Acoge, Indepcie and the Rovira i Virgili University – URV of Tarragona have participated in this event.

En dicha jornada, los ponentes de las entidades colaboradoras abordaron temas de máximo interés, entre los cuales cabe mencionar «Buenas prácticas de inclusión de personas migrantes», «La perspectiva de género en las migraciones» y «El fomento de la contratación inclusiva». Los asistentes tuvieron la oportunidad de participar de forma directa y plantear sus preguntas y dudas.

On this day, the speakers from the collaborating entities addressed topics of maximum interest, among which it is worth mentioning «Good practices for the inclusion of migrants», «The gender perspective in migrations» and «The promotion of inclusive hiring». Attendees had the opportunity to participate directly and raise their questions and concerns.

Irene Benito, técnica del proyecto, afirmó: «Dentro de las principales barreras con las que se encuentran las personas migrantes está la homologación de estudios y los largos trámites necesarios para poder desempeñar la profesión, lo que conduce a que estas personas realicen trabajos para los que están sobrecualificados.»

Irene Benito, project technician, stated: «Among the main barriers that migrants encounter are the approval of studies and the long procedures necessary to be able to carry out the profession, which leads to these people doing jobs for the who are overqualified.»

Y respecto a la perspectiva de género, son estas personas las que acaban haciendo trabajos de cuidados de personas mayores, de niños, trabajos de limpieza y hostelería. Es un tema que preocupa dentro de la sociedad española por la cantidad de prejuicios que esto alimenta, puntualizó.

And regarding the gender perspective, it is these people who end up doing work caring for the elderly, caring for children, cleaning and hospitality jobs. It is an issue that worries within Spanish society due to the amount of prejudice that this fuels, he pointed out.

Este evento se enmarca dentro del proyecto europeo Interlac Market, con el cual se pretende abordar el reto de la integración de los migrantes y refugiados de América Latina y el Caribe en el mercado laboral europeo. A través de una formación basada en la investigación, se busca que desarrollen su potencial y se conviertan en miembros activos y productivos de la sociedad.

This event is part of the European project Interlac Market, which aims to address the challenge of integrating migrants and refugees from Latin America and the Caribbean into the European labor market.
