Memory: Ability to remember or the dance of Carmen la Talegona in Flamenco Madrid

Está de moda en los espectáculos de baile flamenco la introspección, la indagación en el propio ser o en la propia vida, o en la raíz y el devenir del flamenco o en el de la familia. No hay espectáculo de baile que no haya visto este año y parte del pasado, en que no se hable de este mirar hacia adentro. Se ve que tuvo éxito la trilogía de Ana Morales, pionera en indagaciones. A veces la introspección se ve justificada en el espectáculo, otras no tanto. Pero en la capacidad de recordar de este estreno absoluto en el Festival Flamenco Madrid de La Talegona, la memoria está conseguida de pleno.

Introspection, the inquiry into one’s own being or into one’s life, or into the roots and future of flamenco or that of the family is fashionable in flamenco dance shows. There is no dance show that I have not seen this year and part of the past, in which this looking inward is not talked about. María del Carmen Rivas Aranda, bailaora gitana cordobesa, de nombre artístico Carmen La Talegona, porque procede del clan de artistas los Talegones, desde los once años que ingresó en el Conservatorio de Córdoba, para estudiar danza española y arte dramático no ha parado hasta día de hoy que ya va acercándose al medio siglo. Compañía propia, solista en otras compañías de prestigio, giras internacionales, docente, premios, nada falta en la trayectoria de esta artista.

María del Carmen Rivas Aranda, a gypsy dancer from Córdoba, with the stage name Carmen La Talegona, because she comes from the Talegones clan of artists, since she was eleven years old when she entered the Conservatory of Córdoba, to study Spanish dance and dramatic art, she has not stopped to this day of today that is already approaching half a century. Own company, soloist in other prestigious companies, international tours, teacher, awards, nothing is missing in the career of this artist.

La capacidad de recordar está en todo lo que compone el espectáculo y me atrevería a decir que comienza en la dirección artística y coreográfica, diseño de iluminación y vestuario de Ángel Rojas, también director de Flamenco Madrid. Absolutamente magnífico, fundamental para el realismo y la comprensión de lo que va sucediendo en escena.

Está por supuesto plenamente conseguida en el baile de La Talegona, que conecta con sus emociones, con los recuerdos escondidos en algún lugar de la memoria, con cada gesto y cada mirada hacia adentro, con la sed de vida y el ansia de amar, con la esperanza de recordar cada paso, cada verso expresado por medio de su danza. Y finalmente, como ella dice, “recordar que recuerdo”. Todo esto, está magistralmente  expresado en las danzas de su memoria.

Ability to Remember is a show as rooted as it is original, well constructed, exquisitely directed, with the right music, with moving lyrics, with the dance that takes us through time, with the right elements for its existence, where the ever-present memory prevails from beginning to end.
