SEE WITH THE EYES OF THE SOUL

Sin lugar a dudas, el proceso de procrear, gestar y ver evolucionar a un niño, desde las entrañas de su madre, debe ser de los momentos más mágicos, especiales y épicos, que vive una mujer. Y, digo debe porque, nunca lo viví en carne propia, lo más cercano que experimenté fue con mis hermanas en los nacimientos de mis sobrinos. Si yo lo sentí así, no me imagino lo que se genera entre madre e hijo.

Without a doubt, the process of procreating, gestating and seeing a child evolve, from the womb of its mother, must be one of the most magical, special and epic moments that a woman lives. And, I say must because, I never lived it firsthand, the closest thing I experienced was with my sisters at the birth of my nephews. If I felt it that way, I can’t imagine what is generated between mother and son.

Mas allá, de una conexión genética, entre el cordón umbilical, tener el poder de sentir y vibrar con cada latido, palpitación y movimiento de ese ser humano que está en formación, es algo que supera toda maravilla del mundo. En otras palabras, la más grande manifestación del amor de Dios.

Justo en ese momento, es donde se genera mayor sinergia entre madre e hijo; oral, a través de la lactancia; sonora y auditiva por medio del lenguaje del amor y visual por la complicidad de sus miradas. Pero, ¿qué pasa cuando el bebe presenta problemas con alguno de estos sentidos?.

Tal es el caso de Paola Alcázar, una distinguida, conocida, profesional de las comunicaciones de la ciudad de Barranquilla, linda, responsable y madre primeriza de Mateo, hermano de Samuel, quien llegó 8 años después, exactamente el 24 de abril del 2006, al hogar de los Martinez Alcázar. Un niño deseado, amado, esperado; un embarazo dentro de lo normal y de parto natural.

Como bien dice el dicho ”el corazón de madre no se equivoca”, y el de Paola, latía mucho más rápido de lo normal, tenía una sensación de un déjame estar que no la dejaba estar, y que le indicaba que algo no estaba bien con Sammy, como cariñosamente le llaman. Su sentir, fue ratificado el 25 de abril, justo un día después del nacimiento del niño, y luego de un par de exámenes, el parte médico indicó que el pequeño presentaba una discapacidad visual.

His feelings were confirmed on April 25, just one day after the child was born, and after a couple of tests, the medical report indicated that the child had a visual disability.

Estadísticas de las cuales empezó hacer parte Sammy. En una sociedad como la nuestra donde criticar, manejar un discurso ofensivo y ser intolerantes es el pan de cada dia, hablar y leer en porcentajes, cifras, rótulos, etc., resulta más fácil, cómodo y grato, que romper esquemas, pensar y accionar en positivo, resaltando virtudes y creyendo más en oportunidades que debilidades, y en fortalezas más que amenazas.

Para los padres tener un niño con alguna discapacidad, es un gran reto, un desafío que les exige luchar y vencer, el miedo, la culpa y el castigo, que los agobia.

For parents, having a child with a disability is a great challenge, a challenge that requires them to fight and overcome fear, guilt and punishment that overwhelms them.

Cambiar el chip va más allá de una actitud positiva, requiere de un entrenamiento mental, lingüístico y hasta espiritual, son realmente ellos, los responsables de formar y desarrollar niños seguros, independientes, con gran capacidad de adaptarse al cambio y resolver problemas.

Niños “especiales” pero no por su condición sino por el mérito de hacer mucho y a veces más de lo que se espera con poco. Si alguien ha hecho un gran trabajo con esto es Paola, quien lidera el proceso en su familia y quien a través de Sammy, ha aprendido a ver la vida con otros ojos.

Nació con discapacidad visual, nunca ha podido percibir un color con exactitud, bien nos podría decir, que el blanco y el negro no son colores. El primero sería la ausencia y el segundo la negación del color. Sin embargo, al conocerlo te das cuenta que la fuerza y energía que transmite es tan linda y poderosa, que es inevitable no sentir la luz que irradia en la vida de otros.

He was born with a visual disability, he has never been able to perceive a color accurately, he could well tell us that black and white are not colors. The first would be the absence and the second the denial of color. However, when you meet him, you realize that the strength and energy he transmits is so beautiful and powerful that it is inevitable not to feel the light that he radiates in the lives of others.

Dicen que nadie da de lo que no tiene, pero en el caso de Sammy no tener el sentido de la visión desarrollada, le ha permitido conectar con sus otros sentidos desde el alma, logrando despertar la admiración y el respeto de grandes y chicos.

They say that no one gives what they don’t have, but in Sammy’s case, not having a developed sense of vision has allowed him to connect with his other senses from the soul, managing to arouse the admiration and respect of adults and children.

Hablar con él, es una verdadera sinfonía para los oídos, su madurez dista mucho de la edad que tiene, sin embargo y a pesar de la adversidad, ha logrado darle una vuelta a favor a su situación. Por eso, siempre nos encontraremos con un Sammy que no le gusta hablar de problemas si no de oportunidades, el mismo que en vez de preocuparse se ocupa de lo que debe hacer; afirmado además, que el no es un niño diferente, es más, considera que ninguno lo es, lo que existe, según él, son seres humanos únicos, creados por Dios.

Está en contra del Bullying y pide vehementemente ponerse en los zapatos del otro, ser tolerantes, ser empáticos y tener claro que la libertad de uno, termina donde empieza la libertad del otro.

He is against bullying and vehemently asks to put himself in the other’s shoes, to be tolerant, to be empathetic and to be clear that one’s freedom ends where the other’s freedom begins.

Su amor por la filantropía es tanto que hace poco tiempo, exactamente en el 2017 creó junto a su hermano, Mateo, y su madre Paola, la Fundación M+S Inclusión y Comunicación, que tiene como finalidad trabajar en pro de la inclusión, de personas con discapacidad, comunidad LGBT ( Lesbianas, Gays, Bisexuales, Trans ) pero además por mujeres y gente de la tercera edad.

His love for philanthropy is so great that a short time ago, exactly in 2017, he created the M+S Inclusion and Communication Foundation with his brother, Mateo, and his mother Paola, whose purpose is to work for inclusion, people with disabilities, LGBT community (Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals, Trans) but also by women and the elderly.

“Yo me considero un chico afortunado, porque he tenido muchas oportunidades, soy consciente de que no todos la tienen. Por eso, a modo de agradecimiento quiero canalizar y centrar mis esfuerzos en acciones, proyectos y planes que vayan en pro de la inclusión y todos los actores antes mencionados”. “I consider myself a lucky boy, because I have had many opportunities, I am aware that not everyone has it. Hace poco, en Colombia, se hablaba de cifras alarmantes en cuanto al incremento de suicidios en jóvenes y adolescentes. Cifras que se volvieron más escandalosas después de la post pandemia.
