William Margetson nació en Londres en 1861. estudió en el Dulwich College y en la Royal Academy of Arts, antes de convertirse en miembro del Royal Institute en 1909. Para 1885 expuso por primera vez en la Royal Academy, y poco tiempo también en la Royal Society of British Artists , el Royal Institute of Oil Painters y la Grosvenor Gallery .
