Wedding in Amritapuri: Love is stronger than war

Sasha y Olya viven en paz en el ashram Amritapuri.  A su boda oficiada por Amma asistieron más de dos mil invitados internacionales de diversas culturas y religiones, muchos de ellos procedentes de naciones en conflicto.

Sasha and Olya live in peace at the Amritapuri Ashram. Their wedding officiated by Amma was attended by over two thousand international guests from diverse cultures and religions, many of them from nations in conflict.

Sasha y Olya Ostrovik, él ucraniano de Kiev, ella rusa, de Moscú, siempre agradecerán a Amma que los haya unido en el amor el pasado 23 de enero. Lo que parecía más que improbable fue posible en este lugar del sur de India, en el estado de Kerala, cerca de Kollam. Una ceremonia en la que no faltaron oraciones por el fin de la guerra entre sus países.

Sasha and Olya Ostrovik, he a Ukrainian from kyiv, she a Russian from Moscow, will always be grateful to Amma for uniting them in love on January 23. What seemed more than improbable was possible in this place in southern India, in the state of Kerala, near Kollam. A ceremony in which there was no shortage of prayers for the end of the war between their countries.

En una entrevista emocionante, los ya esposos contaron como la guerra entre sus países, lejos de destruir su amor lo ha fortalecido.

In an emotional interview, the now married couple recounted how the war between their countries, far from destroying their love, has strengthened it.

En 2019, Sasha y Olya se conocieron en el ashram Amritapuri como visitantes. Más tarde ese año, surgió su romance, cuando Sasha consiguió trabajo en Moscú. Pero luego ocurrió lo inimaginable: estuvieron separados durante cuatro años, primero a causa de la pandemia Covid, después por el aterrador  conflicto entre sus países.

In 2019, Sasha and Olya met at the Amritapuri ashram as visitors. Later that year, their romance arose, when Sasha got a job in Moscow. But then the unimaginable happened: they were separated for four years, first because of the Covid pandemic, then because of the terrifying conflict between their countries.

Hoy, Amritapuri es su hogar. Ambos dicen que gracias a la intervención espiritual de Amma pudieron reunirse. Porque en Ucrania todos los hombres entre dieciocho y sesenta años deben permanecer allí en servicio militar permanente. 

Today, Amritapuri is their home. They both say that it was only through Amma’s spiritual intervention that they were able to reunite. Because in Ukraine, all men between the ages of eighteen and sixty must remain on permanent military service there.

Casi milagrosamente pudieron escapar de sus países en guerra y viajar de nuevo hasta India. En el ashram, viven en paz entre más de dos mil visitantes y residentes internacionales de diversas culturas, orígenes y credos, muchos de ellos de naciones en conflicto. Dicen que esto es un testimonio de que el amor está por encima de todo.

Almost miraculously, they were able to escape their warring countries and travel back to India. At the ashram, they live in peace among more than two thousand international visitors and residents of diverse cultures, backgrounds and faiths, many of them from nations in conflict. They say that this is a testimony to the fact that love is above all.

En Amritapuri no hay guerras, sino una gran familia de todas las identidades nacionales. Allí los malentendidos y los conflictos se transforman en la gran familia mundial que comparte todo, desde lavar los platos hasta rezar por la armonía universal.

In Amritapuri there are no wars, but one big family of all national identities. There, misunderstandings and conflicts are transformed into the big world family that shares everything, from washing dishes to praying for universal harmony.

Siguiendo la visión de Amma, ambos han dedicado sus vidas a ayudar a quienes sufren. Sasha actualmente es un estudiante de doctorado en investigación en laboratorios a tiempo completo en la Universidad Amrita local. Su investigación se centra en tratamientos de salud mental para personas en Ucrania. Están diseñando modelos en línea para ayudar a aliviar los síntomas de ansiedad, depresión y estrés debidos a la guerra y sus secuelas. 

Following Amma’s vision, they have both dedicated their lives to helping those who are suffering. Sasha is currently a full-time PhD student researching in labs at the local Amrita University. Their research focuses on mental health treatments for people in Ukraine. They are designing online models to help alleviate symptoms of anxiety, depression and stress due to war and its aftermath.

Olya, que desde pequeña gustaba de ayudar a personas en dificultades, ahora desde Amritapuri cursa el segundo año en el Instituto Gestalt de Moscú para convertirse en psicóloga clínica. En Amritapuri, puede continuar sus estudios en línea.

Olya, who since childhood loved to help people in difficulty, is now in her second year at the Moscow Gestalt Institute in Amritapuri to become a clinical psychologist. In Amritapuri, she can continue her studies online.

Esta es una de las muchas historias que en cualquier otro lugar serían improbables, pero en la gran casa de Amma, la maestra espiritual hindú, reconocida mundialmente por su enorme labor humanitaria en India y en otras muchas partes del mundo y por su forma única de dar darshan, abrazando a todo quién se acerca a ella, sin preguntar ni juzgar, es posible. Ella es la Madre espiritual de todos los seres y su amor es incondicional.

This is one of the many stories that would be unlikely anywhere else, but in the great house of Amma, the Hindu spiritual teacher, world-renowned for her enormous humanitarian work in India and in many other parts of the world and for her unique way of giving darshan, embracing everyone who approaches her, without asking or judging, it is possible. She is the spiritual Mother of all beings and her love is unconditional.

Muchos españoles se han convertido en discípulos mediante la renuncia voluntaria a su vida anterior. Son residentes permanentes en el ashram. Hay residentes de todas las procedencias tanto de Europa, como del continente americano, entre ellos los norteamericanos son quizá los más numerosos. De Asia, principalmente de Japón. De Oceanía, sobre todo de Australia. Y también de África, continente donde la mano bienhechora de Amma ha llegado a varios países, entre ellos Kenia, donde ha fundado escuelas, casas, hospitales universitarios, auténticos centros de formación en varias disciplinas, donde los pacientes son atendidos por profesionales nacionales e internacionales.

Many Spaniards have become disciples by voluntarily renouncing their previous life. They are permanent residents at the ashram. There are residents from all origins, both from Europe and the American continent, among them the North Americans are perhaps the most numerous. From Asia, mainly from Japan. From Oceania, especially from Australia. And also from Africa, a continent where Amma’s helping hand has reached several countries, including Kenya, where she has founded schools, homes, university hospitals, authentic training centres in various disciplines, where patients are cared for by national and international professionals.

Aparte de los residentes están los visitantes que permanentemente se cuentan por miles. Y desde hace unos años también residen en el ashram estudiantes universitarios de la Universidad Amrita Amritapuri mientras cursan sus estudios.

Apart from the residents, there are also thousands of visitors who permanently visit the ashram. And for the past few years, students from Amrita University Amritapuri have also been residing at the ashram while pursuing their studies.

La Universidad Amrita tiene sedes además de Amritapuri, en siete campuses en cinco estados. La sede central está en Coimbatore,  (Tamil Nadu), Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh y Haryana . Pero esto es tema para otro capítulo.

Amritapuri es un microcosmos de paz. Sasha y Olya  son un excelente testimonio del poder del amor sobre la guerra.
