«Voces del Sáhara» de Fátima Entrenas, El cine como altavoz de la lucha femenina

As part of the commemoration of Women’s Day, the Andalusian Film Library yesterday hosted the screening of «Voices of the Sahara,» a social documentary directed by Fátima Entrenas that focuses on Sahrawi women and their silent struggle throughout 47 years of conflict.

En el marco de la conmemoración del Día de la Mujer, la Filmoteca de Andalucía acogía ayer la proyección de «Voces del Sáhara», un documental social dirigido por Fátima Entrenas que pone en el centro a las mujeres saharauis y su lucha silenciosa a lo largo de 47 años de conflicto.

The session, which began at 6:00 p.m., was followed by a discussion in which the director herself participated, accompanied by the head of the Film Library’s technical team, Ramón Benítez, who introduced the debate. During the exchange with the audience, Entrenas shared details of her experience on the set, revealing the challenge of capturing the voices of women who have been relegated to silence during one of the longest-running humanitarian crises in recent history. The audience was equally moved and interested, asking questions and sharing knowledge about the situation in the Sahara.

La sesión, que comenzó a las 18:00 horas, estuvo seguida de un coloquio en el que participó la propia directora, acompañada por el jefe del gabinete técnico de la Filmoteca, Ramón Benítez, quien introdujo el debate. Durante el intercambio con el público, Entrenas compartió detalles de su experiencia en el rodaje, revelando el desafío de captar las voces de mujeres que han sido relegadas al silencio en una de las crisis humanitarias más prolongadas de la historia reciente. El público se mostró emocionado e interesado a partes iguales, realizando preguntas y compartiendo conocimientos acerca de la situación que se vive en el Sáhara.

The documentary, which was a finalist at the 2023 «La Imagen del Sur» International Festival and awarded the first international BT24 prize at the 3rd Gala-Plantea Foundation Competition, has also been selected for the parallel sessions of the 2024 Malaga Film Festival. Its impact lies in its ability to highlight female resistance in a war context, showcasing women who have not only supported their communities in refugee camps but also played a leading role in the fight for their rights and dignity.

El documental, que ha sido finalista en el Festival Internacional «La Imagen del Sur» 2023 y galardonado con el primer premio internacional BT24 en el III Certamen de la Fundación Gala-Plantea, también ha sido seleccionado para las sesiones paralelas del Festival de Cine de Málaga 2024. Su impacto reside en su capacidad para visibilizar la resistencia femenina en un contexto bélico, mostrando a mujeres que no solo han sido el sostén de sus comunidades en los campamentos de refugiados, sino también protagonistas de la lucha por sus derechos y dignidad.

«This type of format is crucial for them because it allows their reality to be revealed, even if it is only in one part of society, giving visibility to what they experience and how they live it,» Entrenas pointed out.
